This lesson along with the previous one with the driver are so eye opening. The way you explain exactly what the body should be doing makes perfect sense and when I put them into my practice I can feel an immediate difference. Everything flows so much easier and I don't feel like I'm forcing any of my body movements. Can't wait to take what I've learned out to the range. Thanks Danny!

I so agree with Rob McGarr. I have been watching your videos for ages now and it has really improved my golf. However, I have a confession to make. I recently watched an instructional video from another high profile You Tube professional. What a mistake. My golf ended up all over the place trying to implement this one fix that would make me hit the ball like a pro.. The great thing about your vidoes is how they relate to all us "improving" golfers. There's no quick fix just a series of videos that builds logically and consistently on everything you have taught before. I promise I will never stray again.

You have a God given talent for communication - having just returned to golf after 35 years at the age of 70 - I find your videos not only informative but inspiring. Back in the day, the golf pros were good but too technical in their teaching, now, this channel breaks it all down in terms that we can all understand. Right now, I am still on the driving range trying to get my confidence up before tackling my first nine holes. The high hands tip nails it for me, immediately I began hitting straight with my irons….the driver may take a bit longer to conquer, but I know that you will set me straight in no time. I may not be as fit or supple as I once was, but the aim is to enjoy golf again….within my limits and as I say…your videos inspire me to believe that I can achieve that.

Excellent vidéo. To me the most important, the golden key of a good golf swing is the take away. As far as I’m concerned when I miss a shot I know that there is 99% chance that something went wrong in my take away. A good take away takes you to a good back swing and then everything else becomes so easy and natural and subsequently repeatable and therefore consistent. Again that’s me but I can see that it’s true for many other golfers, I’ve seen all sorts of weird golf swings during my 34 years of golf but I’ve never seen someone playing consistently decent shots with a bad take away. Thank you for this very well explained video.

Solid, Solid advice, Danny - thank you very much! I went golfing for the first time in three months (recovering from an injury and a job change kept me busy on weekends) and went out today with three new approaches from KZbin coaches: Your "Swing your body, not your arms" advice here, Ali Taylor's "Don't look at the ball, look at the low point of your swing" and Matt Fryer's "Aim for the center of the green for better results" - and boy, did I have a phenomenal round! Now maybe it's because I forgot all of my bad habits during my time off but your advice to keep the left arm away from your chest really changed the backswing and gave me much cleaner contact! I was hitting more square and was hitting ten yards further with my irons even though I was swinging more slowly. (Even though I was using Matt Fryer's "aim for the center of the green" approach, much of the time I ended up at the back of the green because I hit the ball so cleanly... This was, quite literally, a game changer!

What an outstanding lesson. Between this and the feet lesson with the balance disks, my swing is physically easier, much more controllable and so much more powerful. It took me a couple months and some frustration, but this is the first time in 30 years of golf, I was able to fix my swing myself. Fixing my swing was the biggest benefit. I now understand my flaws as well as what I need to feel to be successful. Danny, I can't thank you enough, Wayne B.

I've always thought that a solid backswing is the foundation to the rest of the swing. Without a good backswing, your body is forced to make adjustments to compensate, resulting in inconsistencies and unpredictable outcomes.

@DanielMaude - I have watched this video at least a half dozen times, trying to understand the concept of "turn the torso, lift the arms", which is a bit problematic for me since I have some severe physical issues. However, watching this same video this morning, I put your "easy" swing (9:05 - 9:10) on a loop and just tried to absorb the smooth, rhythmical feeling you produce. I took this sensation out to my backyard practice mat and just worked on developing that same feel. I found that my swing is much, much more repeatable and consistent, and my ball striking (contact) was much more pure. That 5-second segment alone is worth the price of admission. After working for three solid months to regain some semblance of the swing I had in my younger days, this was the icing on the cake. Thank you.

Hi. Danny, is that the same with a driver, I was always told that the driver swing should be flatter behind you? Thanks for another great video.
@DanielMaude2 жыл бұрын
In reality your lead arm will get a little closer to the body at the top of the swing but as most golfers do this excessively it’s best to feel as though your hands are away from your head. The golf swing is an arc and this is created predominantly by the body turn. The body tilts are slightly different between irons and driver but the way you coordinate the arms and body is the same
@harold4506 Жыл бұрын
Basically, this is the opposite of what Saguto golf says. "keep your arms glued to the body during the backswing". There's more than one way to play.
@DanielMaude Жыл бұрын
There’s always more than one way to do it. You have to be pretty flexible to have the pure rotary movement where the hands stay glued because the club moves up because of lots of tilt in the shoulders. Great if you have the flexibility to do it
@desertrat11118 ай бұрын
I have heard Saguto say that. He gives some pretty good advice, but when he said the word ‘glued’ , I got a bit nervous with introducing rigidity into the swing. I have never gone wrong with Danny’s advice.

