That dark purplish/blue spot after pressure treatment is a pressure mark where the plastic optical layers/filters are damaged. I see it all the time in field monitors that are prone to rough treatment and damage. I've also seen dead and hot pixels or pixel groups spontaneously fixing themselves after leaving the monitor alone for a while, only to leave such a pressure mark behind. It's very clear what the cause of the dead/hot pixels was in that case. Groups of dead and hot pixels can be caused by displaced or damaged spacers in the crystal layer of the panel.

I appreciate the lesson around monitors. However none of these suggestions worked out. What did it for me was to play around the refresh date of the monitor. It was set to 60 hertz and by switching from 60 to 75 and back, the dead pixels revived (they were stuck). Hope the suggestion works for you.

I once had dead pixels on my screen too, but it wasn't the monitor. It was the gfx card's memory. I always saw 2 dead pixels next to eachother on my windows desktop, which had a wallpaper image on it. After pressing F5 to reload or refresh it, the dead pixels were suddenly somewhere else on the screen. Also, when playing video games, some triangles were cutting through the entire screen. All "broken" triangles had one corner (vertex) pointing towards the 0-point (world center) of the game world. All due to some memory-locations being damaged. No way to fix that. :P

Stuck pixels are weird. Had a couple of them in the past and was able to fix both of them because they were just stuck. A quick Google search for a pixel exerciser which basically is a little box that flashes different colors quickly to exercise that pixel can be placed over the bad pixel and surprisingly if it is just stuck with a color on it, in my case it was green both times, it does fix it. Neat quick easy do-it-yourself fix. Dead pixels truly suck though. usually a certain number of them have to be dead or you're just forced to use it and rage. EDIT: after watching the full video you reminded me that I once had to massage a dead pixel back to life as well. Yes really weird but it does work. I had a stuck pixel once and I tried with a microfiber cloth very carefully and gently massaging the small area it was located at being careful not to press too hard because you don't want to see a rainbow effect on the LCD and damage your display. Massaging the pixel I can confirm also does work as well. I've done it, it worked. So the tldr version for anyone who has trouble with a stuck pixel of a specific color, try the j-screen fix he recommends, I've had it work in the past. I've also had massaging the pixel work as well. I would try Jscreen fix first to avoid touching the display. As long as the pixel isn't completely dead the good news is knowing the right information as he provided in this video you can take Brian and fixing it yourself because often you might get lucky and you can. Good luck everyone with stuck pixels, we feel your pain.

I had this debate (warrantee for dead pixels) with Sony rep in Sony store when buying my TV over 10 years ago. He said the same thing, below is our debate Sony rep: "the price would be way higher to ensure zero pixel faults", Me: "wow that many are sold with broken pixels?" Sony rep: "no it's very rare don't worry" Me: "how rare?" Sony rep: "I don't know exactly but I've sold hundreds and never seen a TV I sold have a dead pixel." Me: "so let's say 1 in 100 at most?" Sony rep: "oh way less than 1 in 100" Me: "then at 2% to all your TVs, that's double the sale price not you cost to produce price of all the TVs you have to replace at most and you can refurbish or reuse parts so that should if anything make you a profit overall and you get to brag zero pixel garentee on all your TVs" Sony rep: "it doesn't work like that" Yes it does, either the failure rate is way more than 1% and many many consumers are dealing with this or they can easily garentee it cause 2% is just £20 on a £1000 TV, that s so little they could legit swallow that cost and still make money on the TVs ( as proven by sales prices) I don't buy the excuse it needs to cost allot for zero pixel protection the only valid argument for not providing it is the e-waste but given they can reuse the parts and refurbish Vs many customers throwing it out entirely earlier than they would have it if was fine also adds to e-waste so that's even debatable

Be aware that applying pressure can make it worse. In my case it i think it did. It was a subtle red dot before but now it's a more pronounced red square pixel. Really sad but i blame myself for i already had a bad feeling but brainlessy did it anyway. I would suggest only trying the (very light) pressure method if the pixel is already very pronounced and even then it's probably smarter to just accept it and not make it worse. Try the flashing pixels method first, maybe overnight. Didn't work for me though and i figured out that the red subpixel is still working but the blue and green subpixels always stay off, hence why it's red on red but on white and grey (when all subpixel should shine) it's just also just red and on green and blue (when ONLY those should shine) it's black and consequently on it's black on black. I suppose that's at least lucky since if all three of them were dead it would be a pitchblack pixel on white which is more visible. But that also means that i cannot fix it and shouldn't have played around with it. I guess i was either imagening it getting worse or the green and blue lights DID initialy work at least a little bit, making it less pronounced. Should have given it more time to carefully inspect things and figure out my next steps...

