The chewed place in your barn is probably due to a horse "cribbing". We've had a horse do this...usually due to boredom or stress...it's a bad habit. I'm enjoying watching the evolution of your new homestead!
@nancymweasel6561

Yes. It's cribbing. Cribbing becomes an OCD in horses...almost addictive for the endorphins for a stressed horse. I have often seen this in race horses.

Good morning, I don't claim to know a whole lot about farming, and I'm not being bosdy. But I've been told to help with not having a barn fire, stack hay the narrow side up. The opposite direction of the way you stacked. Again, I'm just trying to help. My wife and I have a small homestead in Indiana. We're still learning too. Your videos have helped us a lot. Thanks, and have a good day.

Are you hoisting your beef on a single hook or using a spreader bar? If using the bar pulling that up high enough to connect with the crossbeam of the loft will keep the carcass from spinning while you are working on it.

I like the idea of extending the wood siding down to cover the loft. That would look really nice. Also, the sliding doors would look and work so much better than two giant swinging doors.

I see you are using the one pulley system if you get a double pulley you can pull heavier weight with less effort and you was talking about people using a tractor you can attach the Rope to your truck and use it to horse the weight of your steers easy. I hope you think about using the technique of a double pulley even with your electric pulley by just adding one more pulley or maybe three

If you close in the upper section is there a way to still be able to get stuff up there? Seems like it would be easier to load things into that area with it open. So putting doors up there would be more beneficial.

With continuing the wall don to the loft, you could leave the middle open `like they did on old barns` so you would have a door to the outside to throw hay down into a trailer or pickup bed. AND your wood art work .... like Bee Well Farm suggested!!!

Beefy Bois seem small to butcher. Feeding them over winter would be pricey, though, to get their weight up and it would be and up-hill battle to get muscle weight on them at this time of year, perhaps. You gotta do what fits for you guys. Handling a smaller animal is easier to process. It will be interesting to see butcher day! Thanks for sharing. Blessings Abound.

From what I see of the barn - the sliding door idea makes the most sense - I have seen doors for the loft as well as doors for the lower level this would give you outside access to the loft, which can come in very handy for storing large or long items.

Wow you're really getting a lot of stuff done on that farm. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but have you ever seen a quarter of a cow the front or the hind quarter your portable cooler is not tall enough to hang anything unless you break it down into primal cuts like separate the loin from the round and the ribs from the Chuck. I just retired being a butcher for over 50 years when I first started cutting meat it was fronts and Hines so I know what I'm talking about. If you ever have any butcher questions please feel free to message me on Instagram. God bless and I can't wait to see the video on the butchering I enjoy your videos so much.✌💪👏🎅🚌🌻👍

I would wait to process them maybe another 6 months. As a Rancher I realize inputs are high but you have already put in alot of time and money into the beefy boys so what is a little more to do it right? Especially when you will be so much happier with the end product and make the extra cost worth while. If you do choose to process now you will regret your decision with the first bite even though you may never say it on camera. Your cows, your money so feel free to make your own choices but Id wait if it was me

Okay Jason, a huge laugh is coming at my expense. Your image with "This Barn Needs to Hold a Cow" led me to think you were going to put a cow in the loft. I did not put HOLD to mean LIFT a cow. Now laugh. Having never seen a video of the loft I thought the loft was complete 2nd floor with maybe there being a way for livestock to enter from the far side. Here is a thought, put a one-piece door that covers the loft opening with hinges across the top and could be raised to give a wooden awning to offer some weather protection when hoisting animals up and store animal harvesting equipment in the loft. :)
