11:15 The Onceler used in this rap battle was the one from the Illumination Lorax movie, which was mainly famous for completely missing the entire point of the original book’s environmental message of everyone having to do their part to take care of the environment. The message of the book completely went over studio exec’s and somewhat over the writers’ heads, as they made the Onceler into the twink he is in the movie rather than the analogy of them literally being anyone who falls into a trap of chasing profits and short term happiness over taking care of the wider world cautioning the younger generation to take care of the planet lest it falls further into ruin. That also connects to the next few verses. Jack had been the Lorax in terms of messaging underneath his battle raps, warning the Onceler to change his ways. That’s why I give it to Jack tbh TLDR: if the message of the books could go over the movie makers’ heads, why can’t Jack?

The "if you could go over their heads why can't I?" was such an underrated line that I wish was expanded on a bit more in the battle, because Illumination (and by extension, most who saw their adaptation) entirely missed the original point of the Once-ler: A nameless, faceless figure both meant as a cautionary tale (anyone could become him) but also an illustration of how large corporations eventually become nameless and faceless entities that can't be reasoned with like an actual person. It undermines a story that was largely supposed to comment on the system itself and turns it into a tale about individual bad actors (we just need to deal with them, and then everything will be completely fine! Yay); the irony of such a large corporation doing that is certainly not lost on me. Also, the "mere dust and a plaque by its side, unless..." refers to the stone plaque left behind at the end of The Lorax that simply says the word "Unless" on its front, based on one of the story's main messages: Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not.

This is one of my fave battles, all the hype for the hypetastic Onceler verse well deserved, rad vid as always!!!! Biggering was the song that was supposed to be the Once-ler's theme, but was changed to "How Bad can I possibly be?", in the books, we never see the Once-ler's face, as Dr. Seuss wanted to use him kind of like a archetype of a greedy businessman/company, with no face.

Oncler won, the bar about going over their heads is because the Oncler was a villain that was based off of extreme greed and big shallow corporation. And the movie industry is notoriously greedy. So the villain was a representation of the industry themselves. So it went over there head that they were parodying themselves. Also “Biggering” was the song that was supposed to be his villain song, but it was replaced by how bad can I be. Because it was deemed to realistic and dark.
