My wife's grandfather had one of the original Stanley thermoses, which had a lifetime guarantee. When it finally fell apart and needed to be replaced, they no longer made that same cup. They sent him a comparable replacement, but more interestingly they asked for the damaged one to put in their museum. I have no idea where said museum is, but it apparently contains the cup of my wife's grandfather.

That's actually really cool! I never really thought about the whole Lifetime Guarantee. But they did honor it for the grandfather! And not only that the old one is in a museum somewhere! So the original still lives on to be admired by thousands of people ❤.

So, why would you want to publically display your product not living up to a lifetime of use and abuse? It's supposed to be guaranteed for a lifetime. It's like; Museum tour guide: "and here's an important piece of historic memorabilia. One of our cups that almost made it through a lifetime... on to our next exhibit". I hope the NHL can sue that company.

@@CatLover-lk9gz I bought an off brand cup that was EXCELLENT! It only busted after being ran over with some heavy machinery! I cried. I haven't been able to find it since as I had bought it a few years ago. My ice would last for DAYS in a hot ass car parked in the sun. My drink will still be cold even a few days after that even. Best damn cup I ever owned. Even though the color was ugly, that ugly hot pink color. Bleh! But for whatever reason, it was a lot cheaper than the black one, the one I wanted. It was about half the price. I paid $10 for the hot pink. I just needed it to work, didn't need it to look pretty. I bought a new one that had rave reviews but compared to that cup, it SUCKS! Yeah, my ice will last all day and SOMETIMES, RARELY into the next day even if I bring it inside. It works for work so I don't really need to buy a new one, but I wish I just scoured harder to replace that same cup. I really loved it!

Her sister is a tiktoker and has to be a trendy mom (to a cringey degree) and she is preaching about how much she wants a pink Stanley cup!? I go to my cabinet with about 1000 tumblers and insulated cups, Stanley’s, yetis, Coleman’s, all kinds of store brand and gift ones, and I told her to grab a box and take a dozen! She said NO!! She wants to BID on a Stanley or buy a ticket. I am beyond blown away. This is like a full blown social experiment in so many aspects. Consumerism and pack mentality at its finest. It is crazy how a cup that miners had once used have become a status symbol of not only class but of fashion, but this only unlocked a memory of mine where kids literally used their Stanley cups to beat the shit out of each other during school fights. It was usually girls, but there was once a fight between two dudes where one of them grabbed a random Stanley cup and bashed it into the other's face. This changed people's trajectory into fights so bad, that if you wanted to fight someone you would have to make sure they didn't have their cup near them, or I would hear people ask, "Do they have a Stanley cup?" Not a lot of people had Stanley cups at my school, but the shit almost got banned at some point, until somehow people stopped using them as weapons and went back to the normal fist fights and hair pulling; I think it somehow became a trend at my school to use them in fights and then it died soon after.

As someone who works part time in an elementary school, let me tell you, the whole kids are being bullied for not having these thing is not a joke. Stanleys have been at the forefront of most of the drama amongst the girls especially this semester (I'm not kidding, little girls are creating class systems over thermoses) and these stupid ass cups are the bain of my existence currently. No child can sit still with them and they end being such a noisy distraction clattering on desks and getting dropped all the time. It's worse than when Hydroflasks were a big thing because unlike those, Stanley's aren't spill proof, anyone who tells you they are is lying, and the kids that have one refuse to go anywhere without them like they're some sort of family heirloom and are so pretentious they won't clean up spills. Other schools in the area are talking about banning metal water bottles. Edit:This was just me sharing my personal experience as someone in childcare and did not need to turn into how little kids nowadays are weak and sensitive and that little girls are entilted. While I have my issues and personal grievances with some of them, those kids are some of the most amazing kids I know, yes they have their flaws but who doesn't? And also, they're kids, guys, come on now. Most of their negative behavior I chalk up to their parents. *Every* generation of teachers have stories, things to vent about. (I'm sure at least one teacher you had complained about you in their private life at some point) At the end of the day I would not trade my job getting to work with them and be a part of their lives for the world.

