Bird tricks has a story of a overweight Older Amazon learning to free fly. They put two tree stands next to each other with the food on one and water on the other so the bird had to exercise. Then every few days they would move the tree slightly apart so it learned to hop. Then farther until it had built up muscles, lost weight and could work on recall training.

I have a DYH that is 10 and he does not fly. Thank you for showing that. I want him to fly, I am sad for him that he doesn't. I think he would be a happy bird to fly. He is not overweight, I think that he was kept in his cage alot.
@MARLENEMCCOHEN Жыл бұрын
Take him out, open the cage, and let him just be free to go in and out in his own. Amazons can get lazy easily. With Josee, that's what we do. We never close the cage.

Hi Marlene, I didn't know Josee was that senior of a citizen,lol, no wonder she needed a nap. Yes, I remember Kenny and the podcast as well, and now look at him, almost a master bird handler,lol. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, Thank you for the giggles.❤️🎄🎉👍

Isn't that crazy! I feel like that happens to almost every guy in my life, but Kenny really is great with all of them!

A sloth and an otter. 😂 both illegal to own now. Lol. Josee looks like she's found her people. I'm so happy for her.
@MARLENEMCCOHEN Жыл бұрын
Most likely, there's definitely no sloth and other in here. Kenny is out here making up stories..
@Sasser2015 Жыл бұрын
Josee definitely enjoyed that. Might've rekindled some innate birdness feelings she hasn't felt in a while. Hope to see her flying around the place like Blu some day. Also, hope to see more sloth content.

Haha I'm telling Kenny he needs to get me a sloth now that he stared this😭

I push my 22 year old Yellow Crown Amazon around the house on his perch on wheels. He spreads his wings and does the sweetest call sounds. He never learned to fly. I grew his wings out when I took him in and he can flutter down to ground but can't fly. Maybe one day.

i am having an almost identical experience with a rescued female amazon parrot. i've been running her through the house with her abdomen in my palm and just letting her flap her wings. she is also around the same age. it's wild! please PLEASE update us (i could really use any tips)
@finkleycarrot11 ай бұрын
i'm doing the same thing also by grabbing her feet and making sure she doesn't crash (sometimes she tries when she's on her perch and does crash but it's low to the ground)
