From a drummers perspective this is so cool, I love that he's leaving breathing room and not just blast beating and throwing fills in left, right and centre, it builds up slowly and then hits like a truck when something crazy does come in. Not to downplay drummers who do just go at 100% throughout an entire song, that shit takes a ton of refined technique and stamina, but I personally prefer drum parts that are cleverly thought out and have changes in pace at the right time.

I love it when a band makes a melody or pattern that's *so obviously* a "hook" but then rather than going in the obvious direction it rug pulls you at the last second and goes off in a completely unexpected direction. Like 99% of bands would struggle not to pick the obvious note in a riff, for example. These guys go "ok, what would nobody expect here" and find the exact element that's the antithesis of a hook and somehow not only make it work, but make it better.

The reason Vildhjarta is so distinctive is because their songs are all built around feeling. Sure there are time signatures and tempos and rhythms but their timing is all feeling. You can't predict what's going to happen next or when it's going to happen. The bouncyness, the groove, the bending, the waining guitar tones, it all comes together to form this orchestral style written metal music that creates a feeling and a visual image in your mind along with it. It puts you into a trance. It sits you down and makes you feel the music. The overlapping of melodies between the backing and lead with the clean atmospheric guitar parts across like 5 different octaves. They are writing the rules of the game in their own world.

Crystal Lakes Drummer Gaku Taura is involved in producing them and they have just been signed to a sublabel of Sony Music Japan a few months ago. at the moment they are on their first tour outside of Japan having already sold out all of their EU Tour Dates. I've been to their first show in Vienna and they're fucking amazing. In September/October they're also touring in the US. You should definitely check them out. All songs are really fire, but perhaps you should start with the song most people heard of them for the first time "We love sweets"

Finally I see someone else talking about them! They’re beyond talented and their uniquely ominous and emotional form of progressive tech death is so cool! THALL!

Found the band from Nik's react video to Vildhjarta a while back. This went in my top bands immediately.

I think this group is one of the most important bands to do it since meshuggah, periphery, and animals as leaders. how many other bands are so immediately recognizable from 1 bar of music?

Chaos with nature on acid in hell. What a great way to describe this band.

I can't wait for Scottie LePage to get inspired by this acid trip and melt it into sexy jazzy form. This song is so obscure, so weird, so unapologetically inhumane and I'm so into it. The blend of charming ambience/backgrounds combined with this double drop f'ing Z(can they even get lower anymore?) guitar hooks, boy oh boy, we've been treated with a banger. Just watch people try to emulate it just like they did with masstaden unter vatter

Love to see something about All Shall Perish. Nobody ever talks about their contribution to deathcore
