Your tips are worth their weight in gold. I have been using this technique for three and a half years and the drives are much longer. Recently I was in a fligt with a strange golf instructor. I hit the first tee 30 yards longer than he did and he was a little embarrassed. But now he knows Saguto Golf too, LOL . Great job Tom, thank you!

Tom,your lessons saved me. I have played golf for over 60 years and generally had a handicap of 3 to 7. Shot my age at 74, but recently I was close to quitting as I had lost distance and any sense of consistent ball striking. I was a pretty good shift and lift swinger as my swing was admired by many. But with age , I lost turn and timing and suddenly I hit it fat or soft and right. I was so frustrated that I thought , now is the time to take up fishing. While browsing thru KZbin I saw your video on Hogan,and I realized that the greatest ball striker of all time, was close to being stack and tilt. So with your one video in mild ,I went to the range and lo and behold, solid contact was back. And the swing was so simple, and the shoulder and hip turn was back. The contact was so good that drives now carry 10 yds further and those dreaded doubles were gone. Now at 76,I can still play from the blue tees.I realize this swing works for all ages, but I think it is really great for older players as it solves their age related problem of loss of turn and rapid coordinated body movement.Bought a new set of clubs to celebrate my continued enjoyment of golf. Thanks. Ed Kosinski
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
That is fantastic, Ed!! I'm thrilled to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers (inclusive of Mr. Hogan, of course!). As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and - more importantly - your rekindled enthusiasm and enjoyment, and keep up the fabulous work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. This was a life changing video. After watching this I went to the range to try it. I was a little skeptical because nothing I’ve tried has done any good as far as hitting the driver. Watched probably hundreds of youtube videos and various instructors. After about 20 or 30 balls I was absolutely blown away by the distance increase and the feeling of having control of my swing. I was hitting balls 250yds or more with every swing which I rarely do anymore. Can’t wait to take this to my next league night and watch the look on the opposing team when I blast it out there.

@@SagutoGolf one more question. Do all golfers lose their swing from time to time? One day I seem to be stripping it. Then the next I can’t hit the ball?
@frankr5443 Жыл бұрын
The timing of this lesson was perfect for me! I had been struggling with inconsistent contact, a lot of pull hooks, and trouble feeling the top of my swing. I finally got around to taking a video of myself from behind a few days ago, and was shocked to see that I was pushing the club out away from my body, losing the connection between my arms and chest, and getting the club too high at the top. I went to the range yesterday with the simple thought of swinging the club back inside and maintaining connection, and immediately started hitting consistently solid, crispy shots. I was so thrilled that I went over to the adjacent Par 3 course and shot a personal best of 3 over par, with birdies on two of the first four holes! All of my tee shots were solid and were either on or close to the green, and the only thing that kept me from shooting even par is that my short game is lagging behind. I think I might be starting to love golf again! Thanks so much Tom.

I second this! Only thing I feel that is missing from the online courses 😅 weird inclines or lies, sand, thick rough, the whole bit and kaboodle - I dare say most of us didn't start with any real teachers and so have developed via experience and KZbin tips 😂
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Once you have the fundamentals of the swing down, you come to realize that they don't change. Different lies necessitate various setup adjustments and club selections, but once those are established we just make our swing. For example, with regard to hitting out of the rough: 1) Place some additional weight forward in setup. 2) Play the ball a bit further back in the stance. 3) Firm up your grip a bit (without adding tension). 4) Emphasize the tilt component to go along with that extra forward weight as you're going to need more of a descending blow to extract to ball. 4) The thicker the cabbage, the more loft you're going to need. 5) In heavy rough expect the grass to grab your clubface and close it, affecting both starting direction and curvature. Make necessary alignment adjustments to compensate for this. 6) Take only what the lie gives you. Sometimes that means just chipping it back into play. Don't go from trouble to trouble. Remember one of Dirty Harry's famous quotes: "A man's got to know his limitations..." TS

This was a really good video. I can't tell you how many golf instructors I have see teaching that Jim Furyk "loop" to try to get the downswing from the inside, I also find when I am too high I often over engage my wrist turn in both the back swing and the down swing .. and even with a very neutral grip it causes a massive over hook. A high back swing (like you said causing an over-the-top" movement) on the downswing causes me "fat" shots or the heel of the club digging because I'm steep. Your last few videos have been spot on for a ton of high handicap golfers on how they can improve very quickly.

