hey guys, awesome video. Ghost shrimp is very popular here in Brazil as well. Theres actually a great way of putting it into your hook: you don't actually hook it. You lay them in the smooth inside part of the hook by the belly and tie the head to the tail with invisibile thread. Then once thats done, you tie it to the top of the hook, close to the hook eye. Try this out next time, it makes the shrimp very secure on your hook + it stays whole for the fish to bite!

I’m glad you guys fought the ghost shrimp. You can use 1 whole on a bigger hook or use slightly smaller ones. We use lots on the west coast. You can keep them alive longer but taking a container and placing a single or 2 sheets of newspaper on bottom and around top, place them inside. Just dampen the newspaper a little bit don’t drown them. Good luck!!

There is actually a technique to this as well, pull the handle up as the tide is rolling in and empty as it's rolling out. Empty it above the tide obviously or you're just providing bait for fish out in the water. You need plenty of seawater to facilitate the suction action so you're not just sucking up packed sand. Make your efforts count, it shouldn't take multiple attempts per hole. This brings back memories from decades past.

We call them yabbies or pink nippers here in Australia. They are a great bait for a wide variety of fish. Another good piece of equipment to when catching them is a round plastic sieve like pan around the same size as your bucket there with a mesh about 1/4 inch that then has pool noodle zip tied around the outside then tied to your belt or around your waist so it won't float away to squirt the pump into. They used to be made to fit into the top of those bucket here for easier carrying and the shrimp can be left in the sieve for a bit until you feel you have enough to walk back to the bucket.

Just know mantis shrimp also live in holes like that on the beaches in FL. The difference in the holes is a mantis shrimp hole has some build up around the outside and when you start pumping all kinds of other stuff will come out (looks dirty). The ghost shrimp holes are just plain holes like you were finding. I just recently found this out when I was out pumping shrimp. Great pomp candy though.

Been using Yabbies for fishing since I was a kid in the '70's here in Australia. The pumping technique takes some time to master, but in additional to pulling the plunger up you also need to at the same time push the cylinder down into the sand. It should taken only 3x pumps to clear the full depth of the tube once you have the technique mastered. Also, get yourself an aerator for you bait bucket and change the water regularly to maximise the lifespan. Yabbies die quickly if the water gets too hot.

Over here in Florida, we do catch a lot of lady fishes and I normally just throw them back but one time a Vietnamese lady told me that she wanted them. I asked her how she prepares them for eating since they have a lot of tiny bones. She said after she cleans them scales and all that guts, she cuts them up and grinds them. Then with the ground fish meat she can sprinkle with spices or marinates them and makes fish balls and fry them.
