We are just using our library mostly! We will see what the kids gravitate towards and maybe find some unit studies for that as we go.

My kiddo is starting 2nd grade this year. We are sticking with our morning basket hymn, bible reading, artis, and classic book. We are moving on from My Father's World to Gather Round and Five in a Row, which should be less time and more all around learning or subjects, as we will also be doing more student directed learning. I am trying to simplify with children that a 7,4, and 8 months, not keep getting more, but its so hard when there are so many amazing curriculums out there. I saw an adorable one on The Hundred Acre Woods yesterday!

This was such a helpful video! We have some similar things planned, it’s nice to know someone else is reading Sassafras’s Adventures without the additional parts. I love how you follow your daughter’s interests, I find myself at times getting caught up in curriculums, but they never go over well, and I have to remind myself to just follow my kid’s lead.

My daughter is going into 4th grade. We use Gather ‘Round and a coordinating Brave Writer Book and dart/quiver of arrows guide. Then I pull in resources that coordinate with the unit study theme. I get most of my ideas from you! We have enjoyed your Traveling the Parks this summer. Looking forward to Traveling the World! For math, we use Good and Beautiful, Touch Math, Mathtacular, Bedtime Math, Mathematical Reasoning, and a variety of games. Math is her weak subject so we use a variety.

Thank you for sharing your plans for this school year. I ordered the What Your Second Grader Needs to Know and the one for Fifth grade for my two kids. Your videos are so helpful and my son loved your Who Was George Washington unit study. We used it as part of his first grade social studies curriculum. I also ordered The Tuttle Twins series so I'm definitely interested in how that goes for you and Emily. I haven't figured out how to fit them into our schedule...I may start out just as family read alouds and see if they get interested enough to dive deeper. I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos!

We're starting our first year homeschooling PreK/kindergarten too! After agonizing for literally months I chose to get the rightstart curriculum for my daughter, as it had the most amount of positive reviews for setting a strong foundation in math skills, as well as being very scripted for those of us parents/caretakers who have never been strong in math. But I only expert to get through A-C and then move on to possibly Singapore. And because of Jessica's videos I also grabbed Life of Fred Apples to read as part of our morning basket. At least that's the plan for now! I'd love to hear what you're doing! ☺

I love that you are letting her take the path on subjects. When I was in elementary school we had are regular English math subjects but then a unit study, you don't realize how much you are actually learning. I'm horrible at spelling but was already learning about doing research and interesting things with real math science and math directly mixed in. This helped in middle school because are English and social studies do a joint project every semester where we had to research things and write a full 5 paragraph essay. Then in 8th grade English worked with science, we had a science fair, but it wasn't just doing an experiment, it was learning how to write up the experiment in the proper way with then sitting sources. High school continued like that but I went to an ultra orthodox all girls high school do I had dual education my entire school life. But they tied things together where we ended up producing a unit study all written up and sorced the correct way with the reasrch coming from the Torah and other things but put together in the presentation mode. Science and math worked close together sometimes and with history and literature it was always on the same topic like Greek literature and Greek history. I was very fortunate and in 12th grade they brought in community College teachers and we took actual college courses that counted for both. When I got to college first I got to skip most of the intro classes which worked much better than a.p. credits. But people had some much trouble figuring out how to research, how to write papers and even how to present topics. Do i use my college degree no, but learning with everything put together is how the real world works. Yes you need the core things but you also have to nurture intrests because the kids don't realize how much they are actually learning. I wish I could home school but I'm a single foster mom who works full-time at home and had an in house babysitter before the virus so I could work. I did buy a ton of the books and games you mentioned to supplement but I never know when they are going to leave my home, reunification is the best, though one of the kids is looking more like an adoption case. Outschool has saved my life and depending on what school is for this coming year it might be 2 days a week in school and the other online I have been looking into hiring someone to supplement their education.it will keep them busy letting me work but also letting them learn. Even if I adopted i doubt I would go the home school way just because of the nature of my job. We do tons of read a louds and crafting things. I'm loving the kiwi company subscription boxes. You are setting her up for a great future
