The annoying thing with this fight is that they aren't hard, its just that the tongue attack has a ridiculous hitbox. Like you can double jump and dash straight right or left and it will still snag you

Umm no, if you are at double jump height when it comes out, it won't hit you. The issue is that it has a lingering hitbox so if you land on the tongue it will grab you.

It’s the completely bs hitbox combined with the horrible delay and tracking so insane it basically requires a frame perfect dodge if you aren’t above it, all on a move that’s a guaranteed 1 shot with max health. They combined just about everything that makes an attack bad and made him absolutely spam it which completely ruins any chance of the boss being fun

I think the biggest problem is underestimating the dual saber throw with the Dexterity perk. 100% the Biggest ally in Double Rancor and Double Frog fight on GM difficulty

Yeah the saber throw with dexterity and the perk that regenerates force is what got me through the dual rancor fight relatively quickly on GM. I’ve been relying more on the blaster for the frogs and still haven’t beat them because of the damn tongue attack but maybe I’ll try it with the saber throw more

The purity perk that you get from new journey + really helps significantly in boss battles like this. They die within like 3-4 hits and most of the hard to dodge attacks one shot you without the perk anyway.

Devs split their aggression between them, so the fight won't be so horrible, but in exact second one of them died, second one now have all the aggression and attack twice more often Same thing was in Rancor fight, how Zanny didn't noticed it there i dunno

When theres two of them they attacks slower each, when it’s just one it’s like the actual spawn of oggdo fight in the fort. However triggering later phase movesets for the two of them earlier can be very dangerous for you. If you keep one of them above 3/4 health they will never use the tounge, and if you keep him above 1/3 he wont use the big jump slam. These attacks can super easily combo you to death if they happen to do it at the same time. It’s much easier to kill one and then basically just repeat the normal spawn fight for the second

Semi fun fact: if you have your health to the absolute maximum the game will allow you to have, and make sure to have full health(or just about full health) when hit with the attack, then the tongue attack isnt actually an insta kill, its an almost insta kill. So go out there and get those force upgrades

I actually fought them before I opened the forest array. So I fought them with kettle upgrades none of the story abilities and no other stances. Plus I cheesed the single fight with the two hammer guys up on the ledge so I wasn’t familiar with the move set. It took me 5-6 hours to beat and crashed 3 times

The most annoying part of the fight is having to dodge Bogdo’s unblockable, and getting immediately hit with Spawn’s tongue, which can’t be dodged because you’re already in the midst of dodging the first attack. Then if you get hit by one unblockable, and the other frog does one too, you’re almost guaranteed to die.

Idk if its just me but the fight seems a lot easier than he makes it seem. Just parry the triple bite and gun-stagger the umblockables. Dodge the dash and jump and punish if needed. This is such a simple moveset.

The hitbox wasn't the only inspiritation from Dark Souls 2. Rather than being different to every other Soulslike in actually emulating why O and S (and also SF and FA) worked as a gank fight (they were different to eachother and could be micromanaged in the fight), they took the DS2 route of "throw the same boss into 1 arena twice" But even in those fights, the bosses never overlapped an inescapable gank combo in a situation where the player was being smart. Unless you were letting them surround or corner you, you could pretty much always get away. So they took the worst gank fight design philosophy of the Dark Souls series, and made it even worse. The worst part is that one on one these bosses are easy. Hell, Respawn already had the right Idea with gank fights in Fallen Order. The Bounty Hunter duos were generally good. Both enemies present were different, and while their aggression wasn't reigned in, that didn't matter because the differences in fighting style meant they were rarely ever both on your @ss 24/7 It would be fitting if Survivor's combat was an all-round downgrade over Fallen Order, with the stance mechanic being the only improvement. But Survivor mostly improved on FO's combat.
