When I saw 4 Million scoville units I thought you're in for a brutal day, no way. Then they said to do it in 8 minutes??? This challenge is pure insanity.
@LordBhorak Жыл бұрын
Pure capsaicin is 16mil. Pepper spray is usually around 2 million. One of the hottest natural hot sauces (the Last Dab) is around 1-2 million scoville. There's no way that this ramen is even close to 4 million. That would literally mean, that 1/4 of the volume of that ramen is pure capsaicin.
@HipposaurusRex Жыл бұрын
yeah that time limit is nuts. 3 lbs in 8 minutes would be difficult for the average joe anyway, let alone with it being so freaking hot. they were very good about everything, but i just feel like it's a cheap trick to get people in the door without it really being possible.
@krzysztof_jablonski Жыл бұрын
@@LordBhorak my thoughts exactly. 4M scoville is pretty much now viable at this quantities. Think about how much that would even cost. There's this hot sauce MadDog 44 Magnum rated at 4 million scoville. It's $47 per 1.7 fl oz. If only the 36 oz broth was made of ~21 bottles of the Mad Dog, the dish would already scratch $1000 per serving. Pure capsaicin extracts are even more expensive. I found an offer of 1.7ml (~0.0575 fl oz.) for $39 (or $25 at sale right now). To spice 36 oz of broth up to 4 M scoville one would need 157 such bottles, that's way over $6000 for one bowl of broth alone. And money aside - I don't think it would be possible to breathe in a room where 36 oz of 4M scoville beverage was warmed up.

Poor Adam...He knew that this challenge was going to pure hell and basically impossible, yet he still did it! That takes serious courage and dedication. You could just tell by his attitude and demeanor that he wasn't going to be able to pull it off. I just felt so bad for him because I know that he hates spicy challenges and usually avoids them. I wanted him to win so SO badly, and I was cheering him on till the end, hoping that he'd pull through in the end...but alas, that challenge was just nigh on impossible, even for the legendary Beard! I know that challenge are not meant to be easy, but there's a point where it's just ridiculous and pointless. It would take someone not only with a serious heat tolerance AND who can also eat at a decent competitive level. But the restaurant is in hard place now, because if they make the challenge easier, than all those 300+ people who tried it will probably complain and say it's unfair. Personally I think the best thing the restaurant could do, is either turn this challenge into a "who ever can finish it"without a time limit (who even came up the original 8min time limit? It seems so arbitrary and random) and than after someone does do it, make it so whoever can beat there time wins, or just split the original challenge into two separate challenges one spicy and one not spicy (maybe alter the time and amount of food to still make it challenging), .

Just a little correction on shinigami from the noodle guys: Shinigami doesn't mean "demon slayer" but rather God of Death (little more intimidating, yeah?) Comes from the combination of Shi (death) and Kami (god). Fun fact - Shi also translates to the number "4" (though it uses different kanji) which is why there are many negative superstitions around that number in Japanese culture.
