Looks like Graham Sutton has been fairly busy in the music scene still. He had a post-rock band called Bark Psychosis (cool name) that reformed in 2004 and he's worked as a producer and live sound engineer with tonnes of people since the 90s.

Graham is alive and well, he left Jungle because he felt it lost it's edge and was no longer 'punk rock', there was an interview I read many years ago where he stated that, and that is the reason why he literally just disappeared from jungle / dnb over night (Can't say I blame him either, things were getting a bit shit at the tail end of the 90's and Tech Step was already well on its way to taking over), Bark Psychosis is really the reason why the Boymerang project existed (It actually started with him and Daniel Gish, but Gish vanished and Sutton took over the project solo after), If you are into Boymerangs atmospheres that he was known for, listen to Bark Psychosis (Especially the LP Codename Dustsucker), Boymerang was really nothing more (outside of all of the remix work he did for other people...) than Bark Psychosis style atmospheres with drum breaks on top of them, so for those that were looking for more 'Boymerang' style sound, definitely check out Bark Psychosis from around that period, there's some great stuff going on in there, I seriously (if not 100% doubt) Graham will ever return to drum & bass, he left for a very good reason (as did a lot of people back then when it started getting insanely comercial), but if you really want to piss take him about it, you can 'bother' him about it over here. instagram.com/grahamsutton/ FYI, the double 12" of Goldie & KRS-ONE - Digital as well as the vinyl LP, 'Balance of the Force', are framed on the wall in my own studio and a few of my most prized possesions, there really has never really been anyone else to 'Boymerang' dnb since, ez.

@jmcframe2 жыл бұрын
I think I first heard this break in Ed Rush & Nico - Technology (Boymerang remix) in 1997. What an absolute monster that track is! One thing I don't get: Boymerang - Soul Beat Runna is from 1997 but Dillinja - Silver Blade is from 1996. So was it really Boymerang who made this beat or was it Dillinja? 🧐 Oh and according to Discogs he's STILL making music with a band called "Coldharbourstores".
@__1t__1__r32 жыл бұрын
I was always under the impression this was dillinjas break 🤷🏽♂️ looks like we're wrong
@jmcframe2 жыл бұрын
@@__1t__1__r3 Maybe Stranjah has more insight into this. He might look as if he is 16 but he's over 40 right? All jokes aside. I can imagine that Boymerang made Soul Beat Runna in like 1995 or something and it took some years to release it. If you watch the Talking Headz documentary all those OGs went to their cutting places and played their tunes to each other. So maybe Graham made Soul Beat Runna in 95, showed it to all the other Kings and Karl picked it up and used it or whatever. Whatever the outcome is: We always connected THAT beat with Boymerang. I'm 100% sure he made it. The dates of the releases are just a bit weird and confusing.
@__1t__1__r32 жыл бұрын
@@jmcframe the only reason I thought it was dillinja is because he described how he made it in an Interview, but because of my lack of engineering knowledge at the time I didnt realise he was talking about sampling it and effecting the hits, if you listen carefully to silver blade you can here the individual chops with compression and reverb applied, its not as linear and controlled as soul beat runner, it pumps and ducks out etc, more accents to it, great work by Carl

oh that cool to hear. i usually do the same in ableton, like making midi out of drumloops then use abletons drumsets or some drumsynths til i get what i want. lots of room for suprising results too. but the ableton algos to make midi out of drumloops isnt really that good tbh. that process is better in geist 2 and combines well with regroover pro stems extraction for some crazy results^^. in the end using simpler like ned rush to go full berzerk on the resampled loops til the beat sound satisfying and not too sameysamey random with arps. generally its better sounding, if you do the most of the beat work by hand and not relying too much on automatic processing. nice vid
