My 2 week old Venza Limited. Average 43 mpg, with 50 mpg tops. People, myself included, get better mileage as they learn to maximize driving in the eco zone. Excellent acceleration onto freeway ramps. Very unexpected. Mine, made in Japan in March 2021. Arrived on the dealer lot and purchased immediately, in May. The only Venza in stock.

Dealer was $ 1200 off MSRP. An additional $ 1500 rebate. They also gave me a better cash/trade offer on my 2017 Fusion Platinum than the Ford dealer offered. That shocked me. The Ford dealer could have sold my low mileage Fusion as certified. I live in SW Ohio. Around here, they are discounting Tellurides.,

I bought my 2021 Venza Limited back in February, and it has exceeded my expectations. I was expecting gas mileage in the high 30s, but it averages 45-52 mpg for combined city and highway driving. It's the most comfortable vehicle I've owned, plus all of the Lexus insulation and double-paned windshield make for a very quiet ride. It also handles bumps very well, and handles great. It's a transformation over the 2015 Venza XLE I traded in on it.

I agree with your opinion about the comfort of the Venza. I had a 1500 mile, recent roadtrip to VA and found myself supercomfortable all the time in the car.. maybe because of the seat.. not sure, also found the handling at 80mph highway speed is also insanely composed. Very happy with the vehicle indeed.

Hi Kyle, great info as always. I agree with the milage, I have a 2021 Rav4 that is averaging 40-41 mpg. The milage has gradually increased as the engine breaks in. Bought it brand new and has roughly 3900 miles. The Venza and Rav4 are built on the same platform with identical drive trains. I test drove both and found the Venza to be claustrophobic compared to the Rav4. The Venza is more on the luxury side too. I have continue to be impressed with the Rav4. I had to turn off the state line announcement. I live in Kansas and work in Missouri. I could not listen to that twice a day.

Likewise. We are averaging (factoring in electricity costs) around 46mpg. That includes a couple of 800+ mile trips where the gas economy dropped to around 38.5 mpg (I typically aim to cruise at around 80mpg on completely open freeway). Of course the big saving is in local driving where I'm running pure electric - most of my daily commute and shopping/gym etc can be done in pure electric mode.

I didn’t go for the limited because didn’t need a sunroof that doesn’t open, and the birds eye camera seems distracting from the actual rear view camera. The sensors help avoid bumping into people and things. The ride is very smooth. This is my 3rd Toyota lease. Previously I had a 2017 and 2019 RAV4s. So far, the Venza is a better ride

I’ve had this car for two weeks and it is a great car. Super comfortable to drive and great tech on the Limited with the 12.3 screen. There are comments on the Toyota Nation site about a fuel tank issue where it does not top off correctly. The RAV4 had or has a similar issue. Supposedly corrected for vehicles made after Nov. 2020. I’ve yet to fill up (yes- incredible mpg) but I highly recommend if you want an efficient at that will eat the miles. Looking forward to your full review!

Yes the Venza tank capacity is 14.5 gallons. Many owners report even if they run to single digit DTE they can only fill to 11.5 gallons. There is always some reserve amount and you never want to run too close to true empty but this is an undocumented defect just as the Rav 4 was. It took Toyota a year to admit and fix on the Rav4 and they have not acknowledge it on the Venza. Otherwise it looks like a great car.

I was seriously considering the Venza Limited loaded up. It is not that much more then a RAV4 Limited Hybrid. However, the lack of Dials/Knobs on the Radio and HVAC systems was a deal breaker. I truly love the rubbery dials/knobs on my RAV4. Much easier to adjust my temperature and tune my Sat-Radio then the 'Touch Buttons'. I had a Venza as a loaner last week for two days. The incorporation of the Tilt, Mirrors, and the Memory Seat is really a nice touch on the Venza.

