I was mind blown while going down the rabbit hole of yakgwa. 10th century?! Our ancestors might be shifting in their graves looking at cookies and creme yakgwa LOL but hey, I’m totally here for it and excited to see how it evolves and is preserved at the same time. I had 약과 for the very first time this year, during my first ever visit to Seoul! They are fantastic!!! They have a nice, dense texture with a nutty & sweet flavor 🤤 so delicious!

Yak 약 = medicine Kwa 과 = cookie (from kwaja/과자) Explains why people believed it to be medicine back in the day and it’s still true. Many cultures around the world still consider honey as medicine to this day ❤

aaaaaww a colleague spent a couple month in the Korean office and when he came back he brought us yakgwa, I'm dreamin' about it ever since... I was wondering what will come sooner....me making it from scratch for myself (as I usually do) or finally getting out to visit Korea and get some there :D
