# 1 thing is you want to identify all the expenses. Start with the easiest first, gas, materials, if you need sod, how much sod, or rock, how much and the cost there of. It’s materials + labor, so estimate how long it will take you, usually small-medium size projects are 2-3 days. So if you have a helper or 2, figure out how much that will cost you. Then decide bow much you’d want to pay yourself (for your time, and use of your truck, trailer, picking up material, usage of your equipment if any) for where I’m at, I like to make at least $30 an hour minimum and calculate that in. Once you have that all added up and have paid for the material, labor and your own wage, you can decide if you want to charge an extra 10% to account for “company profit” since you will be charged taxes on that profit some people like to do 20%. But when you’re starting out you got to shoot a little lower to get the job.
