Here in Nova Scotia, when we know the sleet is coming we leave the snow down so the crust of ice is easy to remove. That's the first time I've seen using a tarp in 56 years :) We just use a floor broom from the front hall, or if the snow is deep enough to need it, and with some finesse, you can plane the shovel over the car leaving just a couple inches, without touching paint. When we feel the rain is starting we get all the snow off so the rain can melt everything clean. OK, i gotta say, after saying watching you was watching me, hearing you was hearing me, with the plastic. Made me laugh, been there :) always some bullshit in the way, usually something we left there :) All in all it looked a fun day for everyone. Community is nice to have.

Idk why I’m watching this, I’ve lived in ND my whole life. This is normal for me. I find it fun watching you fellas struggle down there a lil further south! 😂 Bout time it wasn’t only us! Few tips: Prep for snow removal is very important. Pick up anything that’ll be buried under snow and ice (like your chunk of plastic.) Big one is extension cords for plugging block heaters in. I’ve chewed up many an extension cord. Get rid of them sheer pins. Those are infuriating. I put 5/16 grade 8 bolts through them holes. Only gotta replace those once every few years. You’ll go through 10 sheer pins in a single snowfall sometimes. You had mentioned being worried about gas but, the cup worth of gas is well worth the time to stay on top of snow removal rather than waiting til it’s all hard packed ice. Snowblowers are great with fluffy snow, they can’t do much with ice. Use that electric starter. You only want the pull start as your backup cuz that pull start will break when you need it most. The electric starters can be fussy and will eventually fail and you’ll need that pull start. That’s all I can think of from my snowblowing days. I shelled out the 8 grand for a snow plow on my pickup bout 5 years ago. Well worth the money up here, not so much down there. Anything is better than shoveling though! Cool video Brad. I love seeing neighbors helping each other. I plow out my entire block most of the time. Our neighbor behind us saved my wife’s life this summer rushing her to the hospital while she was having a stroke. Neighbors are a real blessing to have if you can become close with them.

Us that deal with it EVERY single winter probably chuckled a bit. The waiting for the ice was #1 mistake. Silicone spray helps tremendously, spray the auger, hopper, and chute with it so snow doesn't stick. Tbh, that machine wouldn't last a season in my AO. Might be ok for some light snow here and there, but when the snow drifts are knee high that machine would be toast!

The struggle was real ha...Pro tip from a Minnesotan: The drive cable that goes from the right hand lever down to the machine needs to be tightened more (remove more slack from cable). It's not giving the friction disc (which turns the wheels) enough contact to fully power the wheels. This was fun but tough to watch for anyone with experience.

Snowblowers are like Fire Extinguishers.... you keep them maintained in hopes that you don't have to use it. My snowblower is probably about 30 years old now... but I make sure it runs every fall, so when the day comes, it's ready. Some winters I didn't need it at all........ other winters I needed it 2-3 times every day. This year it's been used to clear about 2-3 inches off the drive quickly.

A snowblower beats a shovel any day! Looks like the snowblower is working pretty well too! If it had some wheel weights it might help keeping traction? I know they do sell small tire chains for these. Probably a good thing you waited to clear stuff or that ice would have been on the bottom and harder to remove. Good call! Also i'd try and find some hardened pins even small bolts/nuts would prob work as long as they're hardened type.
