I did one for the first time a few months back for someone else. It belonged to the guys wife who passed from cancer a few years ago. It was a great feeling when he said thank you for bringing back some great memories for me and bringing it back to life for our family to enjoy again. This one is in great hands and will turn out great. Looking forward to the videos of it.

Man, that is super special. Very cool of you and that is a whole-nother level of awesomeness. And thank you for the vote of confidence on this build sir!

I know this machine will look amazing when you finish it, judging by the care you take with your own. Excited to see the progress. I started mine last spring, only waiting on getting my engine back from the engine shop. Haven't rode mine in well over a decade. Can't wait to start riding again. Hard decisions to be made on how much money you want to throw at them. Anyway, excited to see the progress. Looking forward to the future videos.

Thank you sir! I really appreciate that. I think we may have a cool solution lined up! Stay tuned!

Sandblasting that frame will be a magic trick on how to make an atc frame dissappear. Looks like he needs this half of a 350x frame I have.

That thing is ROACHED out man. I hope the owner didn't bite off more than he can chew and I hope you've got a plan B. This is why I hate working on other people's stuff. That frame is gonna be a mess after it's sandblasted.

That frame has had it in my opinion. I'm all for welding stuff together and God knows I've brought back some rusty stuff that most people wouldn't, but I wouldn't try to do anything with it myself. As far as keeping the title and numbers, I know how I'd go about that myself.

I have a DG swingarm on my 83 200x had broken skid plate mounts .I used some 1/4 inch thick 1 inch wide band steel to repair it.I welded the band steel in place drilled and taped the it bolted the skid plate on.

I too have stopped taking on resto projects for other people. Over the years I've done more than 25 frame off restos and I just can't do it anymore. It's so much work and makes such a mess and I just don't have it in me to do any more restos.
@ThisOldTrikeКүн бұрын
Your work is top notch sir! It's exhausting and ends up taking precedence over your other projects. So I understand completely. This is a bit of an experiment... I'm sure I'll be all set when this is over.

I really need to go through mine, the top end has some small leaks and never has been apart except valve adjustments not looking forward to getting it apart. I will be fallowing close on this build.

Thanks brother! One thing I'm thankful I don't have to do is get into this motor. He said it was a good runner, so I'm just going to clean it up and it stays as-is.

I'll use this as a guide where to get parts for mine. He could have gave that a proper washing with s 100 cleaner before taking it to you. Would have made the tear down a little easier and enjoyable. That thing was pretty dirty.
@ThisOldTrikeКүн бұрын
I hope it guides you well! And I'll give the guy a pass on this one. Temps have dropped and I know he kept it at his camp... It wasn't filthy filthy, but wasn't very clean... that's for sure!
@Robert-uh6bxКүн бұрын
Definitely needs another frame. That thing is rusting from the inside out and not worth sand blasting. I would have cracked them axle nuts loose before taking the bike apart. I find it easier with the weight of the bike to hold things. Either way it’s almost unbelievable you didn’t break a bolt. Will be following this build series along 💪🏻
@ThisOldTrikeКүн бұрын
Yeah, I agree, I don't like this frame at all... but, I am happy to report that I did crack all the nuts loose before pulling the swingarm off! Thanks for following along!

Hi Preston, You remind me of myself when it comes to doing side jobs like this. I repair Lincoln pipeline welders on the side, and I have to ask the customer just how far do you want me to go so I'll know when to stop, because I can go down a rabbit hole really quick when things look questionable just so they are not wasting my time or there's or the money. On this project that you have, and I'm no expert like you guys are in this area, but I do have some experience doing repairs , and like you said ,the customer has a title for the frame which is nice, but the writing on the wall says get another frame. I think it's possible that the tubing on the frame could be wrapped with reinforcement tubing and tig welded, but that's a lot of work, and the wall thickness is questionable. It's a shame to see all the rot. I know I'm just rambling but I couldn't help it LOL! I just got thru Tig welding new Gussets on my '86 350X frame and painting it , now I'm going to the next stage of rebuilding the engine. I'm glad to see the videos that you make that cover the 350X, It keeps me in check if I'm missing something or if there is something I could improve on in the process of my overhaul. Looking forward seeing where this 350X your working on goes👍
@ThisOldTrikeКүн бұрын
Thanks for the comment brother! I think we have a solution for the frame now actually! It's still up in the air a little bit, but I think we may be on to something! But you're right, these restos can be slippery slopes down into deep deep rabbit holes... I'm glad you're enjoying the build and I hope I do you proud.

Interesting video. It's to bad someone doesn't make aluminum replacement frames for three wheelers. Anyway wouldn't it be friggin awesome if Trump does away with the consumer product safety commission and we could somehow get Trump to bring back three wheelers say by petition or something but only allow Honda to make them since they invented them and made the best ones. Let's see what DOGE cuts. You can count me in for support and it would be cool as hell if you were to take the lead in such an effort. This is just an idea, but a dam good one I think. Love your passion for these vehicles. I have the same affliction. ✌️
