Oh Fortuna: • Carl Orff - O Fortuna ...
Read this please:
Senni - the final journey, the first climax I described is bursting open the gates of heaven after death. Muthu Natramam - the poet asking women beating dough and singing random songs to alleviate their stress to sing on the Lord. So you hear syncopations on the rhythm which resemble beating rice, chaff and dough. Pooerukonum - poet asking bees to sing on the Lord. The violins resemble the movement of bees to the poetry and music. Polla Vinayen - at the insignificance of human beings in front of God head, in various moods and tracing the evolution of life (pullaagi poovaai till munivaraai devaraai is from grass to the Gods. And you see the tune rise from the lowest registers to the highest). Umbarkatarase - poet telling God that he has caught hold of God's feet now it is for God to relieve him from the mortal pains. A song seeking salvation and praising God. Putril vaazh aravum - poet saying he is not afraid of anything including death but is afraid of the various vices

Thank you Lidia and Varshan. As maestro Ilayaraja says music has the capacity to heal the violent behavior in humans. I could acknowledge the same as I am hearing more and more of Ilayaraja, Ali Fakra and western classic etc. I would request you to continue your learnings of Ilayaraja and spread them. Music is bigger than anyone. Ilayaraja is one of those rare musicians ever known to humanity. Let more and more people are aware of his genius and enjoy him more. Let's hope sir Ilayaraja's music would heal animalistic behavior in us and lead us to a peaceful world. Thank you again Lidia.

Thiruvasakam in Symphony is an oratorio composed and orchestrated by Ilaiyaraaja. Thiruvasagam is a collection of ancient Tamil poems written by great saint Manikkavasakar. They were transcribed partially in English by American lyricist Stephen Schwartz and the composition of raja's musical notes are fully conducted Laszlo Kovcs. This is said to be the first Indian oratorio ever. It was performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. Good Explanation! A Real Crossover - East meets West...

Great breakdown. Like to hear you play the themes more and see you enjoy. The chant is envisioned more like a vedic chant to God. Similar to a Hindu Yagna setting. This is the first song so he is setting up the entire oratario theme. The song is singing praise of the Lord Shiva and expressing longing to unite him and when he will unite him leaving this realm behind. Continue you fantastic work 🙏

Thank you for doing this! Exceptional work, Lydia! 6:45 - 6:50 (adaivom naam poi sivapurathuL...) "Let's all go to 'his' abode before the (temple) door closes !(to surrender at his feet)" , is what he implies. In the lines leading to this verse, Manikkavasagar appeals to us, who are lost in our material pursuits, having no time for spirituality, to get all our kith and kin to visit his abode and seek Shiva's blessings, as the time we have is finite... I might not have translated it word for word, but the intent of the song is what's stated above.

In our state tamilnadu, there is a traditional singing pattern for Thiruvasagam which are sung at Lord Shiva's temple. A group of persons called Odhuvaar are deputed to sing Thiruvasagam at temples. Odhuvaars are mostly traditionally trained persons to sing song on Lord Shiva which is called as Saiva thirumurai which includes Thiruvasagam also. There way of singing is uncomparable and melt our mind also touch our soul. I think those who listened Odhuvar's singing won't compromised with IR"s Thiruvasagam, because they'd (even myself) feel that IR's Thiruvasagam is failing to give divine experience.

Hello Lydia.. got to hear about your analysis videos from a friend of mine. I have been watching your videos, in particular about Raja sir's works. Thanks will just be a word. But unfortunately, I do not have any other word to express my gratitude. I had been waiting for a long time to understand what an Oratoria means and, you have nailed it with a simple and understandable explanation. Your rendition in the piano was totally unexpected. Never had I expected that someone would play this masterpiece in piano. Please analyse the song Polla Vinayen from the same album which runs close to 19 minutes and my personal favorite. In India, unfortunately, Film music is dominant and Works like this (Non-Film Music) go unnoticed or rather appreciated only by Ardent fans of Raja Sir. Keep up the good work and analyse more of Raja sir's compositions. Thanks once again.

I resonate what Senthil Vinu mentioned..i feel so nice on how you have helped to dissect that this composition follows oratoria method of the western classical music ..very nicely dissected and interpreted to us......middle eastern music .....chants yaa .sounds like that..the chanting or hymms. .....so lovely that you played the parallel motion. Yes probably something was in his mind..maybbe that's why he is a great creator..theme b reminds theme a and it keeps developing .so lovely for yoh to play and show us the harmonic melody..lovely explanation of the central modulation..aahaa..mesmerising

Great work Lidia. I came to know only recently. 07:10 The part that shows the emotional intensity - Manickavasagar has been absorbed in by God and enters the land/home of God at this moment. BTW, Thiruvasagam can never be properly translated into English (no offence) as traditional-Tamil is more emotionally expressive and rich. Explaining a single word would require multiple paragraphs.. Also, mortality is a happy ending (or beginning) in Thiruvasagam (Thiruvasagar) as he could finally go and live with the God.

Here is high level summary of next song "Polla Vinayen" This is a pure devotional praise hymn. civapurANam or Siva Puranam means “About Shiva or Nature of Shiva”. The original text has the following narrative from a point of view narrator: Hymn on Praise of the Lord Hymn on my debts to Shiva Hymn on my unworthiness in this universe and how i was born and reborn again as grass, worm, fruit, animal, demon and even as heavenly being but yet I did not get my salvation. Hymn on how i found my salvation after realizing the truth which is to surrender to the feet of Shiva This is followed by multiple hymns on the Nature of Shiva who is capable of providing such salvation to unworthy souls. But in Ilaiyaraja’s version, it has a slight rearrangement of the narrative. Pretty interesting rearrangement of narrative if you ask me. Hymn on my unworthiness in this universe and how I was born and reborn again as grass, worm, fruit, animal, demon and even as heavenly being but yet I did not get my salvation. Hymn on how i found my salvation after realizing the truth which is to surrender to the feet of Shiva This is followed by multiple hymns on the Nature of Shiva who is capable of providing such salvation to unworthy souls. Hymn on Praise of the Lord Hymn on my debts to Shiva
