“Cars, for me, were not a part of my life before, living in Scotland-I didn’t even own a car,” says Owen Miller. “I came down to South America looking, basically, for work as a geologist. When I moved here, I bought a ’65 Mustang, and it sort of, all sort of went from there…”
Working as a geologist in South America for the last 22 years now, Miller quickly gained an appreciation for what sort of classic cars he really enjoys-big American ‘boats’. After owning a number of different cars, a friend said to him, “You need a Cadillac,” to which he replied, “Well, yeah, of course…who doesn’t?”
“When I park that car, I turn around and have a good long stare at it,” says Miller, who’s definitely not tired of his 1973 Cadillac Eldorado. “It brightens other people’s days, that’s the main thing about it.”
But first, finding a Cadillac in Peru? Good luck-“There’s no Cadillacs here, I imported it.” As huge ’70s luxury liners are very much a rarity in Peru, the car still stops traffic, onlookers stare, and people are in appreciation for the old American convertible.
With a pledge to keep it for as long as possible, it’s clear the car has made a lasting impression and Miller will be motoring with it for years to come. If you see a white Eldorado convertible in Peru, be sure to wave as the pair glides by.

We all enjoy the Porsche's, Ferrari's and other supercars. But honestly, I keep coming back to this channel, for stories such as the 1973 Series III Landrover, and this story. Come on. A Scot, living in Lima, Peru ... driving a 1973 Eldorado Cadillac. How does the "human story" get any more interesting? More than anything else, it actually had me missing my time of living abroad ...

I love classic Cadillacs too. Modern are also very exotic here in Europe as they are pretty rare. I work near US embassy and they have couple of them in car fleet. There are some SUVs but for me DTS limo is special occasion whenever passes by. It so classy in black trim.

I thought we were supposed to think that anything American, especially their cars, were tasteless and tacky and we had to buy a Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover, Bentley, Rolls-Royce etc. to be tasteful, even though they are more expensive to buy maintain and store properly. I guess not everyone who is not American is that way.

This man has some serious testicular fortitude to drive a car that large in Peru. Spent a week there and a couple of days in Lima. Absolutely crazy drivers, like 6 wide on a 3 lane highway. But kudos to him, definitely a standout ride down there.

I had the same experience as a teenager having grown up with one these Caddys as a family car - I got pulled over by a HP at about 1am on the interstate - the patrolman said he followed me for about 5 minutes (with his headlights off) and I was averaging about 110 plus before he pulled me over. I was 15 years old and if it were not for the saving (and forgiving) grace of my mother I would have been jailed and the car impounded. He did comment that I was a very good driver!

GOOD FOR YOU! My First Car at age 17 was a 1973 Fleetwood in 1977 my dads uncle was buying the new downsized Caddy and I was thrilled to buy his like NEW FLORIDA FLEETWOOD for $1700 to me that was a STEAL even though that was $6600 in todays money he had just came back to the North East for the summer invited us up to a pool party and I saw the sign and my heart popped out of my chest. I screamed the car is sold. I didn't care how I was getting the money. I had half of it working full time got a loan for the rest with help from dad. I was KING and even my Granddad was jealous of me driving that car at age 17. But $70 a week in gas at age 17 was a bit much. I kept it 2 years. No issues.

Front wheel drive means better in the snow and rain. These cars aren't meant for speed, but for a lot of comfort and also some practicality. The worst part is that it has absolutely, positively, awful fuel efficiency.

Anonymou s I live in NE Ohio and front drive cars don't always do that great in the snow. That understeer can be a real problem. Some do great. Some are capital D dangerous. I have an AWD, little thing, winter car. A Suzuki. Drives like a snowcat in the worst conditions.

My mother had a 1973 Eldorado hardtop, butter cream colored, fully optioned and let me tell you, SHE LOVED THAT CAR! I did too, having taken my drivers license in it {you could parallel park it with one finger}. It was enormous, fast, quiet, luxurious and literally floated down the road and had the rare 8 track Quadrophonic tape deck stereo in it. I miss my mom and the great road trips we used to take in that Caddy, my mom driving like a bat out of hell and "Band on The Run" blaring from the speakers - every time I see one of these cars I smile and think of Clara - love you Mom

Absolutely awesome and brings back memories. My dad in the late 90's bought a 78 Eldorado with the 500 in it, but it was a hard top. It had 20,000ish miles on the clock and was just an amazing cruising car. I remember on two separate occasions being pulled over while riding in it with my dad just so the officer could look at the car, it was basically a time capsule the car was so pristine. Thanks for the great video and bringing back those memories. I love this channel!

Couldn't been a '78. The last year for the 500 was '76 unless someone had done a motor swap.
@kstaats13
@kstaats13 7 жыл бұрын
Cirus61 No swap was done, the car was all original and low mileage. Even the tires were factory original. Either I'm mistaken on the year of my dad's Eldorado, or he was mistaken on it having the 500. I'll have to double check with him when I talk to him. I didn't know the 500 ended in 76, I figured it went on till the end of the large body style of the Eldorado. Now I'm curious as to if my father was mistaken or I was on the year!

In my mind, the Cadillacs from the 70's and early 80's are the spiritual center of the Cadillac brand. These are Cadillacs! Granted, I was born in the mid 70's and my dad had a used mid to late 70's Cadillac when I was growing up but still, the Cadillacs from this era are a great reminder that there was a time that Cadillac didn't chase the Germans. They just wanted a Cadillac to be a Cadillac and they were proud enough of their niche to be okay with that. I am and have always been okay with that, too. Cadillac of today could learn a thing or two from this car and the company culture that built it.

I could not agree with you more. Cadillacs today are good, but I would like them to be more American and less wanna-be German. And they need one big luxo-cruiser convertible in the line like this Eldo.
