I’ve had this issue for about a year and a half and finally decided to do it after seeing this video and mine was missing a third of it! Waiting on the part now and hopefully I won’t be seeing those lights anymore!

I replaced the drivers side rear wheel bearing on my 2017 GT and after the repair I noticed an intermittent metallic clicking noise from the same wheel when leaving from a stop. After researching the issue I felt certain it was the thrust washer. Bought a new thrust washer and axle nut from the Ford dealer and installed which fixed the clicking noise. Like you I had to remove the vertical link to get to two of the bolts. This is a very doable repair for a DIY'er. A word of advice - if you ever have to replace a rear wheel bearing be sure and buy a new thrust washer and axle nut, too!

Absolutely! Next time I do another wheel bearing on this car, I’ll definitely just buy another trust washer too

Had the exact same noise. A mechanic replaced the wheel bearing which didn't fix it and just had the trust washer replaced and car drives like new. Also on rear left side.

Hi, what size is the hub nut wrench? How tight do you tighten the hub nut?
@survivetothrive2129 күн бұрын
It’s a 32 mm socket with 90 ft lbs plus an additional 45 degree turn.

Did you also have service advanced trac and abs light?
@survivetothrive214 ай бұрын
No but I could see how it could potentially cause those lights. If

Did you lose abs, traction control, hill assist? Trouble shooting mine having this issue. Changed speed sensors, front hubs, all control arms, links & rods… still can’t get them back. Did notice a “creaking” from the rear, thought it was just spring movement but sounds just like the noise you had. This could be the fix!
@survivetothrive21Ай бұрын
I didn’t lose ABS or anything. Just had that clunk from the rear end. But it COULD potentially create those issues.
@thegreeknrican1906Ай бұрын
This was EXACTLY IT! After spending $200 to be quoted $4k… Based on the diagnostic I replaced both front hubs and sensors, all front control arms, tie rods & links myself. Still had ABS & Hill assist going off! Figured Id try changing the rear hubs and saw your video. Ordered the 2 washers and hubs… did the job today… no more problems!! Thanks for the video and reply! Saved thousands!

I just had this problem, it was the speed sensor tone ring, mine was corroded. I also had this issue. Changed both and the car drives like new.

The reason the new lug was a 21 and the others were 22 is because the lugs have an outer aluminum shell that over time will swell up.

Good video. I've come across this issue a lot on the S550 facebook group. Did you just start with the drivers side thinking it was it? Did you change the passenger side? I wonder if just using a metal ring the same diameter would work also. Thanks for the vid.
@survivetothrive216 ай бұрын
I haven’t done the passenger side yet but I figured it was the drivers bc I had someone inside going back and forth while I stood directly beside it. They say you can just completely eliminate that thrust washer
@RidinONChrome6 ай бұрын
@@survivetothrive21 Oh really. You can take them out and have no problems? Interesting.

After watching last couple of videos looks like this is becoming another "look at all my toys" trucking channel. That being said,I did chose to watch though
@survivetothrive217 ай бұрын
I can understand why you’d say that. But I simply like talking about my interests that I’ve acquired through my hard work. Cars are my hobbies. This channel is MOSTLY trucking, but the reason I didn’t put anything referencing trucking was so I could do things like this video. And this video was intended to help anyone who may have the same issue but can’t find the clunk before they spend a fortune on unneeded parts. But I do appreciate you watching it and stay safe!
