Karl is clearly a gearhead & a great guy. Very open & transparent & your comment hit the nail on the head!!! Ford is a well managed company, but EV's are the future, simply because engines made to run on a closed loop "HHO gases" combustion (that uses a glass of water for fuel) will never be allowed to be sold. We live in a truth suppressed, propaganda fueled, mind controlled 24/7 onslaught of media manipulation. A large glass of water will drive you from the Coasts of CA to the Coasts of Maine. Over 120 EV's are coming to market in 2020 vs. about 20 EV's in 2019 if ya count all models including The Unicorns - Limited Production ZEV Compliant EV's like The Chevy Bolt. 2020 is the real beginning of the EV REVOLUTION. EV ROBOTAXI'S ARE TECHNICALLY FULLY POSSIBLE FROM A PRACTICAL POINT OF VIEW... But government regulators will slow down the approval times, so nobody knows how the well paid lobbyist will buy the blocking of regulatory approval. Could be a few years up to 10+ years, but it is inevitable.

I am from Europe and we enjloy to get the Mustang at Ford dealers regularly since 2015. And we buy it. 'Unfortunately' our German neigbours buy more the 80% of Mustangs with the V8. Why unfortunately? The EU commission plans to punish companies, who sell to many cars with low mpg numbers and higher CO2 output. There are rumours, that Ford might rather cease the sale of the Mustang instead of paying a fine to the European Union. For me the V8 rumble - although music in my ears - is not everything the Mustang offers. It looks cool, even the standard 2,3l Ecoboost is maybe the strongest 4cyl on the road, it curves better than the V8 (no wonder, 198 lbs less on the front axle) and offers way better mpg. Of course 460 hp on the race track for the V8 are an argument. But how many people circle on a race track? And with the active exhaust you can create quite some noise. I ordered my standard 2,3l with it. More bass than the German 4cyl competition. Good sound! Enough for us over here! About the V6: I had the chance on a US visit to get the last v6 at a Thrifty location. Oh a V6, rather in Europe for affordabler cars. That means cheaper than 70000 USD over here.And such a gr8 flat torque. At the next location they gave me 'only' the 2,3 ecoboost. I admit, I put the automatic several time into S.Mode to activate the sound generator. But in any mode: It felt more agile than the V6. I loved it. I travelled through curvy terrain! Up to this point I did not dream to buy a Mustang. I did not want to support the government with the taxation you pay annually for a 460 hp card. But I finally decided for the Ecoboost with the active exhaust. I hope I will get it within this decade ;-) It IS a fun car. Just do not think V8 ;-) BTW: The V8 convertible in the standard trim for Europe costs 68450 EUR in my country. YOu may do the maths for the USD conversion. My estimate: 75000 USD. Woow, I seem to have too much time. Greetings from across the 'Big Pond'!

I gotta say this is a pretty impressive move on the 4 cylinder mustang. I bet it rips now that it holds power better at redline. They need to stop messing around and go aluminum body on the mustang and work down that curb weight overall. I'd like to see a modern mustang get back down to like 3200-3300 Lbs in heaviest form.
@thomask00435 жыл бұрын
That will be a challenge for the convertible. Even Audi's A5, or the BMW 400 series are quite heavy. In Europe the 430i convertible weighs 3990 lbs. I use this example, because is is the strongest 4cyl in the 400 line. Only two litres and 450 hp (in Europe). The Mustang Ecoboost is even slightly lighter: 3966 lbs. Still a heavy boy. Maybe the curb weight for the Coupe offers more 'slimming' potential.

I think that it's smart of Ford to optimize the performance of the Mustang with the smaller engine, as most Mustangs made are with the turbocharged four. At around 3700 lbs with a 54/46 weight distribution, I wouldn't consider the Ecoboost with the performance package a lightweight sports car for the purposes of handling. But if the claimed mid-4 second zero to 60 time is accurate, then this uprated Ecoboost would be almost as quick as the V8, which weighs around 200 lbs more. The question of how to optimally option-out a $40k Mustang seems to have gotten more interesting.

This is a response to the 1LE package Camaro, which GM has been doing for a few years now, and the cars have been remarkably good performers. It's a great time for American sports cars, for sure. These turbo 4 cars are a blast to drive. I love my 2.0T camaro but I'd love one of these as well. I will say that the Camaro manual transmission (tr-3160) in the turbo 4 is worlds better than the MT82 in the Mustang. Also, my 2.0T Camaro is 3280 pounds, I'm betting this 2.3 mustang high performance pack is a 3600lb car. That's a big difference and I would expect performance to be fairly on par between the two, considering the power to weight ratio, with the Camaro being a better handler all around, and the Mustang being the better straight line car in the top of the RPM range. I'd like to see a comparison between the GM 1LE cars, both 4 and 6 cylinder, and this mustang, on a road course.