@@awesomeferret I did, but I didn't give it much thought at that time. Plus I think I gave a bit more perspective on what to look out for to determine whether it's worth a try or not. That is, if only a subpixel is broken it might be smarter to leave it be as it's not that bad anyways since the other subpixels will still make it blend in in most scenarios. If the whole pixel is broken than light pressure can at least not make that specific pixel any worse so it might be worth it maybe. I think that view is worth more than just an initial vague feeling on whether one should risk or not. Overall it's probably a bad idea in general though. But I wasn't unaware of the possibility, just not sure on what to base my decision on so i went ahead on a whim. Edit: Oh yeah: Smartass 😏

All I did, with my TN/LCD monitor on, was put my finger in a microfiber cloth, apply medium pressure on the affected pixel, then turned the monitor off keeping that pressure on. Then, I turned the monitor back on. Then, I removed the pressure, and my stuck green pixel was gone! ! !

I solved it differently. I have my laptop connected to my 4k TV, using both as a dual monitor. My blinking pixel problem was caused when I changed the setting for the TV in the Intel Graphics Control Panel. The default setting is "Maintain Display Scaling". I had changed it to "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and the blinking began. The problem was solved when I changed it back to "Maintain Display Scaling".

I'm so glad that those pixel fault clauses are effectively BS, at least in the USA.. Every time I've ever had a dead pixel out of the box (the latest was my first LG V40... Yes, I'm overqualified for quality control... That's over 500 ppi 😂) I've been able to return the device for a refund and get a new unit. Never do a warranty claim if you are still in the return period (therefore, always do dead pixel tests when you first get the device). Don't let manufacturers get away with selling defective hardware to you.

This video is so informational. Really appreciate man! Gonna try to fix my laptop display having a TN panel. The display turns on but the brightness is just too low, for all of the pixels on the screen. I can see the content on screen when I put a flash light directly on the screen. What do you think could solve this? Thanks!

I've brought home quite a few monitors and TVs from the trash (bulk trash, twice a year the city will haul away almost anything you put on the curb), and of the ones that worked, almost none of them have any dead or stuck pixels. The dell monitor I'm using right now used to have a dead pixel, but it seems to have gone away. The other day I grabbed a 40" Toshiba TV that works great, but has one green pixel that is stuck on. I tried lightly rubbing it with my finger, but that didn't do anything. I'll try that website and see if that helps. One thing I've noticed is that the majority of monitors work just fine, as long as the screens aren't physically damaged. On the other hand, TVs are a crapshoot. Smaller TVs (20-30") often work, while larger TVs (40-60") often don't work at all, or have something wrong with them. I found a 60" Vizio with half the backlights burned out. A 50" Samsung with no sound and a purple tint to the picture. A 50" 4K Samsung that started glitching after about three hours. I've found three 40" Samsung TVs that work fine. One has a glass screen and a glass stand, so it weighs a ton. One has such a thick bezel around the screen that it looks like it should be a 50" TV. And one is pretty lightweight, but has no stand.

omg i just bought this samsung g7 32" 240 hz monitor and 2 days after setting it up it had what i thought was a dead pixel. I followed your massage advice and the pixel moved. which indicated this was not a dead pixel. I carried on doing it the pixel kept moving locations. about after 10 times of it moving it completely disappeared. Thank you so much this has saved me so much time of going through warranty.

Well I have a solution (that worked for me) for those having IPS panels with the dead pixels. I had 6 dead pixels (black ones) on my IPS screen, I tapped each one of them with my nail and they all turned on and started working. Sadly this didn't work for stuck pixels and hot pixels. Hope this helps you.

Gently (barely any pressure) massaging with a stylist pen worked. Thank you! If the stylist pen doesn't work at first, you might need JScreenFix on the spot to stimulate it first? At least that's what fixed my IPS panel. If it still doesn't work don't give up just yet. This is the exact process that fixed mine: 1. JSF on the spot for 10 min then off the spot to see if that worked. It did not. 2. JSF back on the spot for 10-20 more min while watching this video. 3. Gently! (can't emphasise this enough, barely applied any pressue) massaged the spot with a stylist pen for around 5 seconds after 10-20 min passed (around 20-30 min total) with JSF on the spot. 4. Removed JSF to see if that worked. It looked noticeably smaller. 5. Without JSF, immediately after massaging with minimal pressure the stuck pixel disapeared as if it were a dust particle. Thanks again!

I guess this also explains how ghost image remain on these types of screens after some years of use. It would have been nice if you could have included a bit of technical knowledge about why this phenomena occurs and how this technology could evolve in the near future. Thanks for the lesson none the less :-)