This video was posted at the perfect time as me, an adult was screamed at by a teenager for accidentally knocking over their Stanley cup at work trying to get a Doordash er a cup carrier. The cup was sat right in front of the sign that says “no drinks in the lobby”. I really didn’t try to knock it over but it happened and she got angry, stating “do you have any idea how much this costs?!” Like no. I don’t buy expensive tiktok cups. If you like your expensive items, you probably shouldn’t keep them in an area where it could be knocked over. All I could do was apologize for the incident but she looked ready to fist fight at work over a cup. Which is mostly sad.

My 10 year old wanted a Stanley last fall and I said no way I am paying that much for a cup (I would never buy one for myself either). She told her friends straight up that her mom said it's stupid to pay that much for the cup and they laughed and went on with their day. It wasn't a money thing because I spend hundreds on her sports and other things she needs, I just won't do it because it's ridiculous. She finally convinced her grandma to buy her one. As a parent we have to be the role models and it's these Sephora and Stanley mothers that are the problem.

I think about this like once a week. We're creatures who can make it to the Moon, create technology that can peer into the deepest recesses of observable space.... We're also a creature that will fight each other tooth and nail over a drinking cup lol. Is this so wide-stretching specturm of cognative behavior somehow required to become a successful species? lmao

I think it was a smart move to focus on this type of content as work rather than animation as work. Easier to make, easier to jump from topic to topic, probably less stressful. And kind of a bummer when we turn our passions into jobs -- so best to keep that as something you do when you feel like it.

I remember the absurd trend with "Salt Life" window decals (Not sure how widespread that was), but people were paying like $20+ for these window decals just a bit bigger than your hand. I also remember having some buddies that had access to an industrial decal printer and spending about $30 on materials and bringing in like $500 on sales of these bootleg stickers. Also I realized I have a Stanley cup that I must have bought a few years ago for like $10.

Same here from KY but C/o ‘17. I used to get bullied by blacks in middle school because I wasn’t “City” enough basically to call myself Black basically? because I’d prefer my cowboy boots I got from my G-Daddy w/ my flannel button ups tucked in + suspenders, I ended up having to move further out to the sticks in HS where I ended up being the only black in my grad class & that school had some of the best bunch when it came to conservative values, integrity and respect & we would give each other clothes on general principle after we knew you’d fit it. hell I gave away 2 pairs of Ariats to a friend almost a decade ago so he could work in them & he still got em, they beat up from the Mines but he keep him as a deco.

I explicitly remember getting bullied for my thermos water bottle in 5th grade, all the cool kids reused single use plastic water bottles or didnt carry a water bottle at all because it showed they didnt care and were cool. Same shit like 3 years ago in high school when all the jocks started carrying around gallon plastic jugs of water cause it was more manly than a hydroflask type bottle

I worked at two different Walmart stores. Had to work two different "Black Friday" sales events. The first one was leaps and bounds worse because I worked morning shift as a cart pusher the first day. I've never gone black friday shopping but I was walking in the store at 6AM and you could just feel a buzz in the air and when they announced on the PA "the time is 6AM. The sale has officially started" that buzz became a roar. It was actually terrifying. I was glad I was working outdoors because I didn't see any fights. What I did see was people standing next to their full sized 15 passenger vans which were stuffed floor to ceiling with things and those people insisting they weren't done with their shopping carts yet. I'm like "okay... I don't know where you're gonna put more things but carry on". One person had a Uhaul truck. That said... I'd work at Walmart again begrudgingly... Only as a second job. But I'd rather push my own off-button than work at Target for a week.

"Their waters just a little colder and a little safer than our regular cups." Lead isn’t essential to Stanleys - nor does it seem in line with the company’s promise of a healthier, more hydrated life. But it is pretty important to their bottom line, and that matters a lot.
