When you are a post menopausal woman, HIIT is not every women's friend. The key is to find the sweet spot between HIIT cardio and strength training without stressing out the body too much. I am a post menopausal woman and I have had to back of working out hard and long because it just no longer works when a woman goes through hormone loss. Stress management, mind set, and movement (walking in nature which reduces stress) become more of a friend to post menopausal women. Of course a low carb lifestyle with moderate protein, healthy fat is key as well.

I've found trying to use a 7 day week and resetting to the same workouts Monday or Sunday doesn't give enough time to do weights, HIIT and LISS or slow, 30 minute recovery cardio. Try using a 10 day or some other reset although unless you workout at home, with gyms having complete sht hours and days open rn that may not work either.
@yvettebennett61704 жыл бұрын
@@kimdavis7812 I over did it all....the cardio, hiit workouts, working our harder and eating less and I eat healthy and I was gaining weight every week. As soon as I cut back my workouts, the weight gain stopped and I eventually started losing the fat. The scale is evil so I measured my body. The weight on the scale dis not move at all for 6 months yet my clothes were getting baggy. I knew it was a good thing. 😉

@@yvettebennett6170 OMG! You're so funny. And you've just described my exact same situation. Only, I've been doing lots of cardio and interval strength training for almost 2 years and the damned scales just won't budge. Not funny at all. It's so depressing. I've now had to cut back on the workouts because I've got a hip problem. Probably from overdoing the cardio, who knows. I'm trying to sticking to about 4 or 5 days a week, alternating between step cardio and interval strength training. I'm so used to working out all my life that post-menopause and the slow weight gain creeping up and you being unable to prevent it, is really depressing. Not to mention that the pain in your joints does force you to hit the breaks whether you like it or not. :(

I have lost a total of 37lbs doing keto and fasting to a point my sugar level are normal with no meds just my keto and fasting and yes little exercise which is all thank to you. I love you so much Thomas and I trust you because I see the results in my body. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR LOVELY FAMILY ❤❤❤❤

Thomas, would you kindly do a similar video for post-menopausal women? What training should we do? For how long and how many times a week? I do cardio because I enjoy it and some interval strength training, all from home. But I've recently started suffering from hip joint problems and it's painful not during a workout, but all the time after my body cools down. To make matters worse, my scales won't budge no matter how hard I workout. I've got 5 KG extra that I want to lose and I haven't been able to lose them in 2 years since this nightmare started. So I'm wondering what should older women do to prevent injury, keep fit safely, stay slim, and prevent injury? I've read a lot of comments from women like me in this comment section, so I'm sure it would be a welcome video by many. Thank you.

I've been hearing a constant stream of, "add weights, do strength training more, cardio is essentially pointless, you'll lose your muscle" so often even though I feel so great running and cycling. You've challenged me to add some more weight training while also remaining proud of my cardio exercise. Thank you so much!!

I am 52 years old. when I stopping doing the Hiit training and kept doing strength training i got better results. I walk about 1 1/2 hrs a day. That comes out to 5 miles a day & about 625 calories. my resting heart rate when is still in the 40's. I do walking because i enjoy it. I get my heart rate up to about 125 for 1 1/2 hrs. steady stable does it for me. But biking & any activity that gets your heart rate up is good. It doesnt have to be hiit. I also notcied that when i stopped hiit cardio i got better results in fat loss. For me the HIIT wasnt doing it. It raises my cortisol levels. I think it all depends on you. Do what you enjoy But try and get your heart rate up there. But DIET is crucial to fat loss. I keep my carbs low. I dont do keto. I also dont eat simple carbs. I do about 25 g of carbs before i walk. I been doing this for a year now. It has worked great.
@hazween234 жыл бұрын
Hiit is strenuous and demands a lot from the body. And very likely will give you a big appetite and make you eat more. I think that’s the bigger picture from what you’re saying. That’s why walking works better for you for fat loss because (and at least from my own personal experience) you’re not as hungry after and therefore less likely to eat as much.

It’s ALL HORMONE related. Women are biologically predisposed as we need to carry children. So if starving we are genetically already predisposed to hold fat which holds estrogen receptors. Doctors, once they are qualified, don’t do one pick of research, or read one journal.. they just sit in their offices, googling your symptoms as you speak, and looking up which pill to prescribe from a reference book, provided by a pharma rep, who gives them commission on drugs sold. I wouldn’t listen to a doctor now. Ever.

@ N D not true of many providers. As a nurse practitioner student, there is a big push on staying up to date on evidence based practice hence the need to read not only the books in school but most importantly keep up on peer-reviewed research. If you are looking to providers to answer the questions related to diet, health, exercise, you are looking at the wrong places. You need to look for wellness specialists who are open to non-traditional (not taught in medical school) means of doing things.

Just your opening statement was enough for me to take you seriously and like you. I am so tired of every pseudo trainer telling women that cardio is bad for fat loss. In the 80s women did so much more cardio than today and they were much more in shape, I feel. And this continued on throughout the 90s but in came the 2000s and all of a sudden weights were the holy grail and cardio was the devil. In the real, non Instagram world, you can always tell the difference at the gym between the women who do cardio and those that only lift. People are doing less and less cardio because influencers tell them it's not necessary and they are making people lazier than ever.

Thank you for this information. What is the ideal cardio to resistance ratio? Where is is well balanced in terms of time?
@sweetpeace54 жыл бұрын
I say 3 days cardio/hiking, 2 weights or combo w/interval training & a day of HiiT training and a day off.

You mentioned how we should do the bulk of our training before our cycle. What about women who are on birth control and don’t get a real period? Since women’s “periods” on birth control aren’t really a period at all, it’s just breakthrough bleeding from being on the sugar pill. I would love a video on this!

Thanks for the amazing video! It really put some myths to bed for me :) anyone who personally attacks you (and your family) over good content such as this, is pretentious and envious, no need to pay them any mind. You're helping a lot of people, myself included. So thanks for that! And more please! :)

Who is saying women should not be doing cardio? I thought the problem was convincing them to do more resistance training and weights?
@jewlzn71304 жыл бұрын
Theres a lot of women who just say lift heavy no cardio. But, I dont think that applies to all women.
@melissakmiddleton4 жыл бұрын
I think the anti cardio movement is more to teach women that weight training is more important for overall strength and health including protecting our bones. We all know weight problems are from diet not lack of cardio. So the point is if you only have a half an hour a day you should be doing weight or circuit training rather than 30 min of pure cardio.

💯because it’s also cardio!

talk about knowledge transfer! Learned so much in this video! Thank you! I had no idea about all that science on estrogen. I admit, I've been lowering my cardio and up'ing my weight training, need to get back to cardio. Thomas, I am curious about the effects fasting has on lipid droplets, perilipins and CD36. Can you do a deeper dive on this?

Your adrenals are taking up the slack if they’re functioning well. If you suffer symptoms of hormone depletion you should really get on HRT

Great content. Btw...please don’t respond to or even mention the bashers/haters. It dilutes your message. Just keep providing great content and growing your audience.
@gracie43002 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t dilute it at all. He didn’t mention any names he simply addressed an issue that many people would have been wondering about.