This title is actually accurate. I watched this lesson this morning, and as I was sitting in my chair I knew this was the one and couldn't wait to get to the range. Your videos are a weekly must watch for me, and I have been gradually improving just by taking your instruction to the range. But as I watched this particular video today, I knew that it was all going to click. I just got home from the range, and I hit about 100 balls, but it felt like I had only hit about 5 balls. My swing has never once felt as effortless as it did today. Making solid contact in the middle of the face...I've literally been walking around with my head in the clouds bouncing like Rory since I left the range. I know that sounds a bit exaggerated, but I am being completely honest. Now on to the driver and short game haha. Hope to meet you one day just to shake your hand (but hopefully for a lesson as well).

This is gold. It helps me most with the driver. EVERY TIME my driver goes thru a wonky patch, it's because I mess up the patented D.Maude swing "awk" by bringing the hands & arms too much inside/horizontal in the backswing. (I think it's because the shaft angle looks so flat to me at address compared to the irons). Focusing on feeling the hands "gaining elevation/getting higher" as the CH swings back has straightened things out. I need this lesson installed on a chip at the front of my brain. Good work!

Have to admit, I've been doing the backswing correct. I have to preface it by saying that my wedge/short game has been good, as has been my woods, however mid irons were a S**tshow. Watching the video about distance and shoulder turn enlightened me. I've had issues with mid irons for quite some time. I've watched many of your videos, and I took to heart the shoulder turn, hands up, and I was surprised with the outcome. I golfed yesterday and employing that on the range was a complete revelation to me. Normally my 8 iron is/was ~125-130 and 7 iron ~135-140, but the first good hit (acknowledging the different "feel" took a few hits) of the 7 iron was not a wimpy fade, but a strong albeit slight draw that carried ~150 on an easy controlled swing showed me that you were spot on! I didn't incorporate all the teachings, but shot an 89 with ease. I appreciate your online lessons. I realize not everyone can "actualize" what they see in their swing and therefore your instruction, but for ME it was an amazing moment. Thanks for your free videos. Had this been available when I was stationed in the UK, I would've taken lessons from you. Great content, keep it up. It really helps those of us that just want to NOT be embarrassed when playing golf and can even improve to the point that we play well.

Danny you’ve been my favorite coach for years now. Porzak is great too but a bit advanced for my game :) You’ve brought me from a 100+ to low 90’s, still room for improvement so keep these coming!

Brilliant! Went to the club today and worked this in. Then went on the course and just kept hitting crisp shots. It feels so powerful when the ball comes off the club face now.

Danny this is a game changer for me. This one swing tip alone has made a major difference for the better in my golf swing. This move alone helped eliminate my all arm golf swing. Danny thank you very much for this video and all of your videos thank you thank you thank you!!!!

You are exactly right. Jack Nicklaus ALWAYS said that the first 4 inches going back is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the golf swing. He said that if you start back wrong the swing can never be recovered. And he was right. This all came out about 1990 in a Golf Magazine series where someone hooked up a harness to a computer and talked 400 amateurs and 200 touring pros to wear it while they swing. It showed that tour players "carry" the arms and shoulders back with their bodies. This of course formed the word "connected". They stay "connected" with their body, arms, and shoulders. They keep them "centered" to their chest. Hal Sutton was a strong verbal advocate of the same thing. As for me, I went to it, and it worked. It is VERY DIFFICULT to break old habits when you have used your arms and shoulders to start the swing all of your life. I now call that a SNATCH (I snatched it back... wrong !). This is also why today you see so many tour players do a practice take away before the real swing. I do two of them. I feel like I take the club back with the big muscles located on my body trunk just above my belt. This also makes you VERY straight. The Golf Magazine articles also included very good artist photo creations as illustrations. This whole thing also tends to keep you very LEVEL and rotate exactly around your spine angle.

Just saw one of those quick videos that shows about 10 seconds of content from AMG golf and I couldn't figure out how he was getting into the position with where he wanted his hands to be in relation to his trail shoulder, this totally explains it. I've never heard this before and I've watched a bunch of these videos over the years. Wow, Thanks

Perhaps your best tip to-date. I just came from the driving range and my ratio of good to bad strikes doubled! Best of all, I was able to diagnose my errors and correct them in the bay. Can’t wait to see the driver video!

It's all very well knowing what are the common mistakes people make in their swing but being able to explain it so well for the everyday golfer to understand is a great skill. Well done Danny

This is a very fine lesson Danny. I have looked at it over and over. It hits home at my game and the horrendous slice come fade that I have cultivated for years. Tried your methodology the other day and I can't believe how it's straightened up Thanks a lot mate!
