Congrats on the beautiful photos and the experience. Lovely! The rental company is probably quite happy Mr. Grouse didn't beat the car up too :D

After seeing that grouse, I sure am glad I live in the US; where I only have to worry about bears and mountain lions.

Haha..! Indeed. You wouldn't want one of these grouse coming at you head down, tail fanned...

What an interesting encounter. You got some real nice images. I picked up a cheap and light yoga mat that I bring with me because I am too old to crawl on gravel anymore.

Brilliant work and I love your videos, Paul. He's a mad Grouse, isn't he! What is the bean bag that you use please?
@PaulMiguelPhotography2 жыл бұрын
I usually have a beanbag from www.wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk But this one is from ebay I think.

I had the opportunity to observe and photograph a "rogue" Ruffed Grouse here in Massachusetts this year. An amazing experience but I had the same trouble with driving away safely (for the grouse). I had to lead it away from the car, then run back, get in, and drive off. I believe "rogues" may happen when a male doesn't successfully find a mate that spring but I'm not sure how true this is.
@PaulMiguelPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Haha! I've had a similar experience before - had to run to get far enough away for my lens. I haven't heard that explanation for the rogues.. interesting.

Reminds me of a Pheasant that used to chase anything red (so usually the royal mail van that turned up in the mornings) he eventually chased the van outside the gates and unfortunately got run over by another car :(

How sad. Very interesting.. I've heard they can go for certain colours.

@@PaulMiguelPhotography My theory was that he mistook it for another male as they have a red patch on their face so I tested the theory out by waving a red folder in front of him. He then proceeded to attack it chicken style with his claws and beak 🤣

That must have been quite a funny and memorable experience! I was there a couple of weeks ago and wasn't lucky enough to come across a crazy Grouse 😀, the ones I saw were quite shy. Hopefully I'll come across a rogue one day!

This reminds me of my experience with keas in New Zealand. I saw one attack the windshield of a car and proceeded to rip the rubber off the wipers.