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, Ritchie! Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness…. Thanks for your kind words and keep up the great work!! Loved the video Tom! Makes total sense, could you elaborate more on the setup too please, in particular the ball position? By the looks of it seems like you have the ball pretty much in the middle of the stance, not towards the heel of your left foot. Is that so ? Also, how far do you place the driver from the Ball position (wanted to know the low point of the swing) and how does it affect the Tee height of your ball. Have tried your technique, but it resulted in a low fade which means I was experiencing a bit out to in club path. I will try to move the ball further back in the stance, put my right foot back too to in my next session which should encourage a more in to out path but just wanted to know whats your take on this. Thanks, and absolutely love your videos .

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. From the face-on view the shaft would be an extension of your lead arm, with the hands positioned even with the inside of the lead thigh. Ball position varies from mid-stance for the short irons and incrementally notching forward as the clubs get longer, the farthest forward being the driver when the ball is positioned even with the inside of the lead heel. Hand position remains constant throughout the bag. Of course, these are stock ball positions and this system affords ample leeway for individual preferences. With regard to distance from the ball at setup, I would first suggest that the clubs be fitted so that they are the proper shaft length and lie angle for you. A well-fit iron should rest on the ground with the toe slightly up at address. Beyond that, these general setup keys should help: 1) We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. 2) The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. The proper setup posture should have the arms approximately underneath the chin with the irons - slightly more outward for the driver - with the butt of the club pointing somewhere between the top of your pants zipper to as high as your belt buckle from a down-the-line view. In other words, the longer the shaft of the club the further from the ball we will stand, but that should occur on its own by simply assuming the proper address position. From a face-on perspective, the hands should be even with the inside of the lead thigh. Looking down you should see the grip end of the club over the inner part of your lead ankle. 3) We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. 4) Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. While there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA

Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the fantastic work!! Tom PS: Apologies if I've shared this with you previously (I review hundreds of comments each day), I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results. I hope you'll give the school some thought!

Tom, this is a great tip. I used to have an inside take away and swing around the body more flat than conventional and was making good progress but for the past year and a half my ball striking has been rubbish after going to lessons and having a straighter takeaway with the arms working up rather than around the body. I went back to feeling like I was swinging the club around my body low down, even with my irons, during my round the other day and I noticed a massive difference immediately feeling like I don’t have to early release and can put more power on with better contact. I may have an inside take away and swing more flat but the feeling of swinging around my body obviously helps my contact massively and swing more shallow as it’s the best I’ve struck the ball in years.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
That's fantastic! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I appreciate your validating it by sharing your ball striking improvements! Here's the thing, though: This is not a "flat" swing. If we keep ourselves centered and allow the lead shoulder to work downward (the "tilt" component), then the arms will naturally elevate without the need for any independent lifting action. This will prevent the club from getting "stuck" too far behind us - as can happen with a shoulder turn that is too flat and/or if we snatch or roll the club to the inside with the hands - and instead we will have the lead arm in a great position to transition into an ideal downswing path. In fact, pay close attention while you watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work! Thanks all the way from the UK for your content Tom. Only been playing about 6 months, but parred or bettered half the holes I played the other day. Literally only been using weight forward for a couple of weeks and gaining a lot of confidence in my irons now. Tried incorporating the swing into my driver today, but struggled a fair bit to be honest after nailing the first one. Watched a few more of your videos just on driver and after some more pointers will take them to the nets when the miserable English weather allows. I think with driver you're constantly second guessing yourself if the last drive wasn't great and then you're changing things that didn't require changing. By the time you get to the next hole you end up trying something completely different and never have any consistency..... bringing those pesky variables come into play.

