Love the new color! The hydra hubs are the same as mine, cept mine are purple. Geo is similar what I have on my personal bike, a Chumba Sendero as well. Suits my riding perfectly with a 454 reach, 420-440mm Chainstay, 40mm stem and 130mm travel fork. Technical prowess and stability at speed is a balancing act. You made some great changes to balance these out. Looking forward to all the 2021 videos with this new rig. Thanks for posting Jeff! -Nick 😃👍

Love that it's designed around 140mm travel. I feel like that's the sweet spot for trail/all mountain bikes. I just recently adjusted my DVO Diamond from 150mm to 140mm and I'm kicking myself for having not done it sooner. Great looking bike, really looking forward to seeing what you do on it, cheers!

Nailed it. To me, at 5'10", I'm always right on that line of M and L. I always kind of liked the smaller bike feel, coming from a BMX background and rode M's. My most recent bike is the Ripmo, and I am running size L and run a little shorter stem to help allow me to get my center back a little and get more lift on the front wheel. There is a big trend here in NWA toward long, slack hardtails. We're still not sure why, but I needed to see what all the fuss was about. It's funny, because I feel the same thing you do, when I recently rode a L hard tail. To compensate for the long reach, I felt like I wanted the bars higher for the descents, because as the fork goes down, it always felt like the reach got cumbersome feeling, and pulled me out over the front of the bike. It was also super hard to get the front end to lift, because there's no rear travel "give" that also helps get the front wheel up, so it required a really exaggerated move. But...by the time I got the bars up high enough, it was completely unweildy on any sort of steep punchy technical climbs. Heck...any climbs actually! It felt like the front end was wandering worse than the Israelites! A Medium would probably work better for me for a HT for the reasons you gave, but I hadn't thought too much about the geometry being the cause. I just chalked it up to needing a M. I think you're onto something with that change. But...it did look like you still have a pretty slack seat rube, and I wonder the reason for not having it up closer to 76*? Are you concerned that it will have you too cramped? I really like the newer STA's, and how I feel "over" the pedals, instead of behind them...pulling with my hamstrings.

Congratulations on the new bike and thank you for taking the time to compare last and this year’s changes, and why it works for you. Like many of us with a bike habit, I have choices when it comes to what to ride but the allure of the mighty hardtail is tough to beat - they’re simpler, fun, and demand more of me than full suspension options. Not better or worse, just different. Thanks as always and look forward to watching your upcoming Santos series.

Love your new rig! I rode an Evil DOC x long frame on 26” wheels and a 140mm Pike for 11 years, although I thought it was great, it beat me up. Now on a Stache, carbon rims and fork (130mm corrected) and xt kit. It is so playful with the upright seatpost and slack fork. So I guess I agree... Thank Jeff, keep up the excellent work!

Your thoughts on HD sizing actually make perfect sense and now I don't feel so crazy anymore. I built a HD based off the sizing and numbers of my FS enduro rig (less travel obviuosly). And every time I'm out on it I swear it feels too big and not as playful but than part of me is thinking that no way it can't be, it must be operator error. I've been thinking about sizing down for the past few weeks and this pretty much solidifies my thinking now. Thanks man! Absolute legend!

Wow that bike is sweet! And the geometry makes sense, for trials stuff and local rocky trails full of tight turns, having a nimble bike is more fun. My current bike has 486mm reach, sure my arms are bent a lot when riding but it feels great for the local stuff
@nikkotate75413 жыл бұрын
Agree that hardtail reach needs to be shorter than full suss. When you’re descending and the fork is compressing the reach is increasing and if it’s too long the bars can get away from you a bit. I have a taller static stack too for similar reason. Good vid.

You geo theory makes a lot of sense since when you sink into your travel on a hard-tail the head-tube gets steeper and the reach gets longer. Also for a general rider I think super short chain-stays feel harsher whether its because shorter tubing flexes less or because your body weight is balanced more rearward. Can't wait to see more riding clips.

Pretty bike! I'm pretty happy with the mods on mine. The slack seat tube doesn't bother me at all, and I love the high bb, feels like my trials bike. Only down side is that slack front makes it really hard to endo, doubt a longer stem would change that for me.
@SUPERCOOLZZ3 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason why you want a shorter stay on a full suspension because any attempt to shift your weight back is absorbed by the suspension which lowers the rear. I have the new Meta AM 2021 (long and slack) and the short stay lets me do basic trials moves with 160mm or rear travel.

Great, informative explanation into the evolution of mTn bike geometry. I’m definitely a layman in terms of numbers and bike geometry. I’m an east coast dude(mostly Long Island rider)I can certainly relate to some of the differences mentioned above between 90’s mTn bike geo and current set ups. Up until recently I’ve been riding a 95 Fat chance Yo Eddy. I recently picked up a new and current incarnation of the same bike. While the geometry numbers don’t seem as extreme as some other modern day hardtails. I still definitely notice a huge difference between the geometry of then and now. Thanks for explaining some of these differences and putting it into words a layman like myself can understand.
@hardmtnbiker3 жыл бұрын
I agree with your theory. The longer and longer reach with steeper and steeper HTA of hardtail’s trying to catch up to full squishy does not translate. I also agree that super short chain stays are not necessarily the answer all trails. My SS has a slider and I can slam it forward or stretch it back. I’ve tried both and I like slammed forward slow technical tight turns but pulled back is nice for cleaning steep climbs and also nice on steep descents. My newest frame is 66HTA with a 420mm reach at a size small(I’m only 5’6”) I’m waiting on parts to build up but this frame is slightly slacker and longer than my last frame plus has a shorter BB height. I can’t wait to ride it. Someday I’ll get a Reeb, I think steel or Ti hardtail’s allow me to feel connected to the trail. I’m not a fan of tinkering with shock settings and suspension pivots, but I know they ride nice I’ve had my share of full squishy bikes too.

Idk I love both. It’s 465 and to make it feel a little longer I had the stack made a little taller so I don’t need many spacers effectively making the bike ride longer. More spacers under your stem shortens the bike VS taller bars or head tube. I have my 485 reach bike to but this one is more playful.
