I've always tried to whiten all of the walls, and add some super bright LED lights. Nothing worse than working in a dark and gloomy shop, and fighting to see what you are looking at. Especially fine pencil lines.

I understand saving money. When I built my 12x24 shop, I put the rafters on a ten/twelve pitch. I have NO ceiling joist but braced the rafters with cross bracing using the same 2x8 rafters and bracing. I also used hurricane clips on all rafters to the wall. I love the open ceiling and I never have to worry about flipping a board or anything hitting the ceiling. As for the walls, I insulated all and covered the wall with 1/4" luan. Cheap and turned out looking damn good. I have two small windows mostly for ventilation. Don't want anyone looking and seeing what is in the shop. On one end of the shop over the desk area I put 2x8 ceiling joist and a 4x12 floor for junk. For lighting, I used fan type LED lights. In the middle of the shop, a five blade LED light, 12, 500 lumens. On each end I use three blade LED lights, 8,500 lumens each. It is lit up.

Hey Sam! Your bloopers are the best! I had my "guy" hang OSB in my garage art studio. After all the chaulking of seams and butt meets, I decided to paint it white too. 5 coats......I thought I'd never get it covered correctly, but I'm very happy with it and you know that wood is sealed. I run a Delhi Penguin Heat and Air Unit out here and my studio is 74 degrees all day everyday, even with the concrete floors which I covered with cheap linoleum. Love my space, and so happy to see all your side hustle jobs coming to fruition. Can't wait to see more laser videos too. I keep bringing more viewers over to watch you guys and they are enjoying it all. Keep on truckin!

My husband and I did this in his workshop in December 2021. He used OSB on the walls and the ceiling. We used two coats of Valspar Bonding Primer and one coat of Valspar Reserve in semi-gloss. The shop is 12 X 32. We painted all of the walls and the ceiling and he has bright lights also. We think it turned out amazing so I am sure yours is great also!!

The OSB is a cool look but see this Can you seal formaldehyde with paint? Good ventilation can reduce the effect of formaldehyde. So can sealing the products with paint or other coatings, such as varnish. In severe cases, removal of the formaldehyde source is the best bet must everything have formaldehyde in it now you can get the formaldehyde free insulation Behr 123 Bullseye and Kilz all water-based you can have them 10 to make sure it has a white face to it so that it can be tinted I've been in drywall on my life but I still wouldn't put it in a shop it's not necessary really. overkill for me except for around a heater or stove it depends on what you like I guess:)

I like the use of OSB. With enough paint it really brightens up the shop, you can attach things almost anywhere and cost compared to plywood. Dry wall just not as good at hanging stuff and it still has to be painted. 👏👏👏

Looks good, i do agree, i like it bright too. OSB is not bad for your walls. Now you have sturdy walls to hang things on. We added 3/4" plywood in all our garage, then sheetrock on top just to have it uniform with everything else. Wish i would have done that to all out walls in the house.. LOL...

Nice. My Dad built what we called a back porch on to our house it was closed in. I talked my Mom into letting me redo it and make a den. So my brother, Mom and myself worked on it. I didn't have money for sheetrock. Osb was 3 or 4 dollars a sheet back then. Last year I was able to paint it. I used a blue for my color. I used a paint and primer in one. But it took 4 &1/2 gallons. But I'm so glad I did it. Your shop looks great.

Do the Shuffle Shuffle, you missed the perfect opportunity to say 'Truffle Shuffle', lol. One thing to try with painting the OSB, drywall joint compound with the blue lid. Quick skim coat, let it dry, then lightly sand and you'll likely have a fairly uniform finish. Also works if you're making a quick and dirty box or something out of melamine for the edges if you don't want to tape it.. I just did this over some crappy textured plywood we filled in under the new mini splits, and you can't tell it's not a piece of drywall there now..

you mightve been able to prime it to get most of the osb from sucking up moisture then trow on newspaper with starch. wallpaper glue / woodglue thinned with water? then paint over that , once you cannot read the newspaper print the surface should be a lot smoother and you can cover over the gaps too , not sure how it will last in moist air , prolly need some pretty water resistand glue for the newspaper so it doesnt fall of the walls paint and all

SamMan, With the couple thick coats of paint on those OSB panels, it will smooth the texture quite a bit. Look great too. Much better choice IMO than burning sheets of pricey T111 to panel the shop walls. Your work space is coming together nicely. Soon the chips will fly.....maybe snow too IDK T

A friend of mine had a power roller like that. He wanted to paint the walls of his house and asked if I would help. I said yes, so we went to lunch. When I got back, every wall in the house was wet. The house reeked of paint. He was in the chair out of breath. I asked what happened. Are you done already? He says, yea, I don’t know what happened. I though I get started before you got back. But, when I turned it on, It was coming out so fast and wouldn’t stop.🙃

if you seal your wood it a penetrating sealer or a two part catalyst sealer whic is better you can paint it easy and the paint will not soak in the wood. lacquer or polyurethane are not sealers use the two part if you can its much better.

OSB does have a rather "cheap" look to it, until you hit it with some 80 grit on your random orbital sander, followed up with some 120, and 180. It takes on a whole new look once cleaned up. I do agree with you about how it looks on my monitor, as opposed to, how raw OSB looked.

While Sam has a lot, it does sound like you may be a little low in your lamp count. Besides the lumens, or amount of light, it is also helpful to have lights placed to minimize shadows while maximizing task lighting. I combined middle of room and edge lighting, as you did, but I have more of both in similar square footage. Task lighting (all my fixtures are 4 ft LED) is over the workbench, drillpress/sanding station, lathe, and saw, and soon my new CNC. I have, I think 4 lights down the middle. My shop is longer and narrower than yours, which calls for different central lighting. That's 9, but I think there are 10. 1 might be in a box! I think I paid around $25 a piece on sale about 6 or 7 years ago. $250 for a happier place, easier work, and greater safety was a no-brainer for me.
