I bought a top for my '91 GT with the intention of replacing it myself (which was obviously never going to happen), after some coward sliced a moon-roof into it. After searching the surrounding 100+ miles area for anyone capable of doing it, I finally found a furniture upholstery shop that agreed to do it. The man was from Mexico and told me that he had never done any work on a vehicle, much less a convertible top. It took him 4 days and cost me $250 but the install was perfect.

Without knowing what the conversation between the customer and the shop, we have no idea if the job was done well or not (except the bumper cut, that's terrible) . If you want an Explorer intake, let me know, the local JY here in Utah has 4 or 5 of them, not sure what the freight would be.

It definitely appears to be a case of miscommunicated expectations. For example, no shop is going to voluntarily wire tuck the engine bay just because and if the customer wants a stock intake then they are gonna keep what you got. Too many times customers just drop off a pile of parts at a shop and ask them to put them on the car whether it's what the car needs or not.

You mentioned that the idle bouncing around screams vacuum leaks. I have an 86 Vert, and it idles very low, when cold (you actual have to keep giving a little gas, to keep it going till warm). When warm, it idles super high, so much that you have to hold the brake at stop lights (yes, its an automatic 😢), since it will take off. Im sure this is a rabbit hole, but any suggestions on where to start?

Enjoy your videos, have been lurking around for a couple years now. First time commenting, because I think I see a glaring issue that just might be the root of a lot of the other problems. You mentioned a breather on one of the valve covers. People do this without understanding how a MAF car works. That breather is now providing un-metered air to the engine, and possibly a lot of it. That air is being pulled through the breather, into the crankcase, and through the PCV Valve into the lower intake. There's a reason FORD put that tube from the bottom of the original oil fill into the throttle body/EGR area - that air is metered. I found this out after years of a drivability issue and popping through the intake. I guess it could be addressed though a tune, but any shop that will put a good set of heads on a car and top it off with a stock intake probably isn't capable of figuring that out either.

Thanks for weighing in my friend. You bring up a very good point. These valve covers are one of the first things coming of this debacle 😂

There are plenty of bad shops that are willing to take anyone's money. I saw a guy selling a 86 GT, asking like 12K because it just had 10K worth of work. He had receipts. He posted pics. It was like a 100K mile car that he paid a shop to do a clutch/flywheel and head gaskets. Yup, 10K. The shop replaced every sensor possible on the engine, painted brackets, new belt, new water pump, new hoses, and with each part came more labor hours. I forget the ratio of parts vs labor but the total did cross the 10K mark just most could do in a weekend.

you can put in a police interceptor 5.0 clutch fan. They have stiffer Springs in them, which draws more air through the radiator because they sat idling so much. This is where I’m at with my 87 vert! Bought it 3 years ago. I’m the 3rd owner. Took it in to get a new oil pan. Figured that since the engine was gonna be out might as well have the engine resealed, replace long tubes with shorties, upgrade exhaust system with a Mac’s, replace h pipe with x pipe and upgrade the master cylinder for an eventual rear disc upgrade. What was suppose to be about a $2000 job has taken a steep nose dive! 😂😢. About $6000 into it now. No upgrades just repairs due to many years of neglect by the second owner.
