I run a 5lb ABC powder in all of my vehicles. I live in eastern MT and we have substantial wildfires here every year so our fire risk is quite high. I also carry a flat shovel through the summer and fall. I’ve put a few fires out with it with great success. I have learned being a firefighter that having things in a quick accessible spot helps in an emergency situation. I have all of my fire extinguishers mounted in an easily accessible spot I.e. in my 05 1500 Silverado I made a drop down bracket that is on the drivers side behind the back seat in the corner above the top of the seat. In my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee I have it mounted to my back hatch on the inside so I can just grab as fast as I can. I’m really glad you shared this video because there is so many people that overlook it, but if everyone had one the amount of vehicle fires would be dropped significantly. Keep up the Grade A videos. Your videos with chomper rekindled my love for my cateye and I’ve started to do some mods to mine, but just offroad specific like bumpers, full spool, sliders, lights, skid plates, winches, bed tuck, etc.

@@chrisguillen1495 well hey there neighbor! You sure live in a beautiful place if you’re in SW MT. Thanks for your support! Things haven’t been bad here yet as for fires, but all it takes is a few more 90 plus degree days and a little wind until we are in fire season. We are currently looking at 7-10 days out until we hit a red flag warning if we don’t get anymore precipitation. We have plenty of fuel for a fire, but if we get lucky with some precipitation we will be alright. I’m out in the hills all the time with my Jeep and Silverado so I’ve went as far as losing my cats to mitigate any risk of a fire source. I have routed my exhaust on my Jeep as high as I can and have shields over it as well to keep any grasses or brush away from it. I’m an avid archery hunter and that time of the year we have the biggest fire risk generally. I also carry 10 gallons of water, a handheld sprayer, and a shovel during the fall.

I work for a fire protection company been in the business for 10yrs, that abc powder is HIGHLY CORROSIVE, you should look into a 4.75lb halon or a 4.75lb clean guard those 2 agents are specifically for electrical fires also a 5lb co2 would be another decent options as there is no mess or cleanup whatsoever, saving all your important engine components. Another great option but in a dry chemical powder form 5lb purple k and 5lb BC agents are for your flammable liquids and electrical fires. We’ve run tests with all of these agents against car fires and abc took the longest. Hope this helps. Always go with a 5lb extinguisher if you can that little 2.5lb extinguisher isn’t enough.

I did the same thing and bought an extinguisher for my cat eye, I put mine in between the driver seat and console. It is not mounted as it just sits there but it doesn’t move, is out of the way, and in quick easy access.

Look into getting the LBZ and Chomper appraised, if you turn a professional appraisal to your insurance, they will insure the vehicle to the appraised value. My K1500 books at like $1,800 yet I’ve turned down 10k for it.

I don’t know how your insurance company is but get full coverage having just liability isn’t really saving you money most times full coverage for at least me is only a couple dollars more a month now if you have a classic like my 93 obs I fully restored go with hagerty insurance and set your value of the vehicle

Freak accident, naw it’s a very KNOWN common issue it’s the same as BMW X5 and others as well, it’s literally issues from the factory all boils down to BAD wires, regardless of someone does custom wires or not it’s way to many SUVs cars and trucks catching on fire

ive got the same issue with insurance. ive got a first gen double cab tundra w 60k miles on it. theyre going for 20ish but insurance doesnt value it even close to that. so i just put liability on it, definitely makes me feel uneasy. Ive got an 03 350z with 70k on it and those are also going for way more than insurance values them at but Ive got specialty insurance on it.
