I just came back from the grocery store. When you are used to a certain store and their prices and allowing for a certain amount of increase. Still I was almost $30 short. As I was looking for the most expensive and less needed to take off the bill….the lady behind me said she would pick up the tab for what was left. Out of them blue! What a blessing and certainly sent from God to be standing right behind me in line. I told her I would certainly pay it forward but then I remembered the $50 I had sent to someone to help buy Christmas gifts for their kids. Jesus is the reason for the season! Amen!

Even people that live in small places, can easily grow pepper plants in large pots. After years of trying to get peppers to grow successfully in garden soil, I started planting them in pots, and I am growing more peppers that I can eat, and they are as big as those in grocery stores! Try bell peppers, red and green, and smaller peppers too. They freeze well, raw or cooked.

I kid you not when I say my cousin's tomato "bushes" came up to my shoulders every year!!! (I was 5'7") And talk about huge yield, I've never seen anything like it before or since. She always used heirloom seeds, saving her own at harvest.

I agree with you on Gardening. It is great going out to get what grew to feed you and your Family. Dont go Whole Hog and get so much you want to Grow. Choose 3 - 5 Veggies like Potatoes, Green Beas, or Peas. Corn Carrot and Lettuce n Tomatoes, you can always add a few for Fall Gardens. Start Slow so you won't get overwhelmed. Thank You. COLBY, you didnt mention the IMPULSE buying at the store, there's always a tempting item, MAKE A GROCERY LIST AND STICK TO IT! Also, Before going shopping, CHECK RECALLS...I've stuck to a budget my WHOLE marital life, it pays off! Write it ALL down! Try to buy from ur local farmers and butchers, learn how to use the cheaper meats and how to use them as budget stretchers...THERES SO MUCH YOU CAN DO...we give up a lot to stick to our budget, WE do not eat out, period! Its not that we wouldnt like to, but we know so much bad food is out there and a lot of it goes to fast food and other restaurants...we wont risk it...when things fet cleaned up, and lufe flows better THEN AND ONLY THEN will we eat out...its so much cheaper to just make meals from scratch and its healthier...my grands never got sick till they got out on their own...they WERE taught to cook from scratch, ITS VITAL THAT IS WHAT WE ALL DO

Acquaintances would suggest we eat out, take in a movie, etc. When I'd refuse it would be with the explanation that I'd already spent my "activity" money budgeted for the week; a lot of strange looks were sent my way! Not many people budget these day nor do many put money aside for "rainy days". I think "stick to it budgeting" builds strength of character!

Back in the day when we got a newspaper, every Sunday I would pull out the ads. The grocery ads would determine my menu for the week. I learned to buy only what we needed when it was on sale and work it around the fruit/vegetables I had in the freezer. We were the house that everyone in the neighborhood hung out at. We fed our own 4 kids and dozens more over the years. Could not have done it without having a garden and shopping the sales.

Agree with you. I have always understood the importance of having a budget. I do a budget but sticking to it is another thing. In 2025 I need to be more focused on the budget and stick to it. I am always thankful for the money I get. I believe strongly on tithing. I like to give bountifully to our Lord and those doing his work. I live by Malachi 3:10. God bless you in 2025.

We shopped periodically throughout the year for 'small' gifts. Very few of them as well. However, I'm still making hand made gifts instead of buying gifts. This is because of everything going on. Thank God my sweetie paid off the mortgage about 3 years ago. And we did things to be able to cut our food bill down. But, we shop from our shop pantry and our fridge/freezer first, then with those items, we create a meal plan. If we're lacking items, we shop. We also buy 5 cans of something we need each time we shop or 5 items extra that we need from the grocery store to stock the pantry. Doing this has saved us a lot of money because we meal prep and when I meal prep, I plan at least 2x the recipe so I can freeze part of that for a 2nd meal. It's worked for us for many years.
