Hey Austin I was very inspired by that video with the DC bass/baritone conversion and ended up doing a similar conversion to an Epiphone Thunderbird Goth bass. Set it up with active 7 string bar magnet pickups. When I get the fit and finish done I’ll send in some pics. I bet some of your viewers would rock it.

Hey Trogly! I am from Montreal, Quebec and have been a customer of La Tosca, a mythical guitar store which sadly closed in the late 90's.. Guy was a salesman there and was also a member of TheBox, a popular canadian band in the 80's and 90's. Guy is a great guy and was a salesman in that store. Beautiful axe!!

My eyes nearly popped out of my head when you pulled that beauty out of the case! I went into salivating mode when I realized it was a double cut away. Oh, if I could only taste it. I seen BB King do that in his act. What I mean is he changed his e string after he purposely broke it while playing on a bend. He whipped out another string. Casually applied it to his guitar before the second solo. He was amazing!

You know, I’ve owned a lot of guitars in my life. Not all the guitars, I’m not an expert, but I’ve owned Carvin, LTD (EC256, EC1000, PC-2V), Paul Reed Smith (custom 24-08), Ibanez Premium, Fender USA, Fender Mexico, Taylor, Chapman, Aria Pro, Bc Rich, Yamaha, but my Gibsons have always been my favorites. I can’t get past the feel of a Gibson. The sound, they feel like a true electric guitar. No other guitar compares to me. I’ve currently got 3. Gibson Les Paul Traditional, Gibson Flying V faded, Gibson Firebird V, and a 70’s Explorer on the way. Used to own a 2015 Studio I wish I kept. All amazing guitars, not perfect, but better than the rest.

Models like this one always remind me of Chris Hayes, former guitarist of Huey Lewis & the News, who had several different Gibson Spirits, including that XPL with a Kahler and Eplorer headstock 🙂 And great to see a bit of Hamer content! I once owned a 'Steve Stevens' model (very much inspired by the Gibson Melody Maker, with Floyd Rose and HSS pick-up configuration) and an Explorer-shaped 'Blitz' bass. They made some nice stuff, when it comes to US-made 🙂

As a French Canadian, I have to admit, I'm rather impressed with your pronunciation of the name Guy Brossard. Fun fact, Musique La Tosca has since closed its doors in Montreal, Perhaps losing out to Steve's music shop which is located not very far away from where Musique La Tosca was located, but worst, there was a Big box music store called Archambault Music, which opened up a few blocks away and that was probably the last nail in the coffin, however, Steve's music shop is very very well known which is probably why its doors are still open today.

Go to middle position, drop both volumes to about 6 1/2, and drop the tone on the bridge position to around 5, and the tone on the neck to approx 6 1/2. It’s now set up perfectly for some funky blues riffs!! With P-90’s you can get the greatest variety of sounds. ALL GREAT TONES!! Great guitar. I want one, but it has to be the tobacco sunburst.

There's just something about the sound of P90s and add something unique as this guitar. It's a shame it didnt have its original case . I don't currently own one guitar that has P90s but if this guitar or even the spirit would be reproduced in original specs I'd sure be looking at it. That is if I didn't come across one of the two first. I have always been a fan of the Telecaster for its sound and I just like its looks. I recently bought and Ibanez zippered padded case from a guy and he had a Melancon T style which he let me try out. It has an awesome pale blue gloss finish and plays like no Telecasters I've ever tried. Basically would be like playing a high end Tele. When the owner picked up that guitar being that he was friends with the luthier he was shown a guitar that was special ordered by John Oats. Being the guy was friends with the luthier he let him play it before shipping it. If you ever see a Melancon guitar you might want to look into it. They're usually a bit more expensive but from what I experienced and everyone I know that has played one they are well worth the price.

Thank for the information, again. I’m totally ignorant, I thought the DC Special and Hamer were different guitars. I thought the Hamer Sunburst was the first in ‘77, and the Spirit after that and then the Santana. But looking at the actual shape of the guitars, you’re right. it’s just a Les Paul DC Special with humbuckers. the reason I and maybe others think otherwise is because of the pickguard and P90’s?Hamer’s claim to fame wasn’t that shape though. when Hamer released their version nobody was making the Explorer (Hamer Standard) with a flame maple top. Apparently back then a lot of people wanted a V or Explorer but the Korina ones were super rare and Gibson hadn’t made any with maple tops yet. So Hamer built the Standard (1976) and the Sunburst (DC shape) with flame maple tops to really fill that gap in the market that their builders saw. It’s not a coincidence that the Explorer II with flame maple tops on Mahogany bodies came out in 1976 as well. Hamer had been showing their guitar for years before they launched it…. There weren’t that many guys at NAMM back in those days, everyone kind of knew each other. so Hamer kind of changed the scene during that time. Seems pretty obvious they inspired the Explorer II, and, they seem to be the First successful company to make it using exclusively Legacy Brand Models (Gibson or Fender Shapes). I think Pensa didn’t start selling until ‘82. G&L ‘80.
