This video brought the biggest damn smile to my face. Speaking also as a long time Godzilla fan who started when the 2014 movie came out, I honestly owe my whole career to Godzilla. I know it sounds stupid to say, but I remember when the movie came out on digital, I started just… editing with it for fun. Then I started making trailers for it, then I expanded to making trailers for other movies which eventually birthed a love for editing and a career that would eventually begin for me. I have a lot to thank for this franchise and it genuinely brings a smile to my face to see that it affected others the same way it did to me.

I remember being afraid of Godzilla from what my mom told me and looking at the posters for the movie. To younger me, it seemed like a unkillable monster. However, one day when i was at my friend's house (who was a Godzilla fan), 2014 was playing on his tv, and it was on the train scene with the MUTO. It interested me not knowing it was a Godzilla movie until Godzilla popped up. But realizing that Godzilla wasn't supposed to scare you (in this movie specifically) and watching him beat up the MUTOs immediately made me fan. The atomic breath scene was peak.

It seems I might be a little older than you because I was already out of high school by the time 2014 came out... but here's my story.... Like you, I was super into "big animals" when I was a kid with a particular fixation on reptiles and dinosaurs. One day when my dad was at a dollar store he saw a VHS in one of those old clam shell cases of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. It was old enough to have the alternate title of "Godzilla vs The Cosmic Monster" on it. I was hooked immediately and had to consume every bit of Godzilla media out there. I'm nearly 30 now and still absolutely obsessed. It brings me so much joy how the legendary films have brought in a new generation of fans to something I was mocked for enjoying growing up.

For me, my obsession with Godzilla started with the king of the monsters movie from 2019. I thought it was so cool to see all these varying monsters at such a young age that I even remember doing my own art for these monsters. Godzilla 2014 was what pushed me over the edge too man… I remember first seeing a car commercial that was sponsored by the movie, where Godzilla tries to eat a car, but chokes on it because it’s too bulky. He spits it out, and the family drives away. Yes, a car commercial was my first knowledge of Godzilla. Afterwards I began watching videos online for different the films, tribute videos, music videos, stuff like that. And then eventually my mom rented the 2014 film at home… I too have been a Godzilla fan for roughly a decade… And my life is all the better for it. Godzilla 2014 may not be the best Godzilla film ever made, but it definitely holds a soft spot in my heart. Easily top-five of all the Godzilla films Imo.

For me, when I was three years old, my dad had one of the Showa era Godzilla movies on and I sat down to watch it. I became a big fan. When I was 11 in 2019, I saw the 2019 Godzilla movie with no knowledge of the 2014 movie since at that point, the only Godzilla movies I knew were the ones my dad knew and he doesn't keep up with Godzilla stuff. Godzilla 2014 is my least favorite of the Monsterverse, but also my most respected Kaiju movie ever. It was my informal introduction to Godzilla, with my best friend telling me about it in the third grade when it was releasing, as well as being the movie to jumpstart my love for the kaiju genre, and get me on many different paths. 3:38 I don't remember when I first saw Godzilla. I recall a shot of Heisei Godzilla and Heisei Ghidorah sizing each other up(Godzilla vs Ghidorah 1991). I’ve been a fan of this character since I was six years old(my dad told me about Godzilla, saying he was the king of the monster). Out of all those years, I can safely say that the character Godzilla has never been more popular than he is now. For the first five decades, he has mostly been a Japanese phenomenon. I have always loved hearing how people become G-fans or fans of tokusatsu(movies made with specific effects), so thank you for sharing. Also, I highly recommend Pacific Rim(2013) if you like the 2014 Godzilla film.

I became a fan of the Big G back in 2012 I believe. My Grandpa is a huge fan of old monster movies and wanted to share that love of them with me. Now I was like 7 at the time and thought all monsters were terrifying (i mean the monkey from toystory 3 scared the ever living shit out of me when I watched that movie) so my Grandpa thought he’d put on a cool monster movie. And thus I was watching Godzilla vs Monster Zero. My 7 year old brain was entranced. I began watching any Godzilla movie I could, buying any toys I could, heck Rulers of Earth was the first comic story I read start to finish. Then I heard there was a new movie coming out two years later and it was really the first time I was anticipating a movie release. So I watched it and loved it. Now unfortunately years later when I noticed I would always skip to the monster fights that it dwelled on me that I didn’t like the movie. Now to put it in perspective I always had a short attention span growing up and basically had the reverse Doctor Skipper effect where I didn’t like it when Godzilla was taken super seriously I preferred non stop mayhem which is why I thought Final Wars was the greatest thing mankind had ever conceived. I have gotten over this phase and upon rewatching the monsterverse movies with my Grandpa as we were anticipating GxK, I realized G14 is a pretty solid film, I still have some gripes but acknowledge that it was good, my young goldfish brain lacked the patience for. I still love whacky Godzilla (GxK is already my movie of the year) But I’m glad I can appreciate the entire Godzilla spectrum now.

I had a similar misconception about the Mutos origins, or what they were. While I was rewatching Godzilla 2014 one day, my mom told me the Mutos were going to be butterflies but they were mutated. So I thought the Mutos were actually going to be Mothra, up until Godzilla: king of the monsters came out in 2019.

It wasn't until later that I saw the rest of the films. And then even later I saw the Godzilla 2014 film in theaters, which me and my family weren't very fond of at the time.

I become a Godzilla fan from watching the 1984 film The Return of Godzilla, then the original 1954 Gojira then the Showa Movies then Heisei era and Millennium era.

15 year old dude here. Believe it or not what got me into the Godzilla franchise was actually the Hanna-Barbera series from 78'. My mom pulled it up when I was 5 and I've been obsessed with godzilla ever since.

you said we could share our stories of how we became fans so I'll share mine. So, this is gonna be a little awkward, but I actually don't know how i became a godzilla fan. The earliest memory I can recall is getting a DVD of godzilla 2000 at what I think was some type of thrift store, and I remember my dad's suburban had a built in movie screen you could pop down and play movie disc's on and I remember forcing him to play the movie until we got home. but like, at that point I already knew about godzilla, so I genuinely have no idea how I became a fan of his. My best guess is I somehow became a fan when I was young enough to the point of me not being able to remember. I do remember being a fan at like 3 years old however. I was pretty much born a godzilla fan, straight from the womb. Yea I couldn't imagine my life without him, I actually don't think I'd ever be born if godzilla didn't exist.

I think I got into godzilla in 2018, I saw some commercials and adds for King of the Monsters and thought it was cool, so I got onto the internet and started learning more about godzilla and watched stuff like wikizilla, vhrano, and film core, and became a fan of all these cool kaiju. The first Godzilla movie I saw after this was 1998, and I remember liking it but it kind of give a bad impression. But I knew that the other movies weren't like that from what I've seen on the internet. So the next movie I saw was godzilla final wars. That was my first real godzilla movie, and I instantly feel in love with the franchise after that. Final Wars got me hooked, and without it I probably wouldn't be into godzilla or kaiju, or other Japanese stuff like gamera and ultraman

Awesome origin story ! For me, my first Godzilla film was Kong Vs Godzilla movie followed up by Kong Skull Island. Then i went on to other things and eventually I recently came across Dhin Godzilla (which i have watched probably 50 times) was a rekindle of my Godzilla interest. Then I went on to watch some of the Showa era movies followed up by the entire Heisei era. And lastly the 1954 Godzilla which was upscaled by Criterion and must say that movie as well has been watched to death.
