Spider-Man was my mom's favorite hero. Imagine that, a black woman from Louisiana, loving Spider-Man. I doubt she'd love modern Spider-Man. I was always more DC and Batman, in particular. Big-time Spidey fans are seeing what I'm seeing. Your favorite character written terribly, month after month. You may not pay, pick up and read the issues, but every bit of news is bad. Nothing to entice you to pick up the next issue. On the DC side, all the heroes you love, jobbed out, losing Gotham, Metropolis, their powers, their money, Themyscira, beaten down by overhyped fetish objects like Harley Quinn, put in check by their sidekicks, the whole story feeling like a diatribe against the character the writer and editor hate... With Spidey, it feels that way. They writers seem to hate the character. There's a difference between having a character struggle, and just piling on and making them look like a joke. People still love Peter Parker, the character, but just like the Trinity and others, the stories currently being written about them are garbage. Back issues all the way.

For me, the last straw was at the end the Kindred storyline (which I enjoyed until that convoluted ending which accomplished absolutely nothing). After that, they brought back Ben Riley (can't stand him) and that "Beyond Corporation" BS and I've just been buying out of habit ever since. Tired of Peter being a loser/punching bag/cuck. Even his wisecraks have gotten corny AF. The Spider-Man I grew up on has officially become the Marvel version of Charlie Brown.

I should have recognized the pattern and not bought into the hope, because when Sloth & Co. weren’t allowed to do it, Nick Spencer or which ever name may come in the future, will also not be allowed to do it. Not letting Peter & MJ happen seems to be the law at Marvel and I start to acknowledge that. For that reason I also don’t read Ultimate Spider-Man, it will not last at all and I‘m not into sucker punches by Marvel editors.

Such a bizzare, toxic relationship these people cultivate with their few remaining customers. I wish I could say it was confined to comics but this policy of antagonising customers and deliberately doing what they hate seems common across entertainment mediums. These guys are just following the crowd on their social media from which they seek validation. Of course it proves as successful a strategy as anywhere else, in that it isn't and properties completely collapse, even previously seemingly bulletproof IPs, say Star Wars, now Spider Man. The only answer if this is happening is don't feed them. Get yourself out of that toxic relationship, and stop letting them use something you love (Peter Parker) to keep you stuck in frustrated annoyance (and taking money from you while consistently crapping on you and giving you what you hate).

My first comic book so many years ago now was an issue of Web Spider-Man. My grandpa walked me from his clinic around the corner. Got me a scoop of Carvel took me to the drugstore and bought me several comics. I’ve been Hope ever since Spider-Man was always my favorite, but I don’t think I’ve picked up a Spider-Man comic in a good five maybe even 10 years because every time I hear what’s going on with him I’m just embarrassed. The last one I picked up I think was in 2014 2015 but ever since Joe Casada and his mandate to ruin Pete‘s marriage it has been more or less a crap storm of mediocrity and suck for which I will have no forgiveness of the editors and sad sacks at Marvel. I swear it’s like they hate the character or their idea of having any forward movement in his life that makes sense. I mean, the clone saga was dumb replacing Pete with Ben was dumb, but at least you found Ben likable. Maybe the fact that out of all of marvel characters, he was just such a normal guy maybe that’s the reason they hate him? Don’t know just know I don’t buy any of the big two nor have I for a long time and I think it all trails back to what started with Joe Quessada being unable to process his own divorce.

I member that Marvel had a few omnibusses coming out, 1 of which was that horrible Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. 1. It would every girl from the mvc series(except Marrow) which is Rogue, Storm, Phoenix, Psylocke. I would add Black Widow and the Dora Mijale to top it off. Also, I gotta add in my mean girl Emma Frost to rep for that upper class puss. 2. Countdown to arena easy. The clone saga at least has issues and moments of redeemable substance. I’ve stuck with ASM thru Zeb but if they put Colin and Jackson on it I’m canceling my subscription those guys are terrible