I considered the Venza. It is closer to a Lexus in many ways. In the end, I chose the Rav-4 hybrid. For some reason, it felt better for my needs and I guess preferred the more truck-like looks. They both are extremely great vehicles. Toyota reliability, especially in this hybrid drive train is tough to beat and the build quality was excellent on both vehicles. By the way in this current 2021 market, the value of used ones is making buying a new one a wise choice.

45 mpg is phenomenal. I would suggest using a pump that has been recently calibrated and filling the last portion, or at least the last of the tank at the slowest fill rate that can be locked on the handle. The only other thing you could do is refill in the exact same method at the slowest rate at the same exact pump using your 30 second top off that you’ve always used. Great job.👌🏼
@DaveDuzzit
@DaveDuzzit 3 жыл бұрын
The pump relies on evap to shut off, typically if you fill when it's already very full it will shut off earlier than it would if you were empty because there is already an abundance of vapors built up in the tank. So you didn't get as full as your first fill up by a tiny amount.
@InternetDude
@InternetDude 3 жыл бұрын
When I fill up when nearing the top I ease up to the slowest pump setting and when it clicks off it’s done. You might want to try that method for better accuracy. You’re never supposed to top off like you are doing.

Since everyone seems to be charging close to list in my area, it made sense to buy a brand that never has huge discounts. Get the good trade in, buy a car that’s never heavily discounted. For example. Four months ago, Ford was advertising $ 6000 cash back on the low priced EcoSport. Now they are full priced. Buying those wouldn’t make sense.

The sunroof uses PDLC, Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal. It's a thin film of plastic with a semi-liquid layer embedded in it and is laminated between the layers of glass. When electricity is applied to the film, it causes the crystals to become perpendicular to the conductive surfaces, making the glass appear clear. When there is no power, the crystals scatter and the surface becomes opaque. Power usage is about 4 watts per square foot, and must be applied continuously. So if you are really concerned about power usage, leave the panel opaque.

Have you run the same vehicle under the same conditions repeatedly to establish the normal standard deviation for this test? I think it is quite large. Variability of fueling or refueling could be 0.05 to 0.1 g per refill. Variability of measuring milage could be 1 or 2 miles in 57.2 miles. 3 - 5 % effiect, combined with a variable crosswind, tail or headwind, and 2 - 4 % distance measurement variation in an independent RMS way, would give a 3- 5 % variability to your method. Which is about + - 1.5 - 2 mpg for different tests of the same vehicle.

Mainly fwy driving and about 100 miles (est.) of town running. The Venza was very comfortable, quiet etc. I cannot be sure what mode (Eco or not) it was on. Since am a very good manual transmission car driver and get the best possible MPG, am very easy on the gas pedal as I wanted to get the best MPG number possible on my real-world driving test. Drove a total of 2048 miles and used a total of 57.04gal to give me a MPG of 35.9. So, I was not greatly impressed. But I still like the vehicle. Of course I do understand there are many variables. My speed was always below 80 mph.

Thr mpg is high only when there is a lot of breaking, as that's how the batteries get vharged through regenerative breaking. Without it, the car needs to depend exclusively on the engine, so on long trips, hybrid cars are essentially like a regular gas car.

