Saw this movie circulating social media so I decided to watch it. The description said based on a true story but it took up until the scene where Monique and ebony was in the house talking that I realized I was already familiar with the story and that I had watched a documentary on the true story months ago ! The documentary scared me so bad .. needless to say I enjoyed the movie. The jump scares were not cheap at all and I loved the natural suspense.

Best horror movie I have seen in years. It is rare now a days to see a horror movie that isn't the same generic nonsense. This one had a great story and you really cared about the characters. If you are a true fan of scary movies don't listen to the garbage reviews on rotten tomatoes. The problem is the people rating these movies aren't true horror movie fans, they want the same generic story over and over. They'll give Halloween 15 a 10/10, but a movie with a real story they'll critique. If you are a true fan of horror you know not to judge a scary movie off of rotten tomatoes or imdb. This was great, a must watch.

This could have been a good movie, but it missed its mark big time. It could have been a thought provoking statement about the horrors of child abuse if the evil spirits were just a metaphor. If the mother eventually realized that there were no demons, and that she was the evil being in the house. It could have been a statement about the issue of single motherhood in the black communities, alcoholism, neglect, abuse. Instead it turned into a silly haunted house movie that gave the mother something to blame other than her own actions.

I agree. I also think it's upsetting that people seem to have forgotten what Mike Tyson did. He's fighting Jake Paul now (laughable) and everyone is like, "Yay, I'm rooting for Mike." He beat women and he's a convicted rapist. I don't care how good he is at boxing, the man is evil. I asked in a chat once why everyone ignores that fact and one guy responded and said, "He did his time." Seriously?! He raped an 18 year old girl and did 3 years. I'm an SA survivor myself and it ruined my whole life. Three years in prison, especially if you're Mike Tyson who probably got his ass kissed the whole time, is NOTHING. My thoughts are with his victims. No one seems to care about them.

This movie was ridiculously awful, but thanks for the review. It had so much potential, but Lee Daniels is notorious for focusing on perpetually inclusive misery and blaqness. This was essentially Monsters Ball, with a random demon in the 3rd act and a special guest appearance from Precious' mom. Almost all of it made no sense and the fact that it had a 30 million dollar+ budget is a shame considering the lackluster effects😂

I guess I'll be in the minority here but I thought the movie was ok it was pretty annoying at the beginning but the 3rd act and ending were fine. I thought the part where she was being bent into a pretzel was the dumbest thing I've ever seen but to each their own. Glenn Close and the oldest son were the best thing about this movie, and I was happy to see M'onique back.

Nope in fact I think its quite bad honestly . The mother saw so much signs of their children being possessed yet she don't seek the pastor help . Why can't she just explained clearly instead of raising her voice ? Sometimes I feel like she deserved to be wrecked by the demon lol. Some signs of the children being possessed is when the children's eyes turn black , teenager strangling dre in the bathroom . Why can't she just seperate from their children already? And when the psychiatrist consult ebony with her mother regarding their children eating shlt , period idk she kept on raising her voice which frustrate me to watch .it is not like conjuring where the pastor explain the situation so the audience is able to understand what the fuk is oging on

Actually i think this horror movie is average . There is so many parts that isnt explained clearly like the part where elbony started attacking the painting in her children room and everyone got scared ? And when she saw the kid eye's turn black ? And then when one of the kid strangle dre in the bathroom why didnt she fucking feel that its a demon already and seek help or seperate from their children ? Conjuring is so much more interesting

So a mom who beats up her son as a means to punish the dad, and gets the daughter whatever she wants. Sounds about right.

Your Mike Tyson "joke" was unnecessary and not funny. Not saying that he didn't do something of that nature to Robin Givens, allegedly, but still...

This movie was good but then by the middle and end I was laughing at some parts as well as the out of place clichés that they slapped in like the editing, wall crawling CGI, cheesy lines, cheesy demon, resurrection, etc. and then when it said it was inspired by true events I bust out laughing all over again. It had a great message but….yeah fumbled a bit in areas. It was a good time though.
