I really appreciated the insights in this video-AI tools can truly make writing more efficient. Over time, I've been using BeLikeNative in a completely different way for my literature reviews. Instead of generating content, it fine-tuned my drafts-fixing grammar mistakes, improving awkward phrasing, and suggesting clearer ways to present my arguments. It also helped with citation formatting, ensuring everything was properly referenced. It made a big difference in the final result. For anyone working on academic writing, BeLikeNative is definitely a tool worth checking out!

I highly recommend not wasting 99% of your time thinking about which AI tool to use or how to make an LLM do your research for you, especially not literature reviews. This is valuable time you're wasting that you could have spent thoroughly reading papers. LLMs are useful in the initial ideation phase and in the "robustness" phase where you want to make sure that there are no holes left in your paper (they are also excellent for coding and typesetting). They can also be used to pick papers, but the EASIEST way is to look at the most cited papers in the field and simply follow the trail of its references. DO NOT use AI tools to summarize papers if you actually care about the work that you're doing. Even if you get a pub in some D tier journal, you are basically still clueless about your field of work, congratulations.

Agree with you 100%. Research work purpose is to allow indepth study of previous works and determining it's applications to your work and improvements to the knowledge contributions. Using AI/LLM tools will take all that away, and thorough justification to the research work will be undermined.

This is very easy to understand because 99% of people live like that right now. Nothing much will change for most people in this regard. Ask the man in street when he last compiled and synthesised information and he/she is going to look at you with a blank face.

@@quentinkumba6746 That person went through a schooling system where at one point they required to do this on a regular basis. Its the foundation of knowledge and opinion making. This now enables students to do less and less of it as a basic requirement which is concerning. That man on the street did it at some point in their lives which assisted them in forming a fairly solid ability generally to process and think about information for themselves

Now all that's needed is an automated iterative cycle for revising and improving writing. Creating it as an open source open LLM app running on one's machine for free is probably doable as well.

That's what we're all wondering about! In the end, most of these tools are just basic. And can't really take you the extra mile. Many other so called "academic ai tools" can do this. And they're much cheaper. This one's just so expensive

Is this not robbing the individual of the opportunity to develop a particular skill? Is there not a risk of creating two distinct generations of academics - one that can compile research and find the line of argument, and one that can't because it relied on AI to do it? This feels like cheating to me. There are tools to support, and then there are tools that do it for you - it's the difference between using a word processor to write an essay and having someone write it for you on their own computer.

The technology is out there already, so there isn't much we can do. I worry about future research quality, as most students/researchers are focused on spitting out as many articles as they can in the least time possible. For me, the key is critical thinking.

Is this not.... unethical? Not AI in and of itself, but your inclusion of the AI detection test makes it seem like you are supporting the use of this AI tool in unethical ways, i.e., ways in which you would want the writing to appear not written by AI when it was. Just wondering if I'm missing something.

Do you ever get paid to do these tests directly from the AI tool maker? I’m not against that as that’s how a lot of content is supported, but a review coming from one’s own free will holds more weight than if they paid for it.

Ummm... but this isn't the academic's original writing or skull sweat... yes, it is polished by human eyes, but all this is not scholarly thinking. It is machine filtered, machine organised, machine edited using tools, every step of the way. Interesting that the plagiarism tool detection is so variable. Would have liked to have seen TurnItIn results (is that the most common?). Sigh. But then again, does this matter...? I am very conflicted about the opportunities this provides and the skill erosion this may create
