Joseph Guy LaPointe, Jr. was a conscientious objector and became an Army Aidman, or Medic. On June 2, 1969, his patrol encountered heavy fire and Joseph ran forward, through the fire to assist the wounded. He crawled directly in view of an enemy bunker and shielded one soldier with his body while giving assistance to another. He was hit and in spite of his wounds continued to give aid. Joseph was struck again and continued to aid the wounded until an exploding enemy grenade mortally wounded all three men. He was awarded posthumously, The Congressional Medal of Honor. #VietnamStoriesPBS
