She's somewhat of an emphath. I don't remember what it's called because it is rare but definitely real. Some empaths feel the psychological, mental and emotional distress of others. Then there are few who feel actual physical pain of others. It's said that by taking on these symptoms, it can actually relieve the affected person a bit. She just has to work very hard to train her mind to resist doing it and she'll be okay.

From my own experience, people who call themselves empaths are either hypervigilant as a result of trauma, have poor personal boundaries and project their own feelings and interpretations on others, or have yet undiagnosed autism (where it is a combination of careful observation to cope with their social deficits, and hyper-empathy which can be a natural part of the disorder)
@gel22342 жыл бұрын
The girls condition, mirro-touch synesthesia is a real condition. And from what I know, being an "empath" is basically just being able to empathize(empath,empathizing, see a pattern?) with other people really well, enough that theyll be imagining what it might feel for the other person. Hence why people that are empaths can feel the emotional troubles of other people, and be disturbed by it.
@greggbot2 жыл бұрын
"Empath" is just a descriptor of something, not a condition. We're starting to understand it scientifically now, and I think we should move away from mystical terms like empath. Here, this is just a very perceptive young girl with mirror-touch synaesthesia. And as far as people "taking on" symptoms of others, a belief in the mystical and witnessing someone with MTS can be a powerful placebo. No reason to believe it's anything more than that.

@DrNas-mo5ss2 жыл бұрын
"I cannot believe this woman." Excuse you, Dr. Manning, but you are not in a place to judge. The woman (the mother of their patient) is a single working mom who is concerned about her daughter. Yes, she has a lot on her plate and the way she dealt with her daughter's issues weren't exactly the best, but looking down on her like this and making judgments about her behind her back is not professional. Because like it or not, parents do get busy and have to answer phone calls. They can't all be with their kids 24/7. I really like Chicago Med, but it's annoying to me that so much of the show chalks up Manning's entire character to "mom" and forget that she's supposed to be an objective, empathetic doctor too. I don't think I can recall many episodes where Manning wasn't just brought in for the "mom element" - either to talk (usually unprofessionally and judgmentally) to other mothers or tell people they were pregnant. It's starting to get a bit annoying, especially when she herself is a working mom who is far from perfect. Anyways, thanks for the upload! The condition and case is very fascinating.

I feel like empaths experience a similar thing, except it doesn't physically hurt. For example, when my mum is sad, I feel it. And when someone around me is in mental pain, I can feel that too. It's strange. I think that being an empath is like this condition, but we only experience half of it: the mental side.