I had to shallow my driver backswing as I was coming out of a frozen shoulder. Works great. Good of you to emphasize where the hands should be in that motion, because like me, I suspect more people will be tempted to roll the forearms in getting the club low and around. Which would be a recipe for disaster :-)

I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! Indeed, the swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Thanks again for your message and bombs away!! 💪💪 Tom PS: Private coaching aside, have you enrolled in the online school yet? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses. Great video Tom. Id like to see you talk about how and when the wrists should hinge and when they should re-hinge in order to produce a low and around swing.
@SagutoGolf9 ай бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Michael! I simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom

Great video and wonderful to see you going against the norm approach (high and straight back) as I feel like you say , stuck. But I notice you have more pressure on your lead leg is this the feel? I see your lead side doesn’t shift away. Is this like a stack and tilt pivot? Thanks all the way from Australia
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Adam! The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This Stack & Tilt system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. The Stack & Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo. Because the shaft of the 7 iron is shorter the hands will appear to work more upwards, but there is still no independent lifting action. The only real difference in "feel" stems from the driver setup in which we push the hands out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed to accommodate the very lengthy shaft and also due to the fact that we are hitting a teed ball. Tom, first of all I love your golf lesson videos. I do have a question about this driver vid. You say to keep the arms and hands low on the takeaway, which of course promotes a draw so I assume to hit the fade we should raise the arms and hands and use the same elbow tuck swing? Tom’s golf teachings have helped me tremendously, I can say that I played some of my best golf this year. However, not sure how many are experiencing what I am experiencing, consistency just does not live on my street! I can shoot a great round one day, and the next, people would think, not bad for a guy who just started playing a year ago! At least for me great ball contact, is not always a thing. Maybe this is normal and my expectations are too high?
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Considering that you started golf a year ago, you're doing great. Focus on perfecting contact with the ball and training that skill. It's the #1 fundamental. In the golf school there's a section on training contact. Keep working on that until you hit at least 8/10 crispy. Even the pros work on perfecting control of the low point in the swing. It's that important.

Low and around had made the difference coupled with weigh on front leg and straight lead arm. Remarkable how my coach could never break it down that simply. Driver striking is my biggest weakness and already I’m squaring better. Still have a way to go w more consistency but I’ll get there now

Tom - Great stuff however how do you prevent from not getting stuck by taking it too far to the inside which this move can easily promote. The Pros are taking it back high with a shift to clear out space.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected snatch or roll to the inside (which can definitely get one "stuck") - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. In actuality, this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Pay close attention to any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Tom

That's OUTSTANDING, Kevin!! 💪💪 This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style. Thanks for sharing your dramatic improvement , keep up the great work, and yes - I think that 10 hcp is heading down in a big way! Another GREAT video, Tom 👍🏻 I’m definitely going to do this! But, I notice, when you stay connected, your left arm is very straight. 👏🏻 When I try to do that, I have trouble hinging my wrists at the top … flattening the left wrist. It’s as if the left elbow and wrist are connected. When I set my wrist at the top, inevitably my left elbow folds slightly (shortening my swing arc). Should I not even think about setting the wrists? 🤔 Would love your thoughts on keeping both the left arm straight and setting the wrists at the top of the swing. As always, keep up the good work 👊🏻 You’re the best!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Mike, and I appreciate your kind words!! Here are a few lessons on this topic: - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3evnmlte9NrZ68 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJerammqitNpotU - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ7Cg6eJfcd7bsU By the way, have you checked out my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” lately? Thanks Tom, still can’t figure out the weight forward deal 😮
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Gerald, You address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with your weight balanced 50/50. Then simply bump your hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward - generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs - while retaining the stacked relationship. We then gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom

@@SagutoGolf Must say this is the best tip I've ever had for the driver! I'm hitting at least 25 - 40 yards farther and with less dispersion. For someone who has been struggling with short drives forever (moreso these days due to being a senior player with a slower swing speed) this has made the game much more fun!
