It's great so see Wilson dedicating themselves to improving their woods. It's no secret that their irons are great, but the woods have been lacking until recently. I get why Wilson came out with this driver a lot of new players or high handicappers aren’t worried about driving a ball 300 yards plus, there worried about the severe hooks & all that fun stuff that comes with a driver and I think Wilson knocked it out of the park with this. Not to many adjustments to get confused with it’s a buy this club and go hit the local driving range up and smash some balls and get used to using a driver. When I first got into golf I absolutely hated my driver or any driver for that mattter, if I hit a ball straight 200 yards I marked it down on my calendar that’s how rare it was. On long par 5’s I would not even touch the thing I’d go hybrid 3 drill the ball 250 yards then do it again. If you’re just getting into golf don’t go buy the most expensive club thinking it will be the be all end all or think it will make you as good as rick because sadly it won’t.
@athomson6523 жыл бұрын
I agree, I bought the Taylor made rbz driver which is pretty much the same thing. It’s basic and you don’t need to worry about adjusting anything. I think more brands need to come out with 250-300 dollar drivers that are just like this.

It’s good to see some brands reviewed that aren’t so expensive. I love my new Tour Edge EXS 220 and paid just $250 for it! It feels as if the clubface wants to hit the ball straight, so not the driver for massive shaping and I am more than happy with that 😊. I think we buy the big brands not only due to tons of advertising, but because they are tried and true not only professionally but by amateurs. Big brands put tons of money into their design and technology. Wilson has the $$ for top tech and design, to pay for tons of advertisement and to pay more pro players but they don't. Why? It's a legit question Wilson should ask themselves. There are tons of pros that can play ANY driver they want, (not most, but many) but they do not ever choose Wilson. Why? I think I know the answer, but I am curious as to what others think why. Wilson holds themselves behind. The name is there, but the tech, design, etc has NOT been there for decades. Since Palmer, Nicklaus, Sneed, etc. That is waaaaay too long.
@thatsballer3 жыл бұрын
@@Grunt21Tennessee The reason pros won't play the smaller brands is because they don't get paid. There are players on smaller tours that play Mizuno, foregoing sponsorship dollars. There was even an anonymous survey amongst PGA and European Tour players of which brand they'd play if there was no sponsorship money, and something like 40% voted Mizuno, and the next best was around 15%.
@Grunt21Tennessee3 жыл бұрын

Wilson was part of my journey of starting and falling in love with golf, and I can only recommend people to test them out themselves, once public testing-days start again. Whenever someone asks me what beginners-set of irons to go for, I don't hesitate to mention Wilson. I'd really like to test this driver now, so if anyone asks for a great valued-driver, I can point them to this one. I’m firmly in the “don’t want adjustment” on my driver camp. I currently play with a Mizuno MP650 10.5 deg and prior to that TM ones none of which were adjustable, I just like to know with a mishit/bad shot that it’s my fault rather than a set up or failing play to the set up. to A weight I could put up with. The price too of most new drivers currently available on the market is without a doubt a reason this Staff model will be a great option for most.

Rick you have the best golf channel, very informative and polite (which makes a difference). Seems like playing a round with you , as you out drive me by 50 yards, you would still say , “hey great drive!”

I worked for a massive golfer retailer in Canada. And I can tell you, the Wilson products performed incredibly well. They were tough to sell, even if people hit them further and straighter, they’d opt for a way more expensive option. Always confused me as to why such an iconic golfing brand is scoffed at these days.

I love my Wilson Staff from a few years ago.

Wilson is in that category with Srixon, Mizuno, and Honma. Always an option for irons for players, but swimming upstream trying to keep up with the big 4 on drivers and woods.

The Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 are right there with the big boys. ZX5 especially. Long and straight.

@@andya2665 I'm not saying they're not as good. Im saying they're fighting an uphill battle for recognition. They'd really need something game changing to break into the conversation of the average golfer.

Wilson has been stepping up their game with some great products lately. Their Launchpads compete with Cleveland Launchers, and their putters have been amazing the last few years. They are quickly becoming a good beginner option to make an affordable, forgiving set of clubs.

I play the cortex driver right now. Totally changed my confidence driving the ball and my opinion on Wilson. My only concern about the new D9 is it’s not adjustable! That being said my cortex is only a few years old and still has some pop in it left. Love the reviews!
