@@TheSkweeMan sadly I don't think the combat actually expands that much that quickly. I think that in the actual game when Clive takes something from Benedikta that is how he gains Garuda powers. I think it just gave you all of those as a taste without actually putting you that far into the game.

Well to what people have already said, Clive’s va, ben Starr is amazing but as he shared recently, during the making of the game he lost his father (who got him into final fantasy and gave him his first one) so he poured the loss and channeled it as a outlet for him and how in turn it allowed Clive to save him.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how freaking good the voice-acting is? Clive's VA especially. When he sees Joshua get beaten up it geniuenly sounds like someone is watching a loved one being murdered in front of them. The rawness feels increidbly real and it gives me chills. Also love how it's established immediatly that friendly fire & indiscriminate destruction is the norm when it comes to Eikons, like Phoenix vaporizing Joshua's guards and Titan casually stepping on his allies. And the gameplay itself looks meaty, spectacular and incredibly fun. Basically: Like Bloodborne was the reason why I got a PS4, Final Fantasy XVI is now my main reason to get a PS5. Edit: Got a PS5 now. Played the demo. Absolutely incredible, GOTY material already. Light Rampant/10. Also you people who began arguing about Dub VS Sub because of one person appreciating the VO: Grow the hell up. :P

God demos are so good. I get why so few studios do it - if the game isn't solid, they can be disastrous. But if they're confident in their game, a 3-4 hour demo giving a huge taste of the game and leaving you wanting for more is just perfection. The fact that you can save your demo progress and carry it over in the main game is also genius. There's nothing wasted here

I find myself anticipating a game more when a real demo is released as rare as that is nowadays. Like you said I see demos primarily as the studio having huge confidence in their game. The last 2 demos that stood out to me were Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6, both fantastic games. So this demo is a good sign in my eyes, I haven't play a FF game seriously for a loooong time(I disliked 15 so 10 was the last one I really played I think I got 1 hour into 15) but this game is looking pretty great and I think I might need to give this one a shot.

That alone is a huge change for the better - and the combat seems leagues above it as well. Hopefully the demo is representative of the whole game It would be huge if a new mainline FF proved to be a really capable game. Squenix has been banking on remakes for a while, but they can't milk nostalgia forever - they need to prove that they can make new quality entries and bring even more fans into the series. It's always best to temper expectations, but I definitely like what I've seen so far a lot

2:18:12 We've also seen in trailers for a brief moment, two Ifrits fighting each other. So there's still a possibility that Clive was not the one that killed his brother. Plus we see Joshua speaking through the Phoenix when first seeing Ifrit as if he's seeing through Phoenix's eyes, but when Clive awakes from Tourgal's whining, the angle is watching Ifrit, not inside Ifrit. So I feel like it's YoshiP and the writing team doing a misdirection, making you think that Clive is the one responsible for Joshua's murder.

I got kinda emotional at the weirdest time. It was just as I entered the swamp area and that music was playing I was giddy with excitement, The sheer quality that this game shows makes me so happy as a long time fan. Balancing my time between this and SF6 is going to be challenging I'm addicted to playing Lily. Final fantasy 7, 8, 9 and 10 are the strongest run of any video game franchise I've played, 7 and 10 are my favourites but I love them all. With 16 and the remake trilogy it feels like we're in the midst of another golden age of Final fantasy we are feasting.

I think having it be the entire prologue was definitely important for quashing fears that the game was going in a more action-adventure focused route as opposed to a story heavy RPG. I havent cared this much about an FF protag's personal arc as the way this game sets up Clive's revenge story, since maybe Tidus/Yuna in X, and I loved the implicit worldbuilding, like showing how people use magic for everyday tasks outside combat like with Benedikta and her cigarette

Considering how the dad has to play her rules with clive whenever shes around. Also I'm surprised no one is talking about this but I love how they show off the tattoo symbol on the cheek. It's subtle that it's there but if you think about it, it's perfect forshadowing on what clive's eventual fate is. I can't wait to learn what that symbol even means and what it implies to the world. Everything we've seen of this game is outstanding. From the concept, the narrative, world building down to music, character designs, dialogue and voice acting. I've never seen FF in such good shape in a LONG time (excluding FF14) and I am rooting for CBU3's huge success because I know this game is taking risks by going this direction. They have shown great confidence in the final product and the demo has never made a week feel so long. The last time I was excited for a FF game was FF13 and we know how that one turned out. I hope the reception of FF16 sends a message to the other teams on how the series has critically fallen behind. Not one to harp on about awards but imagine what a statement a FF game grabbing GOTY would make.

I really love this demo. Playing the Eikonic Challenge over and over in an attempt to get better at weaving in multiple abilities, combos, air stomps, etc is so much fun, and it looks absolutely beautiful. If they can’t optimize for a smooth vrr presentation in Frame Rate focused mode on release I’ll continue to play on Graphics focused mode. It’s smooth enough with the motion blur and is actually a consistent experience.