I'm not saying the mustang is a bad car, just that the 6th gen camaros tend to do really well on track, much better than their stats would imply. Whereas with the Mustangs, I always feel like they look great on paper but put them on a track and it doesn't feel right. More of a street roadster than a track car. Different cars for different folks, its all good.
@devinbender84285 жыл бұрын
Brian Lear the v6 1le vs BASE GT was only a 1 sec difference not the GT with performance package. And the 2.0 Camaro suuuucks. No balls at all the v6 isn’t bad and will give the Ecoboost a run for its money but I think the torque of the Ecoboost will pull it ahead.

It's impressive the performance ford is extracting from this 2.3L turbo. But I'm not really sure what the differences are between the Focus RS engine and the Mustang engine. I'm really thinking this boils down to the tune. I could easily see tuners taking some lessons from ford on this new tune and applying it to the "regular" ecoboost.

@devinbender84285 жыл бұрын
Steve Pounder definitely not. Math 101 bigger gap between piston head and valve head means lower compression. Focus rs was 12:1 so I’m guessing 11.5
@maximumvelocity65425 жыл бұрын
@@devinbender8428 you and Steve Pounder both understand what it is you guys are trying to say but it looks like Steve just miss understood which one of the "machining" the engineer was referring to. The engineer said machining without specifying where on the head the machining took place. At that juncture I surmise that Steve filled in the blank with one out of the 2 major zones. He may be thinking of machining/milling the head mating surface, which does elevate compression. You on the other hand, have deduced that since he said machining lowers CR, he must be talking about enlargening the combustion chamber volume which does reduce CR.
@Dialysisforever5 жыл бұрын
@@maximumvelocity6542 I thought the same as Steve Pounder. Normally a higher compression would be the case when you machine the head but when he said they lowered the compression, I thought" he's just a Ford rep and doesn't really know what he is saying.".
@Dialysisforever5 жыл бұрын
@@devinbender8428 Where did the Ford rep say they were making the gap bigger? It's also 101 that when you machine a head (the mating surface) makes the gap smaller so compression goes up. I think the Ford rep needs to clarify his statement.
@maximumvelocity65425 жыл бұрын
@@DialysisforeverI concur as machining a cylinder head can mean alot of things...Porting and reshaping the intake & exhaust runners, removing "quench" areas from around the valves, as well as milling down the mating surface. The engineer definitely left some gaps in info during his dialogue. As a result, this is likely going to continue to throw people off as the most common machining that comes to mind for most is the latter.

I am guessing this is a way Ford is using to get a few more years out of the current design of the Mustang. Plus I'll bet the hypo 4-banger will cost more than today's GT, at least in base trim.
@devinbender84285 жыл бұрын
Rock RE it’s on the Ecoboost Premium trim. So you have to compare it to today’s GT Premium. (47,000 for the auto) The current mustang came out in 2015 and updated in 2018. Typical life span for the mustang is 10 years 94-04 05-15 15-25?
@MotownRockinroller5 жыл бұрын
I think Mustang buyers will continue to opt for a V8 over the new 4 cyl if the dollars difference between the two is digestable.
@devinbender84285 жыл бұрын
Rock RE If you get a GT with a magnetic ride and carbon brakes you will be paying over $50,000. I don’t see the eco-boost costing too much over 40. Personally I would take the eco-boost just because it’s lighter And there is so much after market for it.
@MotownRockinroller5 жыл бұрын
V8s--especially in the Mustang--have long been preferred over the rest of their engines. Also, there is no question that a V8 engine exudes a tone that can never be equaled by a 4 or 6 cyl. That said, my point is that Ford will find a way to price the premium 4-banger high enough to make Mustang buyers seriously consider a lesser equipped V8 instead.
@Sayua-chan5 жыл бұрын
Here's the problem. The 4-banger is the one most of us should get (ez to drive, economical, etc). But sales figures show the V8 is still the most popular. It's because of the stigma the Mustang has. If you get it as anything else than a V8 you have to explain yourself to the normies, and who wants to do that? Thanks to Hollywood the Mustang is now considered a muscle car, while the "pony car" bit got erased from history.
