I use a Jackery battery for day sailing on my small sailboats to power a few electronics, charge a phone, etc. For my needs, I find it to be a much better option than a lead acid battery. They’re very convenient and reliable and they’re great to take camping on land too. Thanks for another great video!

Oh, that is so tempting. I'm exactly the target market: new to sailing, looking for a first boat with the trinity in good shape (motor, standing rigging, and sails). If it was on the Chesapeake I'd be driving to the marina right now to check her out. I suspect a solo trip from Maine to Maryland in the Fall is probably foolhardy for a very first boat trip. 😆

Very nice. Was expecting an Atomic 4 for the price, so the Diesel is a plus. It's true, that modern 26's have about the same room; but it will likely sail better and I suspect with a lot less weather helm and smoother pointing (and the price is good).

Don't know nuttin about the move references but I can tell you that "Magic Carpet Ride" was done but John Kay and Steppenwolf from Detroit. As for the boat the only issue for me is the lack of a refrigerator but that can be fixed with some solar a few batteries an the cooling unit. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
@boatfoolsАй бұрын
I might be late to the game, but I just learned about Engel Coolers… Look like a less expensive alternative to adding refrigeration. Check them out.
@jott1883Ай бұрын
It does look like a well maintained boat. Mostly Farris Bueller's Day Off, with a mix of Forest Gump intertwined although with all that hair it looked a little like a Cousin It reference from the Adams Family. Finally Peewee Herman's Big Top and ET.

It’s possible the composting head has an electric exhaust fan, so maybe that’s what the battery pack is running (it was located next to the head). Great yacht though!

Definitely. Yep. Thanks for pointing that out!

While that particular example appears to be in good condition, Irwin Yachts developed their less than stellar reputation for a reason. It was because of their questionable build practices -- they had a reputation of poor bedding practices which eventually lead to compromised deck coring -- don't buy one without using a moisture meter everywhere. They also had a bad practice of drilling into the toe rail to mount the stanchions, which eventually lead to rot inside of the toe rail that compromised the strength of the wood and subsequently wobble in the stanchion that hold your safety lines. If you read reviews on many of the Irwin models that were produced, you will also notice a running theme they were heavy, slow, and did not point well --- often used for motor sailing with just the main raised. This is not to detract from the designer -- he was a very talented man with a great reputation as you already mentioned. The problem is that much of what his company produced was aimed at the charter trade, and subsequently was pushed out of the door. Many Irwin Yachts that are on the used market will sit and linger for months or years because of that "reputation" that you mentioned, and just that fact should be taken into account when considering the purchase of one -- eventually the time will come to move on to the next boat, and getting saddled with something that you can't move on can kill your dreams very quickly. Keep up the great work on the channel guys ... I look forward to your episode every week!!!

I like your channel. Here comes the "but"... I have noticed here and other times before that you use the word "new" fairly liberally. The interior upholstery does look fine, but 2020 is not really "new" anymore. Same with "a year or so ago". I hope the granola bar in Ken's pocket is new.
@boatfoolsАй бұрын
It’s all relative! 😬 The boat is 52 years old so 4 year old cushions are relatively new… at least in my 55 year old mind. I try to say, “were new in 20___,” but I often misspeak. I should say replaced or updated. So thanks for pointing that out! Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!

You guys are having too much fun. But I wish the camera would linger and closeup on some of the more technical aspects of the deck and below, I.e., where the mast is stepped on deck and below; all the areas at the bow, bowsprit, anchors, tack connections, etc; control panels, thru hulls, etc, etc. You do a good pitch for the boat, but often, Quick Look’s and the jabber don’t translate to reality until you’ve forked over a few thousand to find out you need as much or more to really get on the water. For example for me to consider this boat for cruising Maine and beyond, it would need to add on: life raft, hydrovane, dodger, solar panels (2), lipo house batteries, spinnaker and whisker poles, snatch blocks, engine spares, dinghy and motor, nav iPad and vector charts, complete sets of battery powered tools (sawzall, drills, grinder), vice, mechanics set wrenches, hydraulic bolt cutters, chisels, small 110V welder, generator, log gen set, radar, iridium subscription, starlink sub. The list is endless. The extra cost is probably more than the boat price, assuming there are no big surprises like a water logged deck, ready to snap off thruhulls, engine manifolds clogged up, shackles soon to snap off, chafing on the halyards, impellers soon to break. 14K for the hull really, add another 20K minimum to be real. ;

I clicked on this to see the features of a 32' sailboat that is for sale for a great price but instead I saw how you guys lashed an e-bike to your boat, the cover material you want for the bike, an on-demand water heater and, where I clicked off, a bicyclec tour of some town in Maine. Bye.

Show the boat to my wife she does love boats, but she gets seasick one of those lucky ones never really have gotten seasick knock on wood still have friends in Melbourne Florida so maybe I could just keep it on the East Coast or retire I’m retired so it doesn’t matter where I stay But I’m sitting on the cash. I was looking at more 20 to 25 thou but that’s a hell of a deal for $14,000. Someone’s gonna jump on it. My wife will probably go for it. I’ll fly you out there. It’ll be sold, but I’ll get a hold of you guys first before I got on plane. A