I was playing the eikonic challenge over to get better, but then I decided to redo the story portion and save before all the bosses to get better with Clives base kit before getting 5 more cooldowns and 2 more gimmicks to think about. I did manage to find out that if you have magic burst mastered then you have enough time to change eikons in between your melee attack and magic burst though which is sick. You can get in three different elements in one combo, and set up for the counter or attack you want on a specific eikon in the middle of a combo

Love the aesthetics in this game and how they’re all still out their ff designs but grounded in being practical for actual armor so we end up seeing a lot of chainmail in sections needing to be flexible for movement and heavy plate armor on the areas around that and layered on top of leather and mail. Another detail I absolutely love is how the Dragoons instead of having mail as there light flexible layer that goes under plate they have scaled armored because of SanBreque’s obsessions with dragons.

A correction on the "FF XIII having active time lore" FFXIII only had a synopsis type lore and you couldn't pause the game and see it to clear your doubts as events unfolded its very diffrent from this because in XIII that would only be useful in subsequent playthroughs since you could only read them after the fact in XVI you ger the explanation on the spot making it easier to understand situations as they are happening

I'm so curious about the mystery behind Ifrit. In earlier trailers we see two Ifrits duking it out, and Ifrit's Eikon abilities have been noticeably absent, yet, again, if you look at earlier trailers, they show an Ifrit ability in the ability page. 'Wyke o' the Whisps' What are they hiding about ifrit! lol

I'm guessing it's gonna have to do something with clive's identity. I mean he is already basically jon snow, so adding a plot point about how he was switched at birth/a bastard/something similar doesn't seem far off

@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 He is the firstborn son of the Archduke and Duchess, just like Joshua. But he did not become a dominant, so he has taken a "backseat" in terms of political power. Also, there seems to be a misconception for some people about the events at the end of the demo. Clive did not kill Joshua. He was not even fighting him. He witnessed the other "Fire Dominant"(Ifrit), and could only watch helplessly as the two Dominants fought. As we see in the Eikon challenge(at the end against Benedikta), it seems that Clive can siphon the power of Dominants, gaining part of their Eikon powers. It is like he is resonating with them or something, and it probably has some connection to the Mother Crystals and the Blight(and probably why he didnt become the Phoenix's Dominant). The game opening narration speaks of the Realm's reliance of the Mother Crystals and we are shown how people with innate magical powers are persecuted and branded, so my guess is Clive is somekind of anomaly that forces change and upheaval. In the Eikon Challenge, the player is given various abilities to try out ahead of time, but I am guessing that in the real game, he wont have the Garuda abilities until after his encounter with Benedikta.

That is why they are searching for the other Fire Dominant(the one who killed Joshua, and that Benedikta somehow captured later on) in the Eikon Challenge segment. This other Dominant is probably the person we saw shortly before Ifrit appeared.

Looking at it now, let's all appreciate how much better that game had been if they leaned into Basch being the protagonist, as was originally intended. You reading the lore about Clive's mom made me realize that he's probably secretly adopted. He's not sick like his brother (do to inbreeding) and Clive also has a Dominant which apparently is weird to have 2 in a family.

I think he looks too much like his father and mother to be adopted. I really think it's as simple as Clive being a disappointment in his mother's eyes. She was married into the family because her bloodline has a good track record for giving birth to the Phoenix. When her first son ended up being a "failure", that probably damaged Clive's mother's pride, so much so that she could never forgive the son that, at least in her eyes, tainted her honor

Max, I really appreciate your showcase of the demo because you're the only one (who I've seen playthrough the demo) that has shown a more in-depth perspective to the combat and what one is capable of doing. You've shown that the combos and special moves are much more flexible and and some cases, cancellable to other moves, magic, evades, etc. Everyone else who I've seen play through this demo did very basic, button mashing combos that didn't really have any diversity or showcase what was possible. I'm glad you took the time to highlight the combat and show off different examples of what CAN be done. With some of the combat being based on cooldowns, which is very FFXIV, I'm very excited for it and to see how the combat challenges a player's move management capabilities.

well as there is no costume tab in the menus... and armor slots are just weapon and accessories there will most likely be no appearance changing. honestly 15 was the only FF game that let you change looks.

Heat wave counter only really works well against projectile magic, and if you do it correctly you send out 5 waves.

Honestly, if he is in fact ifrit and is the person he is looking for that could make for a good story, however, they have mentioned in some of the trailers about dark eikons which are basically like the corrupted version of the other one, so there could be 2 different ifrits and even if clive ends up being ifrit, it could be the dark version that actually attacked them and is who he is really looking for.

The demo completely changed my mind and erased all my doubts about this game. At first I wasn't hyped for this. But having tried the demo, made me so annoyed that i have to wait until the 22nd. I want to pulverize all those traitors as soon as possible. And I also want to reunite with Jill again. I want to explore more but since I was pressed for time, I didn't bother exploring in the demo. So I'll definitely make up for it in the full game. I'll restart from the beginning and take my time.
