You will be hailed as the long hitter in the group after making this small golf swing change. You'll be hitting your driver so much longer that they'll be embarrassed and beg you to teach them how you do it. That's the funny part, it's just a 5 minute golf swing change. All you did was make your hands a little bit lower in your backswing. That's the simple golf tip that did it. The rest is history - and you blasted that ball to the moon and back.

Your tips are worth their weight in gold. I have been using this technique for three and a half years and the drives are much longer. Recently I was in a fligt with a strange golf instructor. I hit the first tee 30 yards longer than he did and he was a little embarrassed. But now he knows Saguto Golf too, LOL . Great job Tom, thank you!

This is virtually identical to what happened to me within the last year. I'm 71 and this has changed the game from an inconsistent struggle to almost being automatic. I use these principles for all my clubs.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 ай бұрын
That's fantastic! Automatic is a wonderful thing in golf, and yes - this absolutely applies to all clubs. By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Thanks so much for your validating remarks regarding this lesson video, and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom

Finding the balance between 'high hands' and 'wrapping around myself too much' is the exciting challenge of my golf game right now. With irons, I had a bad habit of being too 'around' myself- ex: lead arm under my shoulder looking down the line. This was resulting in alot of overdraws and a giant hook as my miss, not to mention not being able to hit cuts or fades if I wanted to. I've been working on getting that angle better, and covering my shoulder with the lead arm, which has given me much better control over ball flight again. The problem is, I tried to take the same swing to my driver and fairway woods and it has resulted in some swings my 2nd grade teacher would describe as 'very creative.' Oh well, forever a student of the golf swing, I guess!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 9 күн бұрын
LOL! I think we all are forever a student of the golf swing, including those guys and gals on the various Tours!! It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver and woods, it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Specific to the driver, many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball".. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Great video Tom. Id like to see you talk about how and when the wrists should hinge and when they should re-hinge in order to produce a low and around swing.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 27 күн бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Michael! I simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Fantastic video. And Saguto is once again 100% right. The real vs feel in that lower takeaway is spot on. When I first learned how to do the lower take away I thought my hands were below my hips, it felt so awkward. But once I kept at it, the results spoke for themselves. Bombs dead center with an occasional draw.

Thankful for this reminder. I'm at the tail end of my 1st year in learning golf and this was the motion that got me cranking drives onto the fairway. The timing of this lesson was perfect for me! I had been struggling with inconsistent contact, a lot of pull hooks, and trouble feeling the top of my swing. I finally got around to taking a video of myself from behind a few days ago, and was shocked to see that I was pushing the club out away from my body, losing the connection between my arms and chest, and getting the club too high at the top. I went to the range yesterday with the simple thought of swinging the club back inside and maintaining connection, and immediately started hitting consistently solid, crispy shots. I was so thrilled that I went over to the adjacent Par 3 course and shot a personal best of 3 over par, with birdies on two of the first four holes! All of my tee shots were solid and were either on or close to the green, and the only thing that kept me from shooting even par is that my short game is lagging behind. I think I might be starting to love golf again! Thanks so much Tom.

I second this! Only thing I feel that is missing from the online courses 😅 weird inclines or lies, sand, thick rough, the whole bit and kaboodle - I dare say most of us didn't start with any real teachers and so have developed via experience and KZbin tips 😂
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Once you have the fundamentals of the swing down, you come to realize that they don't change. Different lies necessitate various setup adjustments and club selections, but once those are established we just make our swing. For example, with regard to hitting out of the rough: 1) Place some additional weight forward in setup. 2) Play the ball a bit further back in the stance. 3) Firm up your grip a bit (without adding tension). 4) Emphasize the tilt component to go along with that extra forward weight as you're going to need more of a descending blow to extract to ball. 4) The thicker the cabbage, the more loft you're going to need. 5) In heavy rough expect the grass to grab your clubface and close it, affecting both starting direction and curvature. Make necessary alignment adjustments to compensate for this. 6) Take only what the lie gives you. Sometimes that means just chipping it back into play. Don't go from trouble to trouble. Remember one of Dirty Harry's famous quotes: "A man's got to know his limitations..." TS

This was a really good video. I can't tell you how many golf instructors I have see teaching that Jim Furyk "loop" to try to get the downswing from the inside, I also find when I am too high I often over engage my wrist turn in both the back swing and the down swing .. and even with a very neutral grip it causes a massive over hook. A high back swing (like you said causing an over-the-top" movement) on the downswing causes me "fat" shots or the heel of the club digging because I'm steep. Your last few videos have been spot on for a ton of high handicap golfers on how they can improve very quickly.

