I have not watched the Retrospective yet... maybe I'll make a reaction out of it ;) Beautiful soul, I have a wish for you, listen to this songs for as many times that you have to - to let the song/sound fully heal your wounds. just let the sound do the work for you, don't hold back. ;) You of all should know the power of sound. ANGELina has this ability to "channel" the true feeling and sound of the song. It's like she taps into the e s s e n c e of the song, in a way that I don't even the songwriter knew about, little yet the original artist. For me she elevates every song to s o u n d h e a l i n g. Note that the setting is so casual that she has to read the lyrics off a tablet at her side while Ivan just does his best to follow her lead. This was a production ready 'one take' performance that could have gone right to the public for sale.

For the life of me I can't understand how this little angel can reach into my soul everytime. The summer she was 12 with Ivan Mendez. Every single one of their songs together is a must listen. Just two artists, sitting down and doing what they do. Neither are perfect, but that’s what makes it so perfect and authentic. These recording were never planned ahead. All spontaneous. She would decide what she wanted to sing. Ivan would figure out his part. They might run through it a couple of times. Then one take recording. Unless he messed his part up. Which he admitted happened when he got too engrossed in her vocals. Lol And the Neumann mic was a birthday gift from that year. Great mic. So sensitive. You can hear her breathe

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZbin channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover's came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing a song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 *AJ* 💯

Once they heard her sing, they called her "Boss." Not just because she was basically their boss but knowing the greatness this girl possessed at such a young age. Not hard to understand the look on his face. We have all had the same feeling at one time or another when listening to her.

This is the second time I’ve commented today on a reaction to this song. And I’ll say the same thing: when I heard this the first time, I knew that Angelina, at 12, in an impromptu session with Ivan backing her, was the best singer I ever heard in my 70 years of listening to music. Her raw voice is stunning, mesmerizing-but her interpretation of these lyrics takes Adele’s song to another level. Adele sings about her pain, and we feel that. When Angelina sings this, we understand how these lyrics are about each of us and the missed opportunities in our lives. There are so many songs you have ahead of you, so I’ll give you a gentle warning: don’t try to rate Angelina’s songs against each other. Her span of genres and her vocal development over 10 years gives us absolutely stunning performances in completely different styles, moods, and rhythms. Acoustic Angelina gives you that voice full throttle, and it hits you hard the tenth or hundredth time you hear it. Her voice now has matured with rich tonal depth and resonance, but I go back to these younger performances all the time. I listen to Angelina every day-and I never came close to that with any other singer in my life.

I have a theory about AJ. In my opinion she is a generational talent. So many qualities and abilities to point to. However, my theory is AJ sings at a sonic resonance that resonates with her audience. It's beyond tone and phrasing. When you listen to her you feel the music inside you and you go down the rabbit hole without even realizing it. When the song is over you crave more like it ended too soon. I find myself going back and listening multiple times and not get tired of the experience. There are frequencies that effect us and are all around us daily. Her singing touches you and I consider it art in it's highest form.

Exactly!!!! I like that she uses very few instruments to back her up. Seems in the last decade the singers have worn less cloths and so much back up you can’t hear them. I’ve been a musician for over 50 yrs. YoYo Ma says that when a musician can make people feel what they feel , that’s a good musician. Also I love the blues and jazz and the fact that she’s bringing it back. Several kids have commented on her music choices and they actually like it.

Angelina also arranges her songs to her needs. Apparently she has done this since Bohemian Rhapsody. She did this also with Yellow Brick Road. A young girl arranging songs to suit herself since the age of what, 12 years old? Angelina is a phenomenal musician, and I believe that we will be able to follow her for decades. The other thing that is amazing about Angelina, is why she is barefoot on stage. When she was about 8 yrs old ( not one hundred % sure of age), but she came across a young girl in the street begging for money. The girl was barefoot. Not only did Sngelina give her money, but Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl, as the begging girl had bruises and cuts to her feet. Angelina vowed that she would go barefoot on stage until everychild in the world had shoes to wear. This touches me. I was an Orphan from Ireland, but was taken to UK. I grew up with foster parents. My second lot of foster parents in London never bought me shoes. I wore hand-me-downs. In winter going to school in rain and snow, at six years old, I had to put cardboard from cereal packets in the souls of me shoes. Now I am adult ( long time now) I had forgotten about this, but Angelina brought back those memories. For a child to have that type of empathy that she has shown, is Angelic, hence her name Angelina - Angel!

I was just going to tell you about Angelina putting her changes to the arrangement of " I put a spell on you " when she was 9. But I read the other reply by Steve telling us that. To ad to that, If you notice in the beginning of the song you see Angelina writing something on a piece of paper. A split second later you see the conductor reading a piece of paper, then has a quick chuckle. You can tell he was laughing because he couldn't believe this 9 year old was making her own changes. It goes by so fast you could miss it. I always love that part.

It remains, and always will be the greatest video anyone will ever put on the internets. She can't be 12 and doing that ever again. Imagine being able to slaughter anyone who's emotionally available, to such a crippling extent, and then snapping us back into the reality she had destroyed, with a cute little smile and wave bye. I sincerely hope no one had a heart attack, I've seen this like a hundred times now and a handful of those times my heart went off doing it's own thing trying to escape my chest at the end. This simple, beautiful and relatable song and her interpretation is so moving, transports me.
