Uma Nerd com Auto-estima Muito Elevada May just be the nostalgia in me, but I disagree. You have to remember this movie came out 12+ years ago and was targeted at children. So yeah, the animation sucks and they don’t kill off the villain, doesn’t make it bad.

@@madisonkimack7776Uh, 4 years before this movie existed, Disney showed an entire army being annihilated by the main heroine, and DreamWorks went as far as showing a literal river of blood, a country being infested by frogs and insects, God killing a bunch of children and explicit depictions of slavery. So yeah, the issue isn't that it is a "children movie". I think the biggest problem with the movie is that it doesn't have much of a conflict. Like, what even is the goal here? Sure, Rapunzel says she wants to "be free", but this is a movie, so the main goal must be something physical, or at least that can be represented visually. Less than halfway through the movie she already looks pretty free. Another problem I have is the stupid magic paintbrush MacGuffin. If they wanted Rapunzel to have a deus ex machina in the form of a paintbrush, ok, but they never take the time to explain what the hell was that. Why is it magical? Why it initially was a hairbrush? Why does Gothel have it? There was a similar problem in the end of Nutcracker, but at least in that movie, Clara being the princess all along wasn't used as a plot device. So yeah, I think most of the hype for the movie it's just nostalgia, which is probably why call this movie out for its bullshit while everyone else is defending it. I never watched it as a child.

I personally prefer the older movies over the newer ones but I don’t hate them. I think longtime Barbie fans are also just very attached to the movies they grew up with (I know I am 😭).

In the Original Story Rapunzel and the Prince actually have sex the „mother“ finds out and cuts her hair off, then lures the prince to climb up then she lets go and he falls into a rose bush and looses his eyes cause they get picked out by the thorns. Rapunzel gets mad kills her „mom“ and leaves but she thinks the prince is ded. Then what do you know she’s actually Preggo. Meanwhile the Prince wanders around all helpless for some years. Then one day he hears children playing and a familiar voice singing so he follows that sound into a house and holy shit it’s his Raps. Oh and the witch owned Rapunzel bc Before Rapunzel was born her mom craved a specific lettuce (called Rapunzel in german)and made her husband steal it from the witch next door When the witch found out she said she’s gonna kill him but he offered his unborn child instead of his life she agreed and said they could take as much of her lettuce till the birth of the baby and since the witch had a great sense of humor she named the baby Rapunzel

Imo talking animals are the worst part of Barbie movies. I legit dropped Princess and the Pauper into Premiere and cut that animal romance subplot out of the movie. It cuts so cleanly out of the movie, that's how unimportant it is. Not trashing on anyone who enjoys the animal sidekicks, but personally they dumb down the movies for me (lol it's a Barbie movie but at least the main characters are shown to have an average intelligence of a mid-late teen, whereas the animal sidekicks and the sisters/kids have the mentality of well, kids. They're often the source of fabricated conflict because of course Barbie can't have any real flaws to mess up her perfect plot, some loveable yet clumsy animal has to ruin something along the way) Rant over hahaha sorry, I don't get to talk about Barbie movies much and I have THOUGHTS.

This is a barbie movie you gotta _pay attention_ to. A lot of the "plot" is in the background because you learn stuff as Rapunzel does and like... why would she be super invested in this war between the two kingdoms? She literally just walked outside her compound for the first time in her life. _The conflict is subtle like actual psychologically abusive and toxic relationship are subtle._ There's not really a ticking clock because _it's never _*_too late_*_ to break free._ They totally could have made the war stuff more prominent in making Rapunzel personally care about it more but she's on more of a personal journey of soul searching and self-discovery of her _confidence and autonomy_ rather than wanting to fix the geopolitical climate of a place she just found out existed. I'm not trying to be harsh or a wet blanket, I really enjoyed your guys' video and found it really funny. The movie just has a really special place in my heart and I will lightheartedly defend it, while still saying you can have your own opinion. :)

12 Dancing Princesses is my favorite Barbie movie, The Princess and the Pauper is my sister's favorite, and The Island Princess is my mom's favorite. I also love Princess Charm School, The Magic of Pegasas, Mariposa, Fairytopia trilogy, and The Diamond Castle gives me lesbian vibes. I also like The Barbie Diaries and the Three Musketeers even though they're dumb. I don't like Rapunzel but I LOVE the theme music

But really, WHY does she want her? Wouldn't it make more sense for her to just kill her, instead of kidnapping her, raising her in a secret hideout, having to take care that she never gets out, all over the course of several years, and THEN reveal that she stole because the king refused to marry her? That seems like a needlessly complicated plan. At least with Disney's version of the story, we know why Gothel was willing to go so far for Rapunzel.

Not to analyse a Barbie movie too deeply, but I see it as a story about abuse. Sometimes parental figures just keep their children away from the world because they CAN. People like this need their 'supply'. Because they like the control, and obviously Rapunzel's pretty useful when she's serving her tea and all that. So yeah, when I hear these two say there's no plot or conflict in this movie, I hear people who have (presumably) thankfully never been in an abusive relationship or heard about it through others. Obviously in other renditions, such as the Disney movie, Gothel has other uses for Rapunzel such as her magic hair.

You guys missed the whole plot... She was able to escape the boner because Gothel casted the spell for "liars". Gothel asked timothee chalamet's name to Rapunzel which Rapunzel answered to saying she didn't know. Rapunzel was not lying. Also Rapunzel talked to Gothel about her escape for the sake of Hugo therefore he was saved.
