📜 History of Rome & The Third Century Crisis - A messy and petty assassination plot kills Aurelian after 5 years of ruling. Would Rome be doomed to start the crisis a new? At first, it seemed like it. Emperors rose and fell and were assassinated, died in accidents, etc. Definitely not by the elite commander Diocletian though. Even if Diocletian benefited greatly from the crisis. Like becoming the new Emperor of Rome. Now the civil war and conga line of assassinations and political plotting might make it sound like Diocletian is just another horse on the merry go round of absolute chaos Rome had become. But this new Emperor had BIG ideas.

Yeah, a simple ruler would have totally have effect 200 years later :p If Diocletian crashed the Empire instead of restoring it, I could see why Aurelian would have had an impact. But given that Diocletian did pretty much as well or better than Aurelian could have, I don't really see how Roman Empire would have last longer ^^' Except of course, if one of the emperors of the last day of the Empire were as good as a Diocletian or an Aurelian ;)

Excellent video but i feel like Probus should have got a bigger mention than just ‘another guy who ruled six years’ He was a highly competent soldier emperor who continued the military reforms that Aurelian had started, worked extensively to revitalise the empires food supply and economy and campaigned successfully against barbarians across the Rhine Danube so well that they wouldn’t invade the empire in any significant way until the reign of constantius ii

They were basically sects. You had to pay to get in there and all practices were to be secrets. If you told an outsider about anything that happened during the secret meetings, you would lose your life. And if you follow all the rules you were promised a better afterlife with the heroes/gods.
