Kids adopted from foster care can really struggle on Mother's Day...and as a result, adoptive moms often find themselves disappointed with how their "special day" has turned out. Let's chat about why this day is so hard for adopted children and how we can make Mother's Day go more smoothly for everyone involved!

In my hometown, girls wear a wrist corsage on special occasions, ie Prom, Birthdays, etc. One year, I gave Mom a wrist corsage to wear on her special day.

Good video. As a Mum of three I can relate to this. Let me say emotions of adopted children become stronger as they get older and adult adoptees definitely feel the pain on birthdays and Mother’s Day. I let the kids lead the way around these days and have zero expectations, usually I am pleasantly surprised. People outside our family find it harder to cope with and bring out the ‘they should be grateful’ comment which is rubbish. Why should someone be grateful for losing their biological/first family. My favourite gift to receive is always a plant or shrub for my garden, preferably one that flowers. 💐 Happy Mother’s Day everyone.

Great video! You really explained well how adopted children and adoptive mom’s feel. I adopted 2 of my foster daughters as a single parent and I was adopted as a baby. Being adopted myself has really helped me to have realistic expectations of how my adopted daughters who are now teens feel. This video was a great reminder to me of how I felt as a teen and conflict of loving both adoptive and biological mothers.

A one night stay at a nice hotel resort. Just to be able to get a day/night away to watch an interrupted show and stay in bed all day would be priceless to me. Happy Mothers Day!

I love it when they plan and cook a meal for me. We get to hang out and sometimes we play board games after dinner.

I used to go to quite many showjumping competitions with my horse, and my mum is my no 1 supporter and always comes with. One time a few years ago, there was this competition I really wanted to go to, that happened to be on mother's day. I surprised my mum with bringing a nice lunch and have a yummy lunch with dessert, mid competition day. She really enjoyed that! I think it wasn't so much the lunch itself, but that even though I was the one competing and wanting to focus on that, I still told her not to worry about packing something and prepared something really good.

I agree! I'd like that too. My sister and I wrote my mom a heartfelt note and had it framed last year. Once we also had our mom's mother's recipe for potato salad engraved on a cutting board, which she loved.
