Really nice and relaxing video Jason. What I found is that each hike is a mini adventure unto itself. Even if you return to a good pitch , it's never the same experience. The weather conditions are different, the light, your mood and thoughts. As for the views, it's a matter of scale: on a fine day you get the vista,the sunset, sunrise, moon rise etc. On foggy days it's the few feet in front of your tent/nose. On these days it's the purple of the bell heather, the black slug you step over, the rain drops on your flysheet. All mini worlds and adventures and why hiking and camping never get boring. 😊

Brilliant Jason, my home turf , The Sgilloges lakes.. water blown back up the top of that fabulous waterfall is known locally as "Bean Piobra" which means "Woman with the Pipe." It has been given this name because when the wind blows from the south west, the water is blown back over the watefall and from a distance it looks like smoke rising.. If you did hike up on to the ridge top you wouldn't have been a whole lot distance from your last overnight at top of Mahon. Fairly flat up there too. Great video once again, thank you .

Same thing with backpacking imo, people watch KZbin and think the only way to do a multi-day hike is to do 25 mile days that end with a wild camp and a fire. I personally find doing 15 miles a day that end up at site with a shower and a toilet just as agreeable. And some of the farm sites I've been on haven't been that far off a wild camp, tbh.

Pedantic observation - your tent (4-sided) is the Luxe Outdoor Minipeak, mine (the 6-sided one) is the Luxe Outdoor Hexpeak. That aside, I share your approach to pitch selection. Just find a bit of flat ground that will provide good holding for your stakes and won't flood if it rains - anything else is merely a bonus, although reasonable proximity to a water source is nice. Personally I also value remoteness and solitude so prefer to steer well clear of seeing, or being seen by, other people. Plus, avoid exposed positions when it's windy, and seek them when it's calm/midgey.
@RamblingOn
@RamblingOn Жыл бұрын
You are spot on man, I've just been making a complete arse of myself 😄 Having a water source close by is always welcome, I have become very reluctant to carry water when there is so much available from natural sources. Cheers for the tips and the heads up on the tent, have a good one 👍

Nice chilled post..shall I walk up the mountain..can't be arsed! 🤣 I'll just enjoy myself and make a nice relaxing film. Fair play to you Jason, its all about enjoying yourself; especially when you work hard for a living. I would have liked to have heard your thoughts and review on the new quilt that you brought on this trip. It either worked so well that you took it totally for granted, and forgot all about it. Or it was so crap that you purposely didn't talk about it; and disturb this chilled post..haha. Sit in your tent, drink tea, eat biscuits and watch a waterfall blow back uphill!🤣 Looking forward to your next post..Take care Jason ☺
@RamblingOn

😄 I'm learning to slow down a bit. It paid off on this one, such a great little spot. I'm testing out a few bits of gear at the moment, the quilt included, so I don't want to say too much about them just yet. There's a few reasons. The main one is that I don't want to be bombarding people by showing or talking about gear. I'll briefly mention it but I don't want to over do it. The main reason I mention it is so that when I do a review, the viewer can look back through my channel and see that I have actually been using the product. The other reason is that I would hate to say that the quilt was amazing and then after my fifth use the stitching starts to fail or something while in the meantime someone has gone and bought it from my recommendation. I won't accept any item from a company unless I am given the time to properly test the equipment and then do a dedicated video on it in my own time. A lot of company's want review videos immediately as well as a whole host of other things in order to bombard your viwers with their product. That's not fair on anyone, and it won't be happening on my channel. I've turned down hundreds of euro worth of camping equipment because I wouldn't jump through hoops. I don't enjoy recording review videos, but I do enjoy hearing that they have helped people out. Sorry, that's a long winded explanation 😄 the quilt did well on the night. That's better 🤣 I'm heading somewhere very special tomorrow. The weather looks horrific but it will be grand 🙌

I actually got a lot more rain on the hike up than was shown in the video, I had a camera issue which meant I was standing in the pouring rain trying to sort that out. By the time I had it sorted the rain had pretty much blown over 🤣 Such a rookie. I reckon that it was by far my best camp spot to find. Without the worry of seeing a sunrise or sunset I was able to relax a lot more. It really took the pressure off. The little lantern will be nice now when there's some frost on the ground 🥶 If nothing else it will give the illusion of feeling warm 😄

There are normally small car parks or lay by's for a few cars to pull in. I can't say that it is always safe because there might come a time when I return, as you did, to a smashed window or worse. I don't let myself worry about those things, worrying about something that might never happen isn't going to do me any favours. If it happens I doubt I would even worry about it then. I would much prefer to just get it sorted and carry on with life rather than allowing it to impact on my life. I'd hate for something like that to stop me for going up into the mountains and experiencing a night out in my tent. Life is too short
