I have to agree. The concept of value in business is everything. With Rolex, you’re getting about a $2,000 (or less) value for over $10,000. The $600 fake looks and wears identical to the authentic. So you have to ask, where’s the value proposition from Rolex? They’re great, always have been, but things are getting crazy.

Omega has enough money to sponsor the Olympic games, selling watches with finishing in the same level as Rolex, you might prefer the Rolex watches but quality wise they are close, and equal or better movements and costing around 4 to 5 thousand dollars, at least the ones that actually carry the company like the Seamasters, they are getting more expensive but that's because people apparently prefer to pay more in the watch world, that means that Omega have a large margin of profit on 4k dollar watches , very large, how much profit do you think Rolex has? Also bracelet design in general, taper and wearability. I prefer my Rolexes but Omega makes amazing watches and are stepping up their game.

The fake one will die probably in a year or two. A real Rolex not only holds its value but will function like a new one in 50 years granted that you service it after a while. Living in Switzerland myself I can easily tell you that the labor cost for the real one is extremely high whereas the fake one must be assembled by forced labor at 1$ a day kind of salary. So as though most definitely the real one is overpriced but then that is justified by the image of the brand and the great marketing that they do. And I can tell you as a Rolex owner that there is nothing more fulfilling in the materialistic world than being able to afford one and to buy one for a special milestone in your life.

If you're ever in a group of rich people you'll notice that 8/10 of them are wearing Rolex (even though they could easily afford much more expensive brands like AP, PP, etc... They just don't know any better). They probably are all boring. They just care about portraying their status is all. It does kill the brand for those that are into watches. I don't know, it just tarnishes the brand name for me. I could not proudly wear a Rolex. Too much baggage, drama, and knowing that a bunch of watch noobs wear them just kills it for me. Lange is my end goal. Currently very happy with a JLC master control chronograph. It's gorgeous.

You are correct in that Tudor really is the better deal. I got a Black Bay heritage for my 30th birthday, and it's a fantastic watch, and it remains at a feasible price point even 3 years later. My grail watch is a Rolex GMT Master II with a Coke bezel. But they're all going for well over $12k used, and there's no indication Rolex will ever bring it back. Tudor on the other hand I feel is more likely to make their own, as they already have a Pepsi GMT, and the BB Pro. Why not make additional colors? And it would be half the price of any current Rolex GMT

The fake also has a "dirty bezel" since what makes the real one "dirty" is the platinum filled numerals on the bezel which looks like an off brown. The fake has this exact same off brown on the numerals which also makes it look "dirty".

It is because Rolexes are not rare they are not unique not particularly difficult to make it is a luxury item. The price is artificially inflated because of the brand. It is good marketing. Like diamonds it is a shit business selling a lifestyle to people who do not know any better.

I can get these $600 fake watches. I have a few. Problem besides it not being genuine is the movement is not truly 1:1 clone. They can't do it. If they could they would but they cannot. These tiny subtle qualities of fit and finish require a loo or opening the case back. To the naked eye you wouldn't know. To the trained when setting the watch you would know. Not all watches can be cloned. I have some really really expensive watches and my next rolex is likely going to be a Skydweller. Which is rolex most complicated movement, something no watch clone factory can replicate. Same thing follows for other watches beyond Rolex. Omega, Patek, etc. they are all heavily copied but not completely cloned. Just replicated and decorated.

If the clone is of that good a quality then I want one for $600 but I don't want it to have the word Rolex on it anywhere. To each his own but if a watch company is so arrogant as to make you pass a personality test to see if you are worthy then I wouldn't be caught dead with one on. It would only show that I am so vain that I would put up with being judged and made to beg just to have the "honor" of wearing a watch brand. How low does your self asteem have to be? Now I realize that I am painting with a wide brush and people do have different reasons for their decisions but just knowing that some people value a specific brand of anything above their self respect really does bother me.
