This was one of the first concerts I ever attended, less than a month after turning 16. I can't believe it was filmed and surfaced on youtube some 20 years later! It took me another year to realize just how good their first album was, but to this day I still rank it as one of the best rock albums ever, and certainly in my top 5 favorites. So cool to find this on the last day of 2020, which has been an incredibly nostalgic year for me, where I've constantly been reconnecting with all the musical memories of my life to get through the hardship.

I don't really care what the politics are but Stephan made a huge career mistake dismissing Kevin. I worked in the record industry for many many years and I'm convinced this band would have had much greater success had that original lineup remained intact. Stephan had one of the ingredients and Kevin had the other with the other guys filling in the gaps for sure. Without Kevin in particular, this band will never be as great as it could have been.

Jenkins is obviously a good songwriter and lyricist, but dear god is Kevin Cadogan an absolute genius. When he was ousted, the heart of this band was ripped out. Jenkins has had some good moments since then, but nothing close to what both he and Cadogan created. It's a big what if to what this band could have achieved after the genius that is 'Blue'. Also, a nod to Arion as well as the combination of him and Cadogan is simply electric.

Yes! Finally someone says what I’ve thought all these years. Cadogan had the magic, he was the soul that drove the emotions of those songs. Without him the songs have felt like knockoffs with different guitarists. His sounds were were a voice of their own and you couldn’t just replicate that voice by following sheet music. I remember my first concert going to see 3EB and immediately thinking « whole fucking shit they’re hard ». The album couldn’t capture that punk vibe where they played these songs fucking hard. Without Kevin they went soft, like the album.

@@billybutcher4995is definitely wrong, my friend. Tony can really solo and shred. I assume that his really out of place tunings made that magic. You can't solo in that kind of weird open tunings. It would make those songs very unbearable. Example: Can't Get Away is in F# B E A C# F#, you can't bend or do vibratos in that tuning. Misfits is in D# G C F G A#, it's not a very tonal tuning if you ask. Try to solo on that tuning and you'll have a mess trying to write a solo on that kind of tunings You can only make chords on it. I'm not even talking about Company, it even surprises me how the hell he did that ending with a tuning that low.

Noel doesn’t have the frontman prowess or voice that Liam has (or at least had in his prime), and Liam can’t write songs anywhere near the level that Noel can. SJ may be a gifted songwriter, but that’s clearly not enough given that he stopped writing hits after Blue was released. The magic that this band had completely evaporated after Kevin was fired. Literally a night and day difference. Jenkins really fucked up being such a selfish prick. Had this band stayed with the original lineup, they would have achieved way more fame (not that they weren’t already quite popular). But man, they just had so much chemistry, and Jenkins and his greed/ego had to go and ruin it. Is he a good songwriter? Of course, but Cadogan’s guitar work really brought his songs to life. This is evident when you look at how quickly the band declined once the 90’s ended. Good songs only go so far when you don’t have the proper instrumentation to carry them.

Yup, Kevin and Salazar, the bass player. Stephen said he kicked out Salazar because he was crazy, but that's no reason to kick someone out of a band. Jesus!!

Kevin F’ing Cadogan!!! Yin fired his yang without realizing how essential he was. I attended a 3EB concert last night and admittedly it was insanely good but it’s because Kevin’s riffs and ability to create space and time with a mother f’ing guitar.

These guys have as much talent as the Chili Peppers with Frusciante. Maybe more. It’s a shame they couldn’t stay stay together for more than one album.

Summer time and the wind is blowing outside In lower Chelsea and I don't know What I'm doing in this city The sun is always in my eyes It crashes through the windows And I'm sleeping on the couch When I came to visit you That's when I knew I could never have you I knew that before you did Still I'm the one who's stupid And there's this burning Like there's always been I've never been so alone And I've never been so alive Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by The cigarette ash flies in your eyes And you don't mind, you smile And say the world it doesn't fit with you I don't believe you, you're so serene Careening through the universe Your axis on a tilt, you're guiltless and free I hope you take a piece of me with you And there's things I would like to do That you don't believe in I would like to build something But you never see it happen And there's this burning Like there's always been I've never been so alone And I've, I've never been so alive And there's this burning There was this burning Where's the soul I want to know New York City is evil The surface is everything but I could never do that Someone would see through that And this is our last time We'll be friends again I'll get over you, you'll wonder who I am And there's this burning Just like there's always been I've never been so alone, alone And I, and I've, I've never been so alive, so alive I go home to the coast It starts to rain I paddle out on the water alone Taste the salt and taste the pain I'm not thinking of you again Summer dies and swells rise The sun goes down in my eyes See this rolling wave Darkly coming to take me home And I've never been so alone And I've never been so alive

Stephen Jenkins envy of 3EB is so apparent and sad at the same time. If Jenkins was truly humble and collaborative with Cadogan instead of being jealous of his lead guitarist's proven talent, our imagination can only dream of the possibilities. Jenkins had/has talent too as a songwriter and singer, that much was obvious. But he wanted it all.