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, Ritchie! Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness…. Thanks for your kind words and keep up the great work!! Tom,your lessons saved me. I have played golf for over 60 years and generally had a handicap of 3 to 7. Shot my age at 74, but recently I was close to quitting as I had lost distance and any sense of consistent ball striking. I was a pretty good shift and lift swinger as my swing was admired by many. But with age , I lost turn and timing and suddenly I hit it fat or soft and right. I was so frustrated that I thought , now is the time to take up fishing. While browsing thru KZbin I saw your video on Hogan,and I realized that the greatest ball striker of all time, was close to being stack and tilt. So with your one video in mild ,I went to the range and lo and behold, solid contact was back. And the swing was so simple, and the shoulder and hip turn was back. The contact was so good that drives now carry 10 yds further and those dreaded doubles were gone. Now at 76,I can still play from the blue tees.I realize this swing works for all ages, but I think it is really great for older players as it solves their age related problem of loss of turn and rapid coordinated body movement.Bought a new set of clubs to celebrate my continued enjoyment of golf. Thanks. Ed Kosinski

That is fantastic, Ed!! I'm thrilled to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers (inclusive of Mr. Hogan, of course!). As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and - more importantly - your rekindled enthusiasm and enjoyment, and keep up the fabulous work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! Indeed, the swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. Tom, this is a great tip. I used to have an inside take away and swing around the body more flat than conventional and was making good progress but for the past year and a half my ball striking has been rubbish after going to lessons and having a straighter takeaway with the arms working up rather than around the body. I went back to feeling like I was swinging the club around my body low down, even with my irons, during my round the other day and I noticed a massive difference immediately feeling like I don’t have to early release and can put more power on with better contact. I may have an inside take away and swing more flat but the feeling of swinging around my body obviously helps my contact massively and swing more shallow as it’s the best I’ve struck the ball in years.

That's fantastic! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I appreciate your validating it by sharing your ball striking improvements! Here's the thing, though: This is not a "flat" swing. If we keep ourselves centered and allow the lead shoulder to work downward (the "tilt" component), then the arms will naturally elevate without the need for any independent lifting action. This will prevent the club from getting "stuck" too far behind us - as can happen with a shoulder turn that is too flat and/or if we snatch or roll the club to the inside with the hands - and instead we will have the lead arm in a great position to transition into an ideal downswing path. In fact, pay close attention while you watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Jake, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! Yes - This swing key also applies to the irons. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Great stuff, Tom. I am working on switching to this stack and tilt swing ... do you have a video where you talk about shaping the ball? I'm wondering how, with such an in-to-out bias in the swing path, you deal with situations where you have to fade/cut the ball. Thanks.

Thanks Erik, and I commend you on your very wise decision to adopt this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing! One excellent feature in this fantastic S&T system is that we can carve the ball either direction on-demand with just some minor setup adjustments. As an example, here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending the Stack & Tilt Instructor Camp together in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5TQfKucgd9se68 By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Hi Tom. You are now my go to golf consultant. I am on your waiting list for your private coaching. I am an 8 handicap and still looking for common sense nuggets to strive to hit most fairways and greens, and crispy iron shots. I just love your humor and stage appearance. Do you use oversized grips currently? I have seen in some of your previous post's that it appears you do. Any certain size/brand you recommend? Why do you use them also? Thanks. Off to the range to hit some bombs:)

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Thanks again for your message and bombs away!! 💪💪 Tom PS: Private coaching aside, have you enrolled in the online school yet? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

Tom’s golf teachings have helped me tremendously, I can say that I played some of my best golf this year. However, not sure how many are experiencing what I am experiencing, consistency just does not live on my street! I can shoot a great round one day, and the next, people would think, not bad for a guy who just started playing a year ago! At least for me great ball contact, is not always a thing. Maybe this is normal and my expectations are too high?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Considering that you started golf a year ago, you're doing great. Focus on perfecting contact with the ball and training that skill. It's the #1 fundamental. In the golf school there's a section on training contact. Keep working on that until you hit at least 8/10 crispy. Even the pros work on perfecting control of the low point in the swing. It's that important.

Great video and wonderful to see you going against the norm approach (high and straight back) as I feel like you say , stuck. But I notice you have more pressure on your lead leg is this the feel? I see your lead side doesn’t shift away. Is this like a stack and tilt pivot? Thanks all the way from Australia
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Adam! The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This Stack & Tilt system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. The Stack & Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). @SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
Hi Gerald, You address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with your weight balanced 50/50. Then simply bump your hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. We then gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion.
