The part about the churches is true. I live in a conservative rural area, my town has around 500 people and 4 churches, 3 graveyards, and no stoplights (and a Mason lodge oddly) all within around 5 miles

That’s SO sad that they think they are dying for “god” and they think this is the way to go. It really a cultish mindset to not think outside of your “religious teachings” it’s a damn shame because I really think this man is hurting seeing his dad and brother die like that.

Wait so he saw his brother dying, and instead of rushing him to the hospital immediately, he asked if he *wanted* to go to the hospital, then actually took no as an answer? And the hospital was close by? This is an example of having too much faith in some invisible savior being pretty dangerous when you can't balance it out with logic and common sense. Also, " *I guess* he choked on his blood"?? Did they never take him to the hospital, or have an autopsy? Did they just "well he ain't breathin. Let's grab a shovel, a bible, and pick a nice spot in the back yard for him"? 😅

It's like the story where a man lost at sea has multiple boats come to him and ask him if he needs help only for him to tell them "My God will save me" again and again. Eventually he dies and goes up and asks God "but Lord! Why did you not save me!?" and God says "well I sent boats, didn't I, but you turned them all away!"

I’ve been to loads of pentecostal churches, but ultimately identify as a Baptist for the sole reason that Pentecostal churches are VERY extreme, have never felt comfortable in church anyway. You can call it the “house of the Lord” but ultimately I’d like to believe in a God who knows my intentions and morals instead of having to flaunt or judge others for their own. Long explanation turned short: Pentecostal churches have always been weird to me idk.. I don’t like the speaking tongues thing either necessarily because it’s just not something I believe a person could understand and interpret properly.
@tristanjordan27095 күн бұрын
It's funny because those later passages in Mark that referenced those were actually added much later on and have essentially been proven as fraudulent by most scholars. That's why most newer translations actually omit them or at least leave annotations stating the fact.
@H2oKinsley5 күн бұрын
@ we can’t decipher the Rosetta Stone but all of a sudden people feel compelled to speak gibberish and want us to believe they’re compelled with the Holy Spirit, with no questioning or explanation to church-goers whatsoever. Other than the fact that if you do question, it’s blasphemy..
@darcydreaming69315 күн бұрын
Much the same here, it's why I don't like going to church in general. Everyone's constantly judging each other, it just feels like they're all competing to see who can pray and serve God better. I like speaking in tongues but only because I associate it with warm and happy feelings, I tend to make gibberish noises when I'm in a bubbly mood anyway. It just sorta comes in a wondrous flow... I guess everyone's spiritual experience is different.

We have a habit of romanizing the past, but the truth is, things are better than they ever have been. We have more access to healthcare, food, and other resources than ever. 18:13 but… but the New Testament specifically says Jesus came to reset the rules and instructions from the Old Testament. He focused us on what was important without all those extra rules that were distracting (and still are, apparently) people. If you follow the Old Testament… pretty sure they aren’t meeting the dress code of the Torah, at the least.
