Gosh it would take me at least 2-3 days eating all that. It's really good with a big cup of tea, but you can easily kill the good experience with too much mayonnaise or spam.

For anyone unfamiliar with the swedish smörgåstårta: It is a national classic. Served at different occasions all over the country. It is a personal favourite and let me tell you, those things are COMPACT. It is not your average cake in any way. These things has the mass of a black hole. I LOOOOOOOOVE smörgåstårta. And you did this challenge in my home town, that's cool :)

I recommend tuna, salmon and shrimp version! There's also ham based version but it's not as good. We eat it at celebrations, usualy the fishy one for the adults since childrens doesn't tend to like it as much. So we made a ham based one for the younger crowd but it's not nearly as good.

After reading some comments i feel sorry for ya'll who thinks it's just pure mayo, it's not. It's mayo mixed with either chopped shrimp or tuna, cream cheese and creme fraiche with some spices/herbs. Which is then thinly layered into the cake. Which is the most common variant, shrimp, tuna and salmon toppings. There's also a ham based one that uses liver pate instead which is less tasty imo, and more boring. But it's something the kids will eat if they don't like fish. We eat this yearly on celebrations wether it be birthdays, funerals or midsommar. Of course we also have regular cakes, but most adults prefer smörgåstårta 9/10 times.

@@tetepeb Mayo is used because of the taste only. Only using whip cream would make it tasteless and bland I use 80% mayo and then 20% whipped cream to get it a bit thicker. Using more whipped cream than that would destroy the taste.

I usually mix 50/50 mayo and gräddfil (sour cream?) Or mayo/creme fraiche. Gräddfil really subdues the clogginess of mayo.

First of Randy your pronunciation of smörgåstårta was spot on for a english speaker i would say. Smörgåstårta is a klassik and there are tons of variations on fillings and decoration both seafood, fish and meat options, im sure there are vegan options aswell but we dont speak of those;) Really impresive, i could probobly eat 1/4-1/3 of that simply cause i love it, i know i would feel sick afterwards but it would be worth it:)

In Denmark we have the same dish, called "fiskelagkage" :-) It's a bit of a broad definition, since you can use pretty much anything fish and crustacean that is edible. Combine that with caviar, sour cream, aspargus, cucumber, tomato, dild, eggs, coarse salat and a soft white bread. Then size it up (or down) as you please. Always a nice dish 🙂