Pretty impressive numbers for a decent sized car. Not really surprising in some ways because I believe it's the same basic powertrain that's in the Camry Hybrid and I believe that car is rated for 50 MPG highway and city which is astounding quite frankly Prius territory in a much larger car. So considering the fact that the venza is taller not surprising it cost a little bit on the efficiency. I'd be interested to see you do a Camry Hybrid test also.
@kens97sto171
@kens97sto171 3 жыл бұрын
@Frugal Family Living I doubt that.. stop and go traffic the Hybrid has a massive advantage. Open highway at steady state speeds the weight does not matter much, unless your climbing mountains. But it's possible under certain conditions. Gearing could be different between the two models... I get 35-38mpg in my 08 Prius running at 85-90mph. At 55 I get close to 60mpg. Stop and go city driving and hard.. driving I don't baby foot it. I get 45-47.. better if it's cooler, but not cold.
@kens97sto171
@kens97sto171 3 жыл бұрын
@Frugal Family Living I generally don't trust car and driver for technical information. It isnt fast they don't like it. The clue is in their comment comparing the three different powertrains. The V6 the base 4 cylinder and the hybrid. In reality the hybrid is much closer in performance to the V6. 0 to 60 is in the low sevens. They probably don't like the way the E-CVT feels nobody that's performance oriented will. But the reality is it actually provides better performance in most circumstances. It's also far more reliable than the multi-speed automatic that would be available in the other two engine choices. Also much easier to maintain, Toyota's hybrid Transmissions are simply a dump and refill on the fluid every 50,000 miles. The standard multi-speed automatic have to be taken to the dealer to have the proper amount of fluid extracted and put back in since there's not even a dipstick anymore. It's one of the things I love about my 13-year-old Prius is that the maintenance is easy to do yourself with basic tools not that there is much maintenance. Mine's got 368,000 mi on it. Still gives me 45 to 47 miles per gallon average. I tend to average about 35 to 38 miles per gallon running at 85 miles per hour steady state highway speed. If I keep the speed lower that number goes up but it's Texas so we haul ass. Best number I ever saw was driving around in Seattle stop and go traffic over the course of 3 days I averaged 53 miles per gallon. Again not bad for a 13-year-old powertrain with that kind of miles on it. That would be the primary reason I would pick the hybrid over the other two choices. The V6 Toyota's are a royal pain in the ass to do maintenance on. You cannot get to the back three cylinders without removing the intake manifold so if eventually you end up with some kind of cylinder misfire you end up having to pull the intake manifold do plugs and coils and injectors. Or do each of those one of the time and completely reassemble it and see if the problem went away. No thanks. I would by the hybrid followed by the base 4 cylinder engine. One other advantage is on the base Le trim hybrid you get standard smart key access to the car and push button start and automatic climate control which you cannot get in the bass trim in the other two powertrain choices.

@@WAN2TREE4 Unlikely but possibly if it's a new Camry. The new 4cly engines are are very efficient..but still rated 28city 39 hwy. I own a Venza limited without the Stargaze moonroof. My experience after 4K miles is not as reported here. I’d say the car has noticeable wind noise on highway and noticeable road noise in town. Mileage by odometer and gas pump measurements is about 37.5 mpg in suburban driving. No complaints at all about Toyota CVT, which is very smooth and responsive. Switch between gas and electric motors is undetectable. Likewise switch between mechanical and regenerative braking. Comfortable, responsive, handles well. Toyota Nav is awful, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is very so-so.

Highway MPG is significant if you drive mostly highway. Most people drive a mix of urban/ rural/ highway. A longer test driving a mix of URH where 3/4 of a tank is burned would be much closer to what I refer to as REAL MPG. Repeated several times and averaged together increases accuracy.

@@InternetDude I hypermiled in a 1973 Datsun pick up in California, l didn't even know what hypermiling was. I was low on gas and it was down hill all the way I put the truck in neutral and turned the truck off. I was coasting about 65 mph at least that was the reading on the speedometer. Probably more like 60 mph. About 5 to 10 miles at the bottom of the hill was gas. So I went 10 miles without one drop of gasoline. You cannot do this with the new cars. I'm not sure how the Venza can do over 45 MPG on highway. Hybrid vehicles give you better gas mileage in city driving than in highway driving because the engine is not gonna shut off on highway unless you have a Rav4 Prime or Prius Prime. I have a 2018 Rav4 hybrid and I can barely get 30 MPG.

There is a big jump in mileage in the Rav4 Hybrid from 2018 to 2019 and above. We are averaging around 42 mpg with our 2020 Rav4 Hybrid. The 2019 Rav4 Hybrid and on-up actually are entirely different cars from the prior years. The Mileage actually seems a bit better on the highway than around town. But, it is all good.
