actually on calm windless days that WOULD WORK! With a digitally steered parachute for the more fragile cargo....parachute gets returned for deposit of course ...would sure be faster than drones! Can see it now Amazon "gun crews" all day long loading outgoing packs, data operators entering targeting with automatically selects charge and barrel angle....fun job for example military artillery guys....also mobile Arty vehicle that fires em off going down the freeway whenever vehicle is withing range of Target customer, outpack is loaded aimed and fired

The range is so limited that the drone would only be able to carry very small packages a very short distance. This is because the batteries would have to be so big to get any distance that the drone's package carrying capacity would be anything under one or two pounds. Besides that, instead of completing any deliveries to customers they will be delivering me drone parts as I shot them out of the sky. Not to mention the package it was delivering.

Electric anything is not green technology. It takes electric power to charge and coal and hydrocarbons from oil to construct. Copper requires mining and fuel to purify and form in to the wire needed for the electric motor etc, etc etc!

this would be nice for people who go camping in deep in the woods and want something but have no address and do not want to walk hours out the woods then drive a nother hour to find the store is out of what they wanted. also nice for people who live way way off the grid or who are on a cruse and happen to be on a island for a short time.

However, since they are giving this drone-delivery-as-a-service it is totally useless. Awesome idea, does the drone have a parachute in case, it drops out of the sky due to an error of electric motor malfunction? To truly improve this design, encase the rotors then, you have the perfect drone. Safety is truly an issue with these drones.

People in comments mentioned wind, but how about big trees, power lines, tall buildings, rain, snow, thefts, shoot downs, etc? And fragile delivery items? Not to mention the delivery issues to millions of people who live and work in high rise or large buildings, especially in dense cities. It seems there would be a lot of ways and places where this wouldn't work very well even aside from airspace issues if these things ever became common, noise and privacy objections, a whole list of issues.

a lot of these drones have a live camera feed and GPS tracking. there's also a $1,000,000 fee and 2-strike felony charge for anyone attempting to steal them. (3 strikes = life sentence in most countries) so best to leave these alone.

Isn't it expensive and impractical to send packages 11 pounds at a time for one customer per one drone when a mail person can carry thousands of pounds of stuff in a truck and bring a bunch of people their stuff at once? You'd have to have hundreds or thousands of drones working all hours of the day and going back and forth all the time and charging in between and all that, and you'd have to keep replacing drones and have a lot of technicians work on all of the drones. I get that I can get the new star wars bluerays within 10 minutes of ordering by drone flight, but why not just survive the 3 days for normal shipping and save the money? And why pay probably double the money for a pizza delivery just to save maybe 10 minutes on the wait time for the delivery?
