I so agree with you about the difference in the carp of the American midwest and thoes of England. I don't see many drop-back bites. Another big difference, our carp hit like a runaway truck. I've nearly lost rods until i started using solid rod holders. Thanks for another good episode.

When your rods are clean and reels are serviced and new line has been put on . And winter is knocking on the door. Make sure your watching outside with tom to keep those carp fishing juices flowing!

Good video Tom, We can fish with two rods here ( pay extra for the second rod ) and sometimes just like your day one rod catches all the fish, go figure. Don't think this old man could fish on all those rocks. Thanks

Enjoyed the story again Tom! Like the post below, keeps me pumped up for warmer carp weather. Still fishing here, but not for carp. We do get 28F mornings, luckily no ice up though. Santa did bring me a new bait runner style reel, can't wait to hear it scream with a 20#+ carp. This will be my second season fishing carp; first season was a blast. I have learned a lot watching Outside w/ Tom!!!!!

I gave up watching English with their wheelbarrow full of fishing equipment you fish like me I’m from Sydney Australia you Tom just keep on fishing like you are doing I really love your videos you got basic ideas and new ones for me I haven’t finished the last four years due to looking after my parents my father past away two years ago but I’m still looking after my mum and still no fishing but I found your videos and in joying just like I’m with you fishing for carp thank you ❤

Nice way to pass the time today. What reels are you using.? I really like the small ones like you are catching on my fly rod. I am wanting to break 25lb on my fly rod and going for a high 30 or more on bait gear this year here in Idaho

Tom, what water temperature do you start fishing after winter? Is there a specific month you like to start your carp search. I am in southern Ohio so the weather is similar.

S Ohio has a much warmer winter than we do here. It's 36 here right now, and 57 in Cincinnati. Lakes here are usually ice covered until end of March. I like to see at least 45-50 deg water before I bother targeting carp.

Don’t worry Tom I fell in the water up to my waist I threw the rod back and I went in while I was climbing out my friend reeled my fish for me and it was 9 degrees it was cold 😬😬😬😬

Commercial carp fisheries in UK are mostly man made , containing bred carp for the purpose of living in a pond to be caught by anglers who spend hundreds of pounds on tackle and bullshit to catch them.. Wild Fish are the best buddy . Brilliant video . Enjoyed it.

I was in the UK this fall and stopped at 2 carp tackle shops and talked to the owners. We have it very lucky here, those bred fish are incredibly wary and tackle shy. When I described what fishing for carp is like here, they could not believe how lucky we are.

Love the content! Very enjoyable to watch. Question for you: I'm looking at buying an entry level baitfeeder style reel for carp method feeder fishing. I'm stuck between the KastKing Sharky 3 BF, and the Daiwa Emcast BR. I see you use both in your gear section. Do you have a favorite? The KK is $35-$40 cheaper, which sounds nice, but im wondering if it is as quality and reliable as the entry level Daiwa. Appreciate any feedback you can provide.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but my opinion is the KK is the better bang for the buck. You can use that extra $40 to buy some feeders, bait, net, or even an Ugly Stik rod to go with it for a complete setup. Glad you enjoy the videos, thanks. Carp love the spicy. It has a chemical trigger. Garlic is also another chemical trigger. Garlic is an allium related to many water plants. Carp eat the bulbs of those plants. I'm British and have done a lot of carp fishing. my largest was a 35lb "wild" fish. I dont usually fish stocked waters as the stocking keeps the size of the fish down. I like larger Rivers and unstocked naturalised and largely unfished quarries. Most British carp anglers don't know much about fishing tbh. Definintely try garlic is my advice things can get silly fast if you have fish in the area. Also I always recommend fermenting your maize until it gets that clear sugary slime on it. Also use ruby maize if you can get it. It has a much higher sugar content and in winter it can be great. Carp fishing in the UK is not hard unless you make it hard by your choice of water. Great to see you have your own style. Love it.

The missed run looked like a liner. When I have my rod tips at a medium height I tend to get one or two liners every couple of sessions, especially with line that is fished tight and not sunken.

Do you keep your drag set loose for the whole fight? I’m using the same hooks as you.

@@brittlanders351 I adjust the drag as needed during the fight. If your hooks are bending, then your drag is too tight. It takes some practice to get it right.

Typically, English lake's are more what we here in America would call a large pond. They typically don't have multi thousand acre lakes over there. Hence as you observed. The many fishermen there who fish for carp do so by throwing out quite a bit of chum to attract the carp to the area where they baited hook is. Then most carp fishermen there do it only for the sport of it with no intention of eating what they catch. So almost all of the mature carp in these small English lakes have all been caught and netted several times over. So they are much more skiddish than our carp are here in the United States.

That's the claim I've seen, that English commercial carp are "smarter" than wild carp. I'm just not so sure that a fish; a primitive creature with a brain the size of a pea, is capable of such learned behavior.
